SOUTH AFRICAN EMBASSY: BRASÍLIA SOUTH AFRICAN CONSULATE-GENERAL: SÃO PAULO APPLICATION FOR A SOUTH AFRICAN RELATIVE’S PERMIT A foreigner, who is a member of the immediate family of a South African citizen or permanent resident, may be issued with a relative’s permit, provided that such citizen or permanent resident provides the prescribed financial assurance. The following documentation must be submitted when applying for this type of permit: 1. Prescribed form BI-1738 filled in with black ink. 2. One (1) photo sized 3.5X4.5 cm. 3. A valid passport with at least two (2) unused/blank visa pages. Obs.: Passport must be valid for at least thirty (30) more days after the intended return date from South Africa. 4. Valid long term of residence or permanent residence permit for Brazil (RNE) for non-Brazilian passport holders. 5. Where the applicant is the spouse of a citizen or permanent resident, he or she shall submit either: a) A certified/true copy of the original marriage certificate, sworn translated into English, in the case of a married applicant; or b) Proof of a permanent spousal relationship, in the case of so called life partners, including: i. The prescribed affidavit, which is available on request from our office; ii. Documentation proving cohabitation and the extent to which the related financial responsibilities are shared by the parties; iii. Proof of a legal divorce or the death of a spouse, in the event of a preceding marriage; and iv. In the case of a relationship concluded between two foreigners in a foreign country, official recognition thereof issued by the authorities of the relevant country; letter from a foreign or South African organ of state or from an established South African academic, cultural or business body, confirming the exceptional skills or qualifications of the applicant. 6. Statement and/or documentation confirming purpose and duration of the visit. 7. Proof of South African citizenship or permanent residence of relative in South Africa in the form of an identity document or passport. 8. International certificate of vaccination against yellow fever. 9. Police clearance certificate (criminal background check) from each country where the applicant has resided for twelve (12) months or longer since having attained the age of eighteen (18) years. Obs.: Sworn translation (into English) of the police clearance certificate is necessary if it is not in English. 10. Prescribed form BI-811 (medical certificate) which must be filled in, signed, dated and stamped by a professional and which shall not be older than six (6) months at the time of its submission. 11. Prescribed form BI-806 (radiological report) which must be filled in, signed, dated and stamped by a professional and which shall not be older than six (6) months at the time of its submission. Obs.: Radiological report shall not be required in respect of children under the age of twelve (12) years or pregnant women, in which case, a declaration (in English) from the professional can replace the radiological report. Payment of a repatriation fee in the amount of R$1.386,00 (one thousand, three hundred and eighty-six Reais) which shall be refunded to the applicant after his/her final departure from South Africa or after a South African permanent residence permit has been issued to the applicant. Obs.: This payment or R$1.386,00 is not required in the case of a spouse or dependent minor child of a South African citizen or permanent resident. 13. Proof of kinship between the applicant and the South African citizen or permanent resident, by submitting unabridged birth certificates. 14. The financial assurance, which shall be an amount of R5.000,00 (five thousand Rands) per person per month, to be proven by means of a salary advice or bank statement. Obs.: This financial assurance shall not be applicable where the applicant is a spouse or dependent minor child of a South African citizen or permanent resident. 15. Non-refundable application fee in the amount of R$188,00 (one hundred and eighty-eight Reais). Obs.: This fee of R$188,00 does not apply to a spouse or dependent minor child of a South African citizen or permanent resident. The payment can be made through an electronic bank transfer according with the area of application i.e. Embassy (Itaú Personnalité Bank) or Consulate (HSBC Bank). Furthermore, the repatriation deposit, if applicable, should be transferred separately from the application fee. 16. On condition that a complete application for a Relative’s Permit is submitted, the time required to process the application is MAXIMUM EIGHT (8) WEEKS.
