This course is the output of a collaboration between the ENSP and Dr. Sharon Kleefield, lecturer at Harvard Medical School, on clinical quality, risk management and patient safety which are nowadays international and interdisciplinary critical topics in responsible healthcare delivery. Objectives This course will provide a practical and evidence based approach to designing quality system in healthcare organizations. More specifically, the participants of this course will be able to identify strategies for improving quality in their healthcare units or services and to assess and build capacity, using proven models for quality and performance measurement in healthcare units. Accreditation models will be discussed, including practical methods for assuring positive survey outcomes. PRESENTATION OF THE TEACHERS Sharon Kleefield, also the Director of Healthcare Quality at Harvard Medical International, is one of the recognized international experts on clinical quality, with a wide international experience, having worked with some of the best hospitals worldwide, including 8 years as Director of Clinical Quality at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. Paula Lobato de Faria, professor of Health Law and Biolaw has also a vast experience in legal and ethical strategies for implementing new instruments for improving the quality and safety of the healthcare delivery system, including health regulations, patient rights and professional liability. Fernando Leal da Costa is an oncologist and a professor of clinical governance and health management at the National School of Public Health, being also the health policy advisor for the President of the Republic.
