Immersion in Internal Medicine
Period: From 6 to 24 of July, 2015
Objective: Practical activities of internal medicine in hospitalization and
clinics, with care to patients and case discussion with a supervisor.
Target audience: Medicine undergraduate students.
Prerequisites: Having completed the basic semiology course in the home
institution.

HEALTH AT PUCRS
FAMED - School of Medicine
Prática Cirúrgica em Proctologia,
Urologia e Cirurgia Torácica.
The School of Medicine was created on September 10, 1969, at a meeting of
PUCRS’ University Board presided over by its president, Irmão José Otão.
The course was recognized by the Federal Government on February 12,
1976, through Decree 77135/76, published in the Federal Official Gazette.
The main characteristics of the School of Medicine include:
• Focus on promotion, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation,
comprehensive healthcare and humanization of care.
• Interdisciplinary modules involving medical practice.
• Residency with an exemption from services in the last four semesters of the
course.
• Specialization, Master’s and Doctoral courses that are among the best in the
country: the Master’s and Doctoral courses of the renowned Graduate
Programs in Medicine and Health Sciences and Pediatrics and Child Health
have enjoyed CAPES approval for around 15 years. The Programs’ objectives
are to:
• Train highly qualified professors and researchers to carry out teaching,
research and development in the fields of Medicine, Health Sciences,
Pediatrics and Child Health;
• Transfer the experience gained in basic and clinical research in a range of
subareas of human health to other university centers.

São Lucas University Hospital (HSL/PUCRS), which belongs to the Pontifical Catholic
University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), is one of the largest hospital complexes in
