Scope and objectives
BEST-RICE-4-LIFE is a research project that aims to improve the competitiveness and
sustainability of the portuguese rice chain through:
 implementation of quickly and efficient methods for the germplasm selection for the
quality improvement in the national rice breeding program
 adopt best solutions for drying, storage and processing by correlating the quality data with
consumer preferences
 incentive the rice chain actors to participate in developing methods for quality assessment
by their involvement in the International Network for Quality Rice (INQR) and International
Standardization Committees (CEN TC338 and ISO-TC34-SC4)
