• Bento De Jesus Caraça was
an influential Portuguese
mathematician, economist
and statistician.
• Caraça was born in Vila
Viçosa, in the south of
Portugal.
• Bento De Jesus Caraça was
always keen on learning
new things.

Published works
• In 1940 with other teachers
he created the mathematical
magazine “Gazeta”.
• In 1941 he created the
“Biblioteca Cosmos” to edit
scientific and cultural books; it
released 114 books, with a
global circulation of 793, 500
copies.
