Environment license given for
Brazil’s giant Santo Antônio Hydro Plant project
Cemig, a listed company holding public service concessions, with securities traded
on the stock exchanges of São Paulo, New York and Madrid hereby reports – in
accordance with Article 12 of CVM Instruction 358 of 3 January 3, 2002 and its
commitment to best corporate governance practices – that on August 13, 2008 the
chairman of the Brazilian environmental authority IBAMA (Brazilian Institute for the
Environment and Renewable Natural Resources) signed the environmental
license for installation of the Santo Antônio Hydroelectric Plant, on the
Madeira river in Brazil’s remote state of Rondônia.
Obtaining of this authorization in record time is a fundamental step in meeting the
May 2012 target date for startup of the plant. The permission has been given
seven months ahead of the originally planned timetable.
