The volunteers
Activities
This is a Programme Countries EVS Project with sending partners from Italy, Spain, Lithuania and Slovenia,
involving 6 hosted volunteers in Portugal for 10 months. Intergenerational Volunteering – Empowering
People II Project aims to facilitate a better understanding of common European values, promoting social
inclusion, European culture and Active European citizenship. AEVA felt the need of having in the
organization young people from different nationalities to join the Portuguese team of intergenerational
volunteers, in order to promote an open culturalism mind set to the whole community of Aveiro.
The volunteers involved in this project, after some specific training, mainly work with SEN young
individuals, helping them in their daily routines and helping them achieving autonomy, organizing for
them, with the rest of the team, sport and leisure activities, promoting workshops, helping them in their
daily routines, in their learning processes, in becoming autonomous, etc. Apart from this, they are also
involved in bio-farming, interacting with SEN individuals.

Another important objective of this project is to involve the volunteers in visits to local schools of all levels
of education, universities, kindergartens, youth associations, etc, in order to share with the same, their
knowledge of respective country, their experience of doing volunteering service abroad, the benefits of
such experience, etc. They will also be involved in classes with teachers to promote intercultural
competences among the younger ones and whenever possible 'teaching' the basics of their own language.
This project provides practice based methods which enable the volunteers have hands -on experience.
Volunteers are mentored and supported i n their planning and executing of all activities, in the
development of cultural dialogue and intercultural skills. Adequate training is provided whenever needed.
Volunteers attend Portuguese Language lessons 3 hours a week.
They are also involved in the development of events, seminars, conferences, etc with th e purpose of
promoting the priorities of Communication of European Commission, such as Sustainable environment,
Active European Citizenship, job market and job search, youth in movement and youth employment, live
and work in Europe, etc.

At the end of the project, it is expected that the vol unteers and the whole community will benefit from
the intercultural learning and be cultural richer. Volunteers will be able to communicate in the hosting
country language, will have more competencies for team working, acquire sustainable environmental
skills and be most probably more inclusive people, accepting more easily the differences among people.
Tutors will be better prepared to monitor foreign volunteers, involving people of different ages and
background. This will motivate them to carry on promoting volunteering service. This will be achieved
through the elaboration and use of a “training course: sharing good practices ” involving the tutors from
the partner organizations. Volunteers will be more conscious of volunteer work value. They will be
encouraged to do more volunteering work in their own country and abroad.

Atividades
Trata-se de um projeto, com a duração de 10 meses, envolvendo 6 voluntárias oriundas de Itália, Espanha,
Lituânia e Eslovénia. Este projeto visa facilitar a compreensão dos valores europeus, promovendo a
inclusão social, a cultura europeia e a cidadania europeia activa. Pretende-se, ainda, a promoção do
multiculturalismo na comunidade Aveirense.
Os voluntários envolvidos neste projecto, depois de alguma formação específica, têm trabalhado
principalmente com jovens com necessidades educativas especiais, ajudando-os nas suas rotinas diárias,
promovendo a sua autonomia, ajudando-os no seu processo de aprendizagem, e organizando,
juntamente com a restante equipa, várias atividades desportivas e de lazer, workshops, etc. Para além
disto, estão também envolvidas em atividades relacionadas com a agricultura biológica, interagindo com
estes jovens.

Outro importante objetivo deste projeto é envolver as voluntárias em visitas a escolas locais e regionais,
de todos os níveis de ensino, universidades, creches, associações de jovens, etc, com o objetivo de
partilharem o conhecimento do respectivo país, a sua experiência de voluntariado no estrangeiro, os
benefícios de tal experiência, etc. Também participam, em par pedagógico, com os professores da escola,
promovendo competências interculturais entre os mais jovens e, sempre que possível, "ensinam", ao nív el
do básico, a sua própria língua e cultura. As voluntárias italianas, por sua vez, lecionam a sua língua
materna não só ao publico em geral interessado, da comunidade aveirense, como também preparam os
jovens que vão fazer a sua formação em contexto de trabalho em Itália, ao abrigo do programa Erasmus
+, ação chave 1, mobilidade de aprendizagem e formação.

As voluntárias são orientadas e apoiadas na planificação de todas as atividades e tem aulas de português
e de cultura portuguesa, 3 horas por semana .
Estão, também, envolvidoas na organização de eventos, seminários, conferências, etc., no âmbito do
Centro de Informação Europeia – Europe Direct de Aveiro, com a finalidade de promoverem as prioridades
da Comunicação da Comissão Europeia, e participam em a tividades relacionadas com o ambiente
sustentável, a cidadania europeia activa, o mercado de trabalho, a juventude em movimento, o emprego
jovem, viver e trabalhar na Europa, etc.

Tertúlia Europeia ´A UE no Mundo‘ – Federica Guida
No final do projeto, espera-se que as voluntárias e toda a comunidade beneficiem de toda esta
aprendizagem intercultural. As voluntárias serão capazes de comunicar em língua portuguesa, terão mais
competências ao nível do trabalho em equipa, terão adquirido competências ambientais sustentáveis e,
terão, obviamente adquirido competências ao nível da educação especial e inclusiva , aceitando mais
facilmente as diferenças entre as pessoas.
