Seized by loyalty: the life and times of Baltazar Pereira do Lago (PL), in Mozambique (1765-1779) Luís Frederico Dias Antunes Centro de História – IICT The present study reviews Baltazar Pereira do Lago’s outstanding administrative way in the government of Mozambique, from 1765 to 1777. Reflecting on the structure that linked family and clientele relations and the economic interests held by the Governor PL and those of other royal officers in charge of the colony administration, allows us to understand the way how a small network of royal agents could ensure the presence of the Crown in East Africa and grant an attractive economical income for a second-range domain.
