Instruction of ZTE smart phone SD card upgrade
Ⅰ Before upgrade:
The software version and screenshots in this document are just for reference, users should use the
latest version in ZTE website to do software download, and SD card upgrade just only support
upgrading the same version of handset and low version to high version.
1)
Before using SD card to upgrade:
a) The users need to back-up the phonebook, SMS, and other user information of handset by
themselves;
b) Please check whether handset can be normally switched on and off, otherwise the handset
cannot download normally;
c) Please take out the handset SIM card, and check whether the size and name of image folder
that copied to SD card is conformity; and all the content of Download folder under SD card
directory will be reset and empty during SD card upgrading, so we recommend it’s better to use
one piece of empty SD card before upgrade, and copy the upgrading package to image upgrading
file. If SD card has had material already, please back-up the file under Download directory to
computer to avoid data missing.
d) Check whether handset power is enough (2cells more), please charge the handset if the
power is not enough until the power is enough. Do not do SD card upgrade while charging,
otherwise it may cause the data missing and hanging during downloading.
2) Please do not do other operations to handset during upgrading, it will cause download failure,升
and even switching on failure.
3）The SD card upgrade of smart phone will takes about 1.5-2 minutes, if the handset won’t
automatically restart or respond after 2 minutes, please try to upgrade again, if the device can’t be
switched on, please contact ZTE after-sales service center.
Ⅱ Operating steps:
a) Download upgrade package file, and copy the software to handset SD card.
Open the SD card upgrade package that corresponded with model from ZTE website,
check whether there is image.bin file:

b) Then copy the whole image folder to the root directory of SD card:

3. Open the “Filer” in handset and check whether Image file of SD card is normal, the detail
operation is : Click Filer-->sdcard-->image,

4. After confirmed the version can be inquired, hold the Home key of Z990 to return to main
interface, click “MENU-->Settings-->About phone-->System updates”,

5. Click “ System updates” to access “Storage card updates”:

6. Click “Storage card updates” to access the interface as below, confirm the software
version has been under the specific directory of SD card, then click OK, as following

7. After the prompt appeared (Picture1-10), click “OK” ,then handset will automatically
restart。
8. Handset will access SD card upgrading interface after restarted,

9. The handset will restart again after finished upgrading. And it can be normally used after
finished restart; meanwhile all the operation of SD card upgrading is completed.
