SIGERA aimed to connect agriculture and agroindustry with the environment sciences, and promoting scientific advancement in the main topics worked in this edition. The Symposium was held in San Pedro, Sao Paulo, Brazil, from 12 to 15 March 2013. It was organized by the Brazilian Society of Agricultural and Agroindustrial Waste Management – Sbera and co-organized by Embrapa Swine and Poultry, Agency for Agribusiness Technology of São Paulo State, Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture/USP, and Agricultural Research Institute of Chile/INIA-Remehue and Concepcion University/Center of Environmental Sciences Symposium had 22 oral presentations and 123 posters were displayed in poster sessions, allowing participants to exchange ideas and information. These presentations worked with the main topics: wastes treatment technologies, use of wastes as fertilizer, impacts of wastes in water and air-soil-plant systems, production of energy from wastes and waste management systems. During Sigera, Sbera and institutions reinforce its commitment to strengthening the role of science as an inducer of actions, policies and programs.
