RESUMO
Esta pesquisa foi iniciada a partir das diversas discussões sobre os cuidados com
idoso portador da Doença de Alzheimer (DA). A expectativa de vida média tem aumentado
significativamente nas últimas décadas, elevando a proporção de indivíduos idosos na
população. O processo de envelhecimento populacional acarreta um aumento significativo na
prevalência de doenças crônico-degenerativas. Dentre elas, destacam-se as demências, sendo
a mais comum a DA. A pessoa idosa acometida por alguma doença necessita, muitas vezes,
de alguém para auxiliá-la a desempenhar tarefas desde as rotineiras até atividades mais
complexas, como aquelas que dizem respeito ao andamento do seu tratamento de saúde.
Apesar dos esforços despendidos para garantir uma velhice cada vez mais ativa e saudável,
a maioria dos idosos experimenta alguma fragilidade nessa fase da vida, vindo a precisar de
ajuda de cuidadores. O objetivo desse estudo foi analisar as dificuldades enfrentadas pelo
cuidador de idosos portadores da DA, como também identificar o conhecimento dos
cuidadores dos idosos portadores da DA acerca dessa patologia. Esta é uma pesquisa
exploratório-descritiva, com abordagem quanti-qualitativa, desenvolvida com 20 cuidadores
de idosos portadores da DA, com questões objetivas e subjetivas a fim de obter informações
necessárias para a realização da mesma. Seguindo a proposta do Discurso do Sujeito Coletivo,
os dados foram coletados, transcritos e organizados em gráficos e tabelas para análise.
Analisando a realidade estudada, percebeu-se que a presença do cuidador é essencial na
vida do paciente, pois é ele quem irá ministrar os cuidados, desde promover sua higiene até
proporcionar uma companhia agradável. Portanto, conclui-se que o cuidador na vida do
idoso com diagnóstico de DA é peça fundamental na difícil tarefa de proporcionar um
envelhecimento mais saudável e com menor comprometimento funcional.

ABSTRACT
This research started from the diverse discussions on the cares with aged people
carrying the Alzheimer’s disgase (AD). The average life expectancy has increased
significantly in the last few decades, raising the ratio of aged individuals in the population.
The process of the population aging has been causing a significant increase of chronicdegenerative illnesses. Amongst them, we highlight the dementias, but the most common
is (DA). The elderly, victim of some illness, needs somebody to assist him to do tasks,
starting fron daily-coutine until more complex activities, particularly those under health
treatment. In spite of the expended efforts to guarantee an oldness each more active and
healthful time, the majority of the aged ones tries some fragility in this phase of the life,
need aid of caretakers. The objective of this study was to analyze the difficulties faced by the

caretaker of aged carriers of AD, as well as to identify the knowledge of the caretakers of the
aged carriers of AD. This is an exploratory-descriptive researeh, with quanti-qualitative
boarding. Accomplished 20 caretakers of aged carriers of DA, with objective and subjective
questions in order to get necessary information so as to reach the goal. Following the proposal
of the Speech of the Collective Citizen, the data were collected, transcribed and organized in
graphs and tables for analysis. Analyzing the studied reality we perceive that the presence of
the caretaker is essential in the life of the patient who will be giving self cares, since promoting
self hygiene until providing a pleasant company. Therefore, we conclude that the caretaker in
the life of the aged people with AD is crucial in the difficult task to provide a healthier aging,
with lesser functional commtment.
