Aims and Scope
The Nauplius publishes original articles based on research in any aspect of crustacean biology, including taxonomy,
phylogeny, morphology, paleontology, development, physiology, ecology, biogeography, bioenergetics, aquaculture, and
fishery biology. Review articles with bold proposals showing original conclusions or approaches are encouraged.
The manuscripts submitted to this journal must have not been submitted to another periodical. Reproduction of articles
published in the Nauplius is forbidden without previous written authorization by the Editorial Board of this periodical.
Instructions for the preparation of manuscripts are located on the inside cover. Manuscripts should be submitted to the
editor of Nauplius:

Content – The Nauplius publishes original research dealing with any aspect of crustacean biology. Papers will be in English only. For
Society members, the cost for 10 printed pages is paid by the Brazilian Crustacean Society, and any additional pages must be financed by
the authors unless otherwise agreed. Colors prints must be paid for by the authors. Authors other than the Society members must pay
full page charges. Short notes are accepted where they present information which cannot be incorporated into a longer paper and will be
subject to the full editorial process. They will not normally exceed one printed page in length and will contain only one figure or table.
Submission of manuscripts – Manuscripts should be submitted eletronically in MSWord to the Editor, Marcos Tavares, at
[email protected]. Alternatively manuscripts on diskettes or CDs may be sent to him by mail at Museu de Zoologia,
Universidade de São Paulo, Av. Nazareth 481, Ipiranga, 04263-000, São Paulo, SP, Brazil. All manuscripts must be complete, and all
components, text, tables, and figures, must be submitted in electronic format. Figures and tables will be printed directly from the
electronic files sent by authors and should therefore be of high quality (TIF, JPG, CDR, or XLS). Do not send original art work unless
requested. All communication about the manuscript will be by email.
Presentation – Requirements of taxonomic and nomenclatural procedures necessitate reasonable consistency in the organization of
such papers. Telegraphic style is mandatory for descriptions and diagnoses. Study of articles in recent numbers should be helpful in
determining style and format. The establishment of new taxa must conform to the requiremets of the latest edition of the International
Code of Zoological Nomenclature. Description of new species-group taxa must cite a type-specimen deposited in an institutional
collection. Italizice scientific names of genera and lower categories but make no other editorial indications.
The sequence should be: Title, full names of Author(s), Address(es) and email(s), Running Head, Abstract, Key words, Text,
Acknowledgements, References, Captions for Tables and Figures, Tables, Figures (each numbered and identified).
The running head should be of no more than 52 characters.
The abstract should be in English and should not exceed 250 words.
Key words: provide up to five indexing terms.
Tables and figures should be self-explanatory, not requiring reference to the text. Vertical rules and Roman numerals should be avoided.
All papers referred to in the text should be listed alphabetically by senior's authors surname under the heading "References". Use "in
press" only when formal acceptance has been granted. Thesis, dissertations, abstracts presented at meetings, and author of quoted
unpublished material (e.g., manuscripts under review, internal reports, and certain conference abstracts) should be cited only if strictly
necessary. Author of quoted unpublished material should be inserted in the text and designated as "unpublished data" or "personal
communication", but should be omitted from the reference list. In the body of the text use: Silva (2006), (Silva, 2006), (Silva and
Santos, 2006), (Silva, 2005; 2006; Santos, 2006), (Tab. 1), and (Fig. 1). Do not use "op. cit." and avoid using "apud". Name of
periodicals should be given in full. For further particulars consult the following examples:

Review – All manuscripts published in Nauplius are peer-reviewed for contents and presentation by two appropriate referees and editor.
Proofs – Authors will receive proofs by pdf attachments to email messages. Authors must correct and aprove proofs promptly in
accordance with instructions received with the proofs. If proofs are not returned promptly, the article may be held until the next number.
Reprints – The first author will receive 50 free offprints. In addition authors will receive, free of charge, a pdf version of the paper for
personal use.
