RUI VITORINO
Rui Vitorino is graduated in food biochemistry and got his Ph.D. in Biochemistry at the
University of Aveiro (Portugal). Following post-doctoral work, he held a position at the Aveiro
in 2008 as Auxiliary Researcher.
Research by Vitorino and coworkers is centered on the improvement, development and
application of proteomics technologies to biomedicine with major focus in salivary proteomics:
(i) basic salivary research aiming the identification and characterization of the salivary
components;
(ii) impact of pathophysiological conditions on salivary proteome for the identification of
biomarkers and/or therapeutic targets.
Rui Vitorino has published over 78 peer-reviewed papers in scientific journals, 5 book chapters
and 1 book. He is also interested in promoting proteomic research and education through
organization of workshops and training courses.
