For the third consecutive year, Fertilizantes Heringer participated in the Rally da
Safra (Harvest Rally) as a sponsor, as well as providing technicians that
accompanied the teams as they traveled throughout the various regions of the
country.
The Company considers it an honor to be able to take part in a project that is so
important to the Brazilian agribusiness sector, one that showcases how
Brazilian agriculture continues to make gains relative to the world market by
developing and utilizing new technologies designed to increase the quality and
yield of our crops.
Heringer has been helping Brazilian farmers by providing technology and quality
for 43 years.
Fertilizantes Heringer – “Proud to be Brazilian”
The results of the 2011 Rally da Safra are summarized below:
Brazilian harvest sets volume and productivity records
2011 Rally da Safra turns ups historic levels of production in practically all of
Brazil’s farming regions
According to the 2011 Rally da Safra (Harvest Rally), the principle private
survey of Brazilian corn and soybean production, the 2010/2011 harvest was
marked by the strong performance of the early-cycle soybean crop in the
Midwestern region, high productivity in the states of Paraná and Rio Grande do
Sul and the expectation of positive results in those of Maranhão, Piauí,
Tocantins and Bahia.
The results of the expedition, which came to an end Sunday, March 27, indicate
for the first time in the history of Brazilian agribusiness a record soybean yield of
better than 50 sack per hectare (in 2009/10, the rate was 49 sacks/hectare)
and very good profitability. The soybean crop totaled 72.7 million tons, versus
68.9 million the previous harvest. The corn crop yielded 34.8 million tons,
compared to 34 million tons in the previous harvest.
Paraná State provided the best numbers overall, with a yield of 54 sacks per
hectare, the highest soybean production yield in the country, according to André
Pessôa, the Rally’s general coordinator and director of Agroconsult, which put
on the expedition. Rio Grande do Sul State, which produced a yield of 46.3
sacks per hectare, is recording the highest productivity level in its history.
The harvest has not concluded in the region encompassing the states of
Maranhão, Piauí, and Tocantins (known as MAPITO) and Bahia. However,
excellent results are also expected, according to the assessment carried out
during the Rally. “The conditions seen in those four states left us feeling
optimistic, and we predict very high productivity levels,” Pessôa added.
The Rally did turn up a few negative points, including the excessive rains that
affected the mid- and late-cycle harvests of soybeans in the Midwestern region,
particularly in Mato Grosso do Sul State, and in the Southeastern region, in
Minas Gerais State. To a lesser extent, rain also affected efforts in southern and
western Mato Grosso State and in Goiás State.
“This will lead to two kinds of adjustments in the final estimate: one regarding
productivity, because in those states the rates were adjusted downward, and
another in terms of profitability, which also dropped due to the high proportion of
burnt grains that represent deep discounts to the price paid to producers.
Despite these adjustments to volume and product price, it is still a very
profitable harvest, among the most profitable on record,” the Rally’s general
coordinator said.
Transgenic Crops
The share of transgenic varieties in the harvest increased, according to the
assessments carried out by the Rally teams: the transgenics share of the
soybean crop rose from 72% in the 2009/10 harvest to 86% in 2010/11. In the
summer corn crop, the figure increased dramatically, from 45% to 83%.
Post-harvest losses, assessed for the first time by the expedition, averaged 4%,
equal to 2 sacks per hectare. Overall, throughout the entire country, 2.9 million
tons of soybeans were not adequately harvested.
Corn
Although planted area has not increased, the summer corn harvest was greater
than initially estimated and higher than that of last year, according to Rally
figures. The Southeastern region and western Bahia State stood out in terms of
productivity, with Paraná State expected to post a record yield of 131.4 sacks
per hectare.
Organization
Between January 31 and March 27, the expedition’s 10 teams traveled more
than 55 thousand kilometers and collected more than 1.4 thousand samples
from the primary soybean and corn production poles in the Federal District and
11 states: Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Paraná,
Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, Bahia, Tocantins, Piauí and Maranhão.
These states account for 97% and 70% of the cultivated areas for Brazil’s
soybean and corn crops, respectively. The efforts of the expedition’s teams
were documented on the www.rallydasafra.com.br website, on Facebook and
through the @RallySafra Twitter account.
Organized by Agroconsult, the most recent Rally da Safra marked the eighth
edition of the event sponsored by Vale, Banco do Brasil, Case IH, DVA, Mobil
Lubrificantes, Monsoy and Fertilizantes Heringer. Other Rally supporters
include FIESP, Toyota, Fundação Agrisus, ESALQ Log, Saci Soluções,
Agrosystem and Impar Consultoria no Agronegócio. In Mato Grosso State, the
Rally was supported by Aprosoja, and in Mato Grosso do Sul State, Famasul
supported the event.
