A exposição dá uma idéia dos livros encontrados mais de 10 000 bibliotecas as quais emprestam livros anualmente públicas dos Estados em Unidos, um total superior a 450 milhões para leitura, consulta e de estudo. A indústria do livro, em suas modernas exigências técnicas e seu artesanato, tem aqui um dos pontos altos. O plano universal de lançamentos, dentro das especialidades — literatura, ciência, história —, não poderia dispor de representação mais completa a informar do nível atingido pelas artes gráficas no mundo. A contribuição norte-americana, neste particular, é realmente extraordinária. Essa contribuição, documentada na coleção exposta, se revela por um lado as exigências que conferem um sentido artístico ao livro, demonstra pelo outro um tipo especial de indústria. O cuidado que envolve a feitura, requerendo ordenação de acordo com a especialidade, prova que a aplicação do elemento gráfico é mais que uma técnica. A imposição artística, resultante daquela aplicação, confere ao livro um valor plástico.
