Ten new species of Discomycete are described: Belonopsis juncicola, Bulbomollisia striata, Crocicreas sellingensis,
fibrillosus, Hysterostegiella
Scutomollisia

alba, Pirottaea plantaginis,
Hymenoscyphus
Psilachnum striatum and
papillata.

Apothecia sessilia ad 2 0 0 um diam, disco flavo-fuscidulo. Receptaculum nigrum. Excipulum textura-globulosum, cellulis ad
10 um, hyalinis; extus cellulis nigris. Margo angustus, hyalinis,
cellulis 6 x 3 um. Asci ad 40 x 5 um, octospori, poro iodo adjuvente
caerulescente. Ascosporae
1 2 - 1 5 x 2-5-3 urn, tenuiter clavatae,
1-septatae. Paraphyses filiformes, parte inferior furcatae, apicem
2 - 3 um.

From below, the apothecia show a central, hyaline mollisioid
core 6 0 um diam within a narrow ring o f dark b r o w n cells
6 um diam. T h e hyaline excipulum cells terminate, at the
surface, in a r o w o f small clavate cells so dark in colour that
they are difficult to distinguish. T h e species is placed in
Belonopsis
rather than Niptera
in view o f the proposal
by
Dennis ( 1 9 7 2 ) that the latter genus b e restricted t o species of
submerged hosts.

Apothecia ad 1.25 mm diam, gregaria vel sparsa, e basis innatus
erumpentia, initio globosa, nigra, verticaliter striata dein plana.
Hymenium humectatum griseo-pallidum; margine hyalino, intacto.
Hymenium extus infra nigrum, supra pallidum, brunneo-rugulosum.
Excipulum textura-globulosum, cellulis ad 10 ym diam, marginum
versus in cellulis hyalinis, cylindraceis, ad 4 0 x 4 um terminatum.
Asci 4 5 - 5 0 x 7 - 8 um, octospori, poro minuto iodo adjuvante
caerulescente. Ascosporae 7-9 X 2 um, leniter clavatae, guttulis
minutis praeditae. Paraphyses filiformes.
interior o f the base is o f slender hyaline h y p h a e which pass
into the hypothecium. Around the base, the h o s t cells are filled
with a mass o f hyaline hyphae. T h e lower excipulum has an
outer layer o f very dark cells, the upper is hyaline
and
roughened b y small pale b r o w n cells projecting singly or in
short chains.

T h e innate base, t o 8 0 um high X 6 0 um diam, has a thin
wall, ca 1 2 um, o f minute b r o w n cells which, at the top o f the
base, gradually enlarge and pass into the excipulum;

T h e y e l l o w colour and the spores seem to characterize the
species. I have been unable to match it wth any species
described in Carpenter ( 1 9 8 1 ) .

basaliter 4 0 um crassum, textura-prismaticum, cellulis 1 2 - 1 5 pm, in
pilis flexuosis, ad 2 0 x 2 pm excurrentibus; margine versus
decrescunt. Margo e cellulis hyalinis, cylindraceis ad 20 x 2 um. Asci
ad 6 0 x 7 um octospori, poro iodo adjuvante caerulescente. Ascosporae
10 x 13 um, fusiformes, guttulae preditae. Paraphyses filiformes,
apicem ad 3 um incrassatae.

Structurally this species seems to be a Calycellina
but, these
being in general foliicolous, it is placed in Hymenoscyphus

adheres to the receptacle almost to the margin. Laterally the
excipulum is thin,

brown
rectangular cells; basally there is an inner layer o f hyaline
g l o b o s e cells but these s o o n fade out. T h e margin is much
swollen, t o 6 0 pm, and overhangs the h y m e n i u m ; the outer
part is o f dark brown cells, 1 0 x 2 pm, the inner o f similar
hyaline cells. T h e species seems well characterized b y this
margin and b y the minute spores.

Apothecia numerosa, ad 1 mm diam. rlymenium griseum, extus
pallide-brunneum, glabrum. Margine compactum. Excipulum texturaglobulosum. Asci ad 70 x 3 um, octospori, poro iodo adjuvante
caerulescente. Ascosporae 6—9 x 1 pm, tenuiter cylindracae. Paraphyses
filiformes.

T h e apothecia are sessile, h a v e a pale g r e y disc lacking any
conspicuous white margin. T h e r e is a central basal hyaline
core, 5 0 - 6 0 pm diam. T h e basal excipulum, 3 0 pm
gradually
thins
to
the
compact
margin.
The
thick,
species
is
characterized b y the long slender asci containing eight v e r y
slender rod-like spores.

pallida, supra nigro-setosa, infra nigro-punctata. Excipulum texturaglobulosa e cellulis 9 - 1 0 um diam, margine versus rectangularis,
hyalinis. Setae ad 6 0 um longae, e basi 2—4 um diam, sensim
attenuatae, fuscae. Asci ad 75 x 9 um, octospori, poro iodo adjuvante
caerulescente. Ascosporae 38—42 x 2-5—3'5 um, fusoideae, 3-septatae.

T h e material was seen only in the dry state. T h e densely
packed marginal setae are thin-walled, dark brown, m o s t l y
2 5 - 4 0 um long and aseptate but a few reach 6 0 um and are
1 - 3 - s e p t a t e ; all arise from rectangular, hyaline cells. T h e l o n g
spores, the thin-walled setae and its host distinguish it from
other species o f this markedly host-specific genus.

T h e translucent grey-fawn apothecia s h o w about
eight
narrow, vertical ridges o f densely packed hyaline, 2—3-septate
hairs markedly constricted at the septa, giving barrel-shaped
cells. T h e margin is fimbriate o f similar but slightly narrower
hairs and the terminal cell m o r e acute.
Collected on an unidentified herbaceous stem. Excipulum o f
slender hyphae, 2 - 3 um, lying at a l o w angle t o the surface
which is clothed with a w e b o f typical Mollisina hairs, curved,

praeditae. Paraphyses basale furcatae, septatae, apicem 4 - 6 um
incrassatae, ascos ad 15 pm superantes.

shield. T h e thin-walled excipular cells are pale b r o w n and the

surface is minutely rough with projecting subglobose, hyaline
cells. A narrow band o f dark h y p h a e separates the excipulum
from the inner flesh.
