RENATA TASSINARI
Born 1958 in São Paulo, SP, Brazil.
Lives and works in São Paulo, SP. Brazil.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Graduated in visual arts from Armando Álvares Penteado Foundation (FAAP) in 1980. She also studied drawing and painting at the same time at
the studio of artists Carlos Alberto Fajardo and Dudi Maia Rosa. In the 80´s she produced prints with Brazilian Indian motifs for Arte Nativa
Aplicada - ANA. In the past six years the painting of Renata Tassinari has become a fertile field of research and innovation. The canvass, no
longer a neutral element, became part of the work. The artist paints on the acrylic surface, which is usually part of the work´s frame in a more
traditional approach. At the same time, she leaves the frame of certain areas of the canvass cover just a white sheet of paper. Where there
should be the transparency of the protecting acrylic of a sheet of drawing paper there is, instead, the painting. Conversely, where we see the
sheet of paper there is only the whiteness of the paper that transforms itself into color. From the onset, the above procedures have unfolded
into a series of works that would alternate the colors added to the acrylic and the framed whitness of the drawing sheets. In time, she began
considering parts of the canvass as things - other things could be elements of the work as well. Wood of different colors and grooves and the
inversion of the acrylic frame reverse has been her most recurring practice. Color has always been a crucial element in the artists´s works. To
apply color in a canvass and let the canvass inhabit the world with its colors would be a brief description of what Ms. Tassinari has been trying
to pursue. By considering parts of her work as worldly and palpable things as well, more intimate relations between the world and the canvass
emerge and a work/color/world trinomial becomes perceivable.
