Athlete Eligibility ATHLETE ELIGIBILITY All athletes must comply with the provisions of the Olympic Charter currently in force and only those athletes who have complied with the Olympic Charter may participate in the Youth Olympic Games. To be eligible to participate in the Youth Olympic Games, athletes must have been born between 1 January 1996 and 31 December 1999. D. Qualification System QUALIFICATION PATHWAY For each qualifying event, the qualification places obtained for the Youth Olympic Games will be allocated to: Athletes NOCs NOCs with more than one qualified athlete have the authority to decide which athlete they will enter in the YOG. Athletes must have achieved their qualification position through the following official qualification competitions: 2013 UIPM YOG Qualification Competitions st Asia/Oceania: 2 first placed athletes from different NOCs from Asia and the 1 placed athlete from Oceania Africa 1st placed athlete Europe 3 first placed athletes from different NOCs Americas 2 first placed athletes from different NOCs ORIGINAL VERSION: ENGLISH JULY 2012 - PAGE 1/3 ND QUALIFICATION SYSTEM - 2 SUMMER YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES - NANJING 2014 UIPM 2014 World Youth A Championships, 14-18 May 2014 (Budapest, Hungary) 8 first placed athletes from different NOCs, not qualified previously Olympic Youth A Pentathlon World Ranking 4 first placed athletes from different NOCs from the ranking of 1 June 2014 and not already qualified from the YOG Qualification Competitions and the 2014 World Youth A Championships. Relay competition Teams will be composed of one male athlete and one female athlete from the Individual competitions. The team members will be decided by a draw following completion of the Individual competitions. HOST COUNTRY REPRESENTATION The host country will directly qualify one male and one female athlete to the YOG. UNIVERSALITY PLACES To be eligible to receive Universality Places, athletes must comply with the Eligibility criteria as defined under point C. of this document. Four Universality Places, two per gender, will be distributed by the YOG Tripartite Commission in collaboration with the UIPM, on condition that the technical level allows it. E. Confirmation process for quota places CONFIRMATION PROCESS FOR QUALIFICATION PLACES The UIPM shall confirm qualified athletes to NOCs immediately following each qualifying event and qualifying ranking. NOCs will then have up to two weeks from the day of the email/letter to confirm in writing to the UIPM and NYOGOC that they will use the obtained places. At the end of the qualifying period, by 12 June 2014, the UIPM will confirm to NOCs the list of qualified athletes. By 26 June 2014, NOCs will send the final confirmation of their selected athletes to the UIPM. CONFIRMATION PROCESS FOR HOST COUNTRY PLACES The Host Country must confirm the participation of the athletes by 1 June 2014. F. Reallocation of unused quota places REALLOCATION OF UNUSED QUALIFICATION PLACES 2013 UIPM YOG Qualification Competitions Any qualification places which are not taken up by the respective NOC will be reallocated to the next best ranked athlete/NOC of the respective continent not yet qualified. 2014 World Youth A Championships, 14-18 May 2014 (Budapest, Hungary) Any qualification places which are not taken up by the respective NOC will be reallocated to the next best ranked athlete/NOC not yet qualified. Olympic Youth A Pentathlon World Ranking Any qualification places which are not taken up by the respective NOC will be reallocated to the next best ranked athlete/NOC not yet qualified.
