SIMPLE PAST
Nesta aula você irá aprender mais um tempo verbal do Inglês, o simple past.
Ao contrário do Português, em que há conjugações para serem lembradas, no Inglês
é usado somente um auxiliar (assim como no simple present). O auxiliar utilizado
no simple past é o did. Nas sentenças afirmativas, o simple past é formado com o
acréscimo do -ed no final do verbo. Existem algumas exceções, os verbos

irregulares. Quanto mais você ler e estiver familiarizado com os textos em Inglês,
mais fácil será. No final desta unidade apresentamos uma tabela com os verbos
irregulares.
Alguns pontos importantes sobre o simple past
O passado dos verbos regulares é formado pelo
acréscimo de -ed no final do verbo. Verbos terminados em e,
acrescenta-se somente o -d.
Exemplos
Work – worked
Talk – talked
Play – played
Dance – danced
O simple past é equivalente, em Português, ao nosso passado perfeito ou
imperfeito, sempre observando o contexto da frase.
Os verbos irregulares apresentam um comportamento diferenciado, eles não
apresentam uma regra quanto à formação do seu passado.

Nas sentenças interrogativas e negativas, o auxiliar será sempre o did. A
terceira pessoa do singular não tem, diferentemente do simple present, o acréscimo
de s.
Verbos do tipo CVC (verbos terminado em consoantevogal-consoante) dobram a última consoante.

Verbos terminados em C+Y (consoante + y), substitui-se o
y por i e acrescenta-se -ed.

Além dos verbos citados acima, também é importante salientar a formação do
passado do verbo to be. O verbo to be não possui auxiliar como os demais verbos
(did). Ele forma-se de acordo com a tabela abaixo.
