REFERENCE MATERIALS
These are highly recommended
recommended for students to have and keep at home.
Dictionaries
One English language dictionary – A “junior" dictionary is recommended over a
collegiate level one; however, dictionaries that have the etymology of words can be very
helpful for students. One suggestion is Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary.
One Portuguese language dictionary – Mini Aurélio – Século XXI by Editora Positivo is
one suggestion for students in the Língua Pátria class. Another suggestion: Mini Houaiss
- Portuguese Dictionary. (According to the “Nova Ortografia”.)
One English/Portuguese - Portuguese/English dictionary – Strongly suggested for all
students, but required for students in Portuguese for Foreigners class.
Recommendation:
Recommendation Longman - Dicionário Escolar Inglês-Português/Português-Inglês
by Editora Longman or Michaelis - Dicionário Escolar Inglês-Português/PortuguêsInglês by Editora Melhoramentos are recommended.
For students in French – One French dictionary (French/English - English/French or
French/Portuguese - Portuguese/French) Larousse recommended.
For students in Spanish – One Spanish dictionary (Spanish/Portuguese Portuguese/Spanish or Spanish/English - English/Spanish) Michaelis recommended.
