PERSPECTIVES ON INNOVATION FROM THE BRAZILIAN BIODIVERSITY JOÃO LUIS CALLEGARI LOPES FACULDADE DE CIÊNCIAS FARMACÊUTICAS DE RIBEIRÃO PRETO - USP The high potential of the Brazilian biodiversity is well known and subject of discussion in scientific events in the last years. The perspectives of plants and chemical compounds from species of the tribe Vernonieae ( Asteraceae), specially Eremanthus and Lychnophora , the two most numerous genera of the tribe, subject of a chemical constituents and biological activities review recently published in Química Nova, will be discussed. Some terpenoids and flavonoids, whose occurrence is widespread in the family, could be examples of the innovation potential of the family.
