1994-96: M.Sc. candidate working on the thesis “Heavy metal contamination of the salt
evaporation ponds ecosystem in the Sado Estuary” under the supervision of Maria Helena
Costa, Centre for Ecological Modelling FCT/UNL/IMAR.
1996-99: Research collaborator of the Group of Terrestrial Ecology, FCT/UNL.
1999-03: Ph.D candidate working on the thesis “Pine processionary moth (Thaumetopoea
pityocampa) and Great Tit (Parus major) in Portugal: population dynamics and interactions”
under the supervision of Maria Rosa Paiva and Jan-Åke Nilsson, Group of Terrestrial
Ecology, FCT/UNL. The Ph.D programme included three month stays per year on the
Department of Animal Ecology, Lund University, Sweden.
