Shot in a 8 days trip through the neighborhoods of Rio de Janeiro State, the film follows two sisters, Flora and “She”, in their never-ending journey in an apocalyptical but beautiful landscape, finding ways to survive making money with a show where “She” pretends to be transformed in a real monkey woman. The CREW of our film was formed by four members of the company - Felipe (director, writter), Marina (director, editor), Andrea Cappela (cinematographer) and Carolina Durão (producer, director assistent) - and some partners - Gustavo Bragança (Art Director) and Alberto Moura Junior (actor) wich work with Marina and Felipe since their first shortfilm released in 2003. Since it was created - in 2007 - DUAS MARIOLA FILMES has produced four shortfilms, two feature films and a lot cinema events and showcases in Brazil. In 2009, DM is also producing Felipe and Marina's second feature film (first in 35mm) awarded with the most important cultural brazilian support (by Petrobras), called THE JOY / A ALEGRIA. This film will also be produced in this cooperative and free willing process with a small budget and small crew. DIRECTORS` NOTE: Felipe Bragança & Marina Meliande THE SCAPE OF THE MONKEY WOMAN is a road musical melodrama about youth. Its also about our crew and our colletive passion for some kind of enthusiasm, joy and anger in a way cinema can be still a territory of magic. We needed to do it like this: as an small adventure, as a kind of risk and lovefull trip about our imaginary in a country and around a city (Rio de Janeiro) full of explosion and tension. This film is the first part of our trilogy film-scape of the usual methods of making films in Brazil, trying to find some kind of firefull beauty in the small crews, gestures and life of our friends, memories and music. This film is part of our research about what is it to be young in a time and planet full of melancholic ideals and prophetic ends of world. We want this film and our cinema to be itself a object of possible beauty that can have enthusiastic, reflexive and joyfull effects in the eyes that see it. We really have no more patience to the ideal of the contemporary cinema as a sad cronist of our times to fight against the stupid entertainment. We think art cinema can do more: can still create alternative and combative time and space as a magic trick… Or maybe die trying to do it.
