Dear Erasmus Student,
This document carries important information that you will surely find
useful:
• accommodation request and application
form;
• travel information;
• Portuguese language course.
Before students send their application forms, it is required that your University send us a list with the names of the students selected to come to
UNIVERSIDADE DOS AÇORES within the ERASMUS programme. This list
must contain the following information:
• name and ERASMUS code of the sending institution
• full name of the student
• student’s e-mail address
• field of studies (if possible, please indicate the Erasmus area code specified in our bilateral agreement)
• period of stay (1st term, 2nd term, full academic year)

The deadline for the delivery of applications for the incoming students
is the following:
05th of June: for the first semester or the entire academic year,
30th of November: for the second semester.
You will find the necessary forms attached to the Application e-mail.
You should send a scanned copy, duly signed, by e-mail to [email protected].
The originals must be sent separately by post.
It will be very much appreciated if you send the required documents
as soon as possible in order to deal with your Erasmus process on
time and properly.

Universidade dos Açores and SATA International have agreed upon a reduced fare
for all the Erasmus students flying from Lisbon to Ponta Delgada and back to Lisbon.
In order to benefit from the terms of the agreement, you may follow some simple
procedures. Please pay attention to them:
A - You have to:
1. make your reservation directly at SATA, either through the call centre (707
227 282) or the e-mail: [email protected];
2. make your reservation for a two way ticket (Lisbon/Ponta Delgada/Lisbon);
3. contact Carla Costa (phone: +351 296 209 757 /fax: +351 296 672 098), so
that you can tell her your reservation code and set up all the details concerning
the issue of your plane ticket;
4. in the case you have any trouble getting your ticket for a reduced fare, you
always have the opportunity to be refunded by SATA at their office in Ponta Delgada, but only if you've got a two way ticket from SATA International.
B - You may not (in any circumstance):
1. get a plane ticket from another air company (for instance, TAP, which also flies
between Lisbon and Ponta Delgada), since the above mentioned agreement concerns only SATA;
2. make your reservation for a one way ticket (Lisbon/Ponta Delgada), because
the reduced fare applies exclusively to the two way ticket (Lisbon/Ponta Delgada/
Lisbon).
Please let us know the dates and time of your
arrival, as well as the flight number, because
the University of the Azores guarantees free
transportation from the airport to the place
where you will stay.

When to Arrive
The academic year of 2011/2012 will start in the middle of September. Students
who come to the Ponta Delgada Campus should arrive in the beginning of September (for the first semester) in order to deal with proper accommodation and to take
part in the intensive PLE.
The second semester should start in the beginning of February. The arrival should
be prior to this date.
Upon Arrival
Once in University campus, you have to present
yourself at the IRO and at the Academic Services Office
in order to submit information required for your stay at
our university.
We will arrange a first meeting between you and your
Erasmus Departmental Coordinator, who will help you
to deal with the proceedings concerning your registration, your quick integration in the University routine,
and to advise you on any possible adjustments to the
terms of your Learning Agreement.
Portuguese Language Course
The Erasmus students staying in the Ponta Delgada
campus, who want to learn Portuguese will need to fill
out the Enrolment Form for the Departamento de Línguas e Literaturas Modernas (Department of Modern
Languages and
Literatures), which is responsible for
coordinating and teaching three levels (elementary,
intermediate and advanced) of PLE (Portuguese as a
Foreign Language). This form should be sent to the IRO
with the rest of your documents.
