ILYA AND EMILIA KABAKOV ILYA KABAKOV Born in Dnepropetrovsk, USSR, 1933 Between 1945 and 1951 he studied at the Art School in Moscow. From 1951 to 1957 he studied Graphic Design and Book Illustration at the VA Surikov Art Academy in Moscow, where he graduated in 1957. He worked in different children’s book publishing houses and never exhibited his work in the Soviet Union. In 1987 he received a grant in Austria and since then he lives and works in the West. EMILIA KABAKOV Born in Dnepropetrovsk, USSR, 1945 Between 1952 and 1959 she studied at the Moscow School of Music. From 1962 to 1966 she studied at the Dnepropetrovsk Music Conservatory, where she graduated in 1966. Between 1969 and 1972 she studied Spanish Language and Literature at Moscow University. In 1973 she migrated to Israel and from 1975 she works as curator and art adviser in New York. She works with Ilya since 1989. Ilya and Emilia Kabakov live and work in New York.
