Nesta edição da Agenda Municipal, começo por assinalar as comemorações do 23º. Aniversário da elevação de Loulé a cidade, no dia 1, Terça-Feira, altura
em que terá lugar igualmente a cerimónia de inauguração do Cine-Teatro Louletano, com um espectáculo do pianista Mário Laginha. Agora totalmente
renovado, este espaço cultural da cidade de Loulé
irá entretanto receber, no dia 18, pelas 21H30, o imperdível “Festival Al-Mutamid”.
O plano desportivo, em que se salientam normalmente as condições particularmente favoráveis do
nosso Concelho, teremos a 37ª. edição da Volta ao
Algarve em Bicicleta, que durante cinco dias, e à semelhança das anteriores, irá de novo trazer corredores de renome mundial e a emoção das duas rodas
às nossas estradas naquela que é, sem dúvida, uma
das modalidades mais acarinhadas entre nós.
No firme e permanente objectivo de proporcionar o
melhor aos nossos munícipes e a todos os que nos
visitam, estou certo de que estas sugestões irão
contribuir, em Fevereiro, para enriquecer os nossos
tempos de lazer e convívio.
In this edition of the Municipal Agenda, I start by emphasizing the celebration, on Tuesday February 1st, of
the 23rd Anniversary of the elevation of Loulé to the
category of city, on the same day that the Louletano
Cinema Theatre will be inaugurated with a performance
by pianist Mário Laginha. Completely renewed, this cultural space of the city of Loulé will host the unmissable
“Al-Mutamid Festival” on the 18th, at 9.30 pm.
Our sports plan, which emphasizes the particularly favourable conditions our County has to offer, refers the
37th edition of the Algarve Bicycle Tour that lasts five
days and like in the previous tours, it will bring, once
more, renowned racers and the thrill on two wheels to
our roads, in that which indisputably is one of our most
cherished sports modalities.
With the firm and continuing goal of offering the best
to our citizens and to all who visit us, I am certain that
these suggestions will contribute to enriching our leisure times and social activities in February.

Karsten Fuge é um artista fora do comum. Longe das modas e das correntes da vanguarda, persegue com perseverança, quase com obstinação o caminho por ele escolhido.
Numa época onde a arte está virada para os superlativos
e o gigantismo, continua a consagrar-se à arte da miniatura, aperfeiçoando-a de forma absoluta, extrema. Criou
o seu próprio universo de dimensões kafkeanas povoado
de seres e de animais insólitos, movendo-se em paisagens
fantásticas, projecções de um mundo onírico, lunar. Ordenados conforme regras estéticas rigorosas, a sua fauna e
flora transmitem uma sensação de serenidade e de confiança, onde transparece um certo desassossego subjacente. Nas suas obras a malícia está sempre presente. Aparece
por exemplo na escolha dos títulos, muitas vezes intraduzíveis porque baseados na brincadeira com palavras.
Nesta exposição Karsten Fuge apresenta fantásticas aguarelas, óleos e esculturas/objectos feitos dos mais diversos
elementos.
Karsten Fuge is an unusual artist. Steering clear of fashion and
vanguard currents, he pursues with an almost dogged perseverance the path that he has chosen. At a time when art is
looking to superlatives and gigantism, he still devotes himself to the art of miniatures, which he perfects to an absolute
degree, extreme even. He has created his own universe of Kafkian dimensions populated by extraordinary beings and animals that move around in fantastic landscapes, projections
of an Onyric, lunar world. Ranked according to strict aesthetic rules, his fauna and flora convey a feeling of serenity and
confidence, in which a certain underlying unrestfulness shines
through. Mischievousness is ever present in his works. This
shows in the choice of the titles, for instance, often untranslatable as they are based on puns.
In this exhibition Karsten Fuge presents fantastic aquarelles
and oil paintings, as well as sculptures/objects made with the
most wide-ranging elements.

Passados 30 anos de publicação do primeiro romance da
escritora Lídia Jorge, “O Dia dos Prodígios”, a Câmara Municipal de Loulé exibe a retrospectiva da carreira da escritora portuguesa, com uma exposição que apresenta a sua
obra completa, que reúne mais de quinze livros editados
em várias línguas, entre eles romances, antologias de contos e uma peça de teatro.
A Exposição “O Dia dos Prodígios. Lídia Jorge. 30 anos de
escrita publicada” integra quatro áreas principais. Numa
das áreas, dedicada às raízes da escritora, é feita uma alusão à escola de Cabeça de Águia, a sua ligação ao Algarve,
Boliqueime e ao barrocal algarvio, as memórias de infância e as suas primeiras leituras.
Nesta mostra há ainda espaços dedicados a conferências,
audiovisuais com entrevistas, leitura, com livros à disposição do visitante, uma área dedicada à escrita, onde o visitante é convidado a escrever algo sob o tema “Todos nós
somos escritores, estamos é esquecidos de como se escreve” e uma zona de serviços educativos e escrita criativa,
partindo de duas obras infantis da autora - “O grande gatão” e “O voo do pardal”
30 years after the publishing of Lidia Jorge’s first novel, “The
Day of the Prodigies”, the Loulé Municipal Council presents
a retrospective on the career of this Portuguese writer with
an exhibition featuring her complete works, which consist of
more than fifteen books edited in various languages, including novels, tales anthologies and a play.
The Exhibition “The Day of the Prodigies. Lidia Jorge. 30 years
of published writing “ combines four main areas. In one of the
areas, dedicated to the writer’s origins, an allusion is made
to the Cabeça de Águia School, to her connection to Algarve,
Boliqueime and to the rough hills of Algarve’s barrocal, to
memories of her childhood and to her first readings.
The exhibition also includes spaces dedicated to conferences,
audiovisuals with interviews, reading - with books available
to the visitor, an area dedicated to writing where the visitor
is encouraged to write something about the topic “We are all
writers, but the point is that we have forgotten how to write”,
as well as an area for educational services and creative writing
based on two of the writers children’s books: “The Big Cat” and
“The Flight of the Sparrow”

Esta obra marcante, da autoria do jornalista e escritor Neto Gomes, é uma referência para a História da Saúde em
Portugal e, particularmente, para a História do Hospital
de Faro, instituição prestigiada, com trinta anos de vida
ao serviço da comunidade.
Um livro que espelha uma vida de afectos e que, na opinião do autor, “mais não é que uma homenagem a homens
e mulheres que, de uma forma anónima, foram construindo o dia-a-dia da instituição”.
As palavras da Ministra da Saúde, Ana Jorge, do Presidente
do Conselho Directivo da Administração Regional de Saúde
do Algarve, Rui Lourenço, e da Presidente do Conselho de
Administração do Hospital de Faro, Ana Paula Gonçalves,
traduzem o reconhecimento do trabalho profissional do
Neto Gomes que, na sua obra, procura dar o seu contributo para a melhor compreensão dos trinta anos do Hospital,
marcados pelo humanismo dos seus profissionais nas mais
diversas áreas e pelo serviço prestado à região e ao país.
This striking work, written by journalist and writer Neto Gomes,
is a reference to the History of Health in Portugal, in particular to the History of the Faro Hospital, a prestigious institution
that has been serving the community for thirty years.
A book that reflects a life of affection and which, in the opinion of the author, “is a homage to all the men and women who,
anonymously, have built the daily life of the institution”.
The words of the Minister of Health, Ana Jorge, of the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Algarve Regional Health
Administration, Rui Lourenço, and of the Chairman of the
Board of the Faro Hospital, Ana Paula Gonçalves, express the
acknowledgement for Neto Gomes’s professional work; in his
book the author seeks to contribute to a better understanding
of the thirty years of the Hospital, marked by the humanism of
the people who work there, in the most varied areas, and by
the service rendered to the region and to the country.

um saltério, uma bíblia, um missal ou outro livro litúrgico.)
Nesta exposição podemos viajar no tempo e sentirmo-nos
monges copistas no seu labor quotidiano, artístico e penoso, como se entrássemos num filme e experimentássemos
a escrita, essa ferramenta do pensamento.)
(The Medieval Scriptorium aims to represent the manuscript
centre of any monastery or cathedral of the Middle Ages, in
Eastern Europe. Here one can admire the furniture, tools, materials and utensils necessary for the complex and demanding
task of reproducing a psalter, a bible, a missal or any other liturgical book.) At this exhibition you can travel through time
and feel as if you were a copyist monk in his daily arduous artistic toil, as if you were taking part in a movie and trying out
writing, the tool of thought.)

O Cine-Teatro Louletano recebe este ano a 11ª edição do
Festival de Música Al-Mutamid, um espectáculo que conjuga a dança e a música numa fusão árabe de movimentos.
Rasha nasceu em Cartum, capital do Sudão e apresenta
neste espectáculo além da música afro-árabe temas de
dança de rasgos puramente árabes acompanhados por
uma bailarina de dança oriental que nos transporta ao
longínquo oriente com os seus ritmos sensuais das cortes
de califas e sultões e que reflectem nas suas expressivas
danças todo um manancial de cor, exotismo e beleza, interpretadas com elegância e sensualidade.
Este espectáculo contará com:

WAFIR SHEIKELDIN: alaúde árabe, nay, acordeão e qraqueb
gnawa
OTMAN BENYAHYA: darbouka, riq e daff

The Louletano Cinema Theatre will host the 11th edition of the
Al-Mutamid Music Festival, a show that combines dancing and
music in an Arabic fusion of movements.
Rasha was born in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan and in this
show he will present, besides Afro-Arabic music, purely Arab
dancing flashes accompanied by a female oriental dancer who
will transport us to the far east with her sensual rhythms from
the courts of the caliphs and sultans, reflecting a well of colour, exotism and beauty in her expressive dancing, interpreted
with elegance and sensuality.

Este concerto no âmbito das comemorações do 30º aniversário da publicação de “O Dia dos Prodígios” de Lídia Jorge,
vai ser dividido em duas partes distintas.
Na primeira parte do espectáculo, e em estreia absoluta,
vai ser apresentado o conto musical inspirado numa das
obras infantis da escritora louletana, “Romance do Grande Gatão”, adaptado musicalmente por Sérgio Azevedo. “O
Romance do Grande Gatão” é, no fundo, uma história de
amor, a história de como o amor por um animal consegue
fazer transcender as diferenças raciais entre duas famílias
que descobrem, por baixo da cor da pele, dos costumes e
da geografia, a universalidade da igualdade humana.
Na segunda parte do concerto será apresentado o “Concerto para Violino e Orquestra em Mi Menor Op. 64”, do
compositor alemão Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847) e a
“Sinfonietta (Homenagem a Haydn), Op. 220”, do português Fernando Lopes-Graça (1906-1994).
Neste espectáculo, a Orquestra do Algarve conta com a
participação especial do solista (violino) André Pereira,
vencedor em 2010 do Prémio Jovens Músicos na Categoria de Violino – Nível Médio.
This concert, that is part of the commemoration of the 30th
anniversary of the publication of “The Day of the Prodigies” by
Lídia Jorge, will be split into two different parts.
In the first part of the show will be presented, in what is to be
an absolute first performance, a musical tale inspired in one
of the author from Loulé’s children’s books, “Romance of the
Big Cat, adapted by Sérgio Azevedo. “Romance of the Big Cat”
is a love story, a story about how the love for an animal helps
two families overcome their racial differences, as they discovered the universality of human equality under the colour of the
skin, of the ways and of geography.
“Concert for Violin and Orchestra in E Minor Op. 64”1809-1847)
by the German composer Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847) and
the “Sinfonietta (Homage to Hayden), Op. 220”, by the Portuguese composer Fernando Lopes-Graça (1906-1994) will be
presented in the second part of the concert.
For this show, the Algarve Orchestra will have the special participation of André Pereira, soloist (violin), winner of the 2010
Young Musician’s Award in the category Violin – medium level.

Aprendeu piano e guitarra na infância. A ideia de seguir a
carreira de pianista tomou forma quando ouviu Keith Jarrett. Estudou piano na escola de jazz “Louisiana”, em Cascais, dirigida por Luís Villas Boas, e depois na Academia de
Amadores de Música e no Conservatório.
Tocou primeiro em hotéis e como acompanhante de outros músicos; o primeiro trabalho profissional aconteceu
no teatro, na peça Baal, de Brecht, no Teatro da Trindade.
Mas a entrada a sério no mundo do jazz deu-se ao integrar
o quinteto da cantora Maria João, com o qual gravou dois
discos nos anos 1980: Quinteto Maria João (1983) e Cem
Caminhos (1985), com standards e alguns originais.
Ao mesmo tempo que tocava com Maria João, Mário Laginha criou o Sexteto de Jazz de Lisboa, com Carlos Martins,
Tomás Pimentel, Edgar Caramelo e os irmãos Pedro e Mário
Barreiros, com os quais gravou o LP Ao Encontro, de 1988.
Em 1987, com o apoio da Fundação Gulbenkian, estreou
o Decateto de Mário Laginha durante o festival Jazz em
Agosto; as composições e arranjos eram totalmente seus.
Nesse mesmo ano, foi considerado pela crítica o melhor
músico de Jazz português.
Mário Laginha learned to play the piano and the guitar as
a child. It was after hearing Keith Jarrett that he decided to
follow a career as a pianist. He studied piano at the “Louisiana” jazz school, in Cascais, under the direction of Luís Villas Boas, and later at the Amateurs’ Music Academy and at
the Conservatory.
In the beginning he performed at hotels, accompanying other musicians; his first professional work occurred in the theatre, with Brecht’s play, Baal, in Trindade Theatre. But his
real debut in the world of jazz happened when he became a
member of the singer, Maria João’s quintet, with whom he
recorded two records in 1980: Quinteto Maria João (1983)
and Cem Caminhos (1985), with both standards and a few
original songs.
At the same time that he was playing with Maria João, Mário
Laginha created the Lisbon Jazz Sextet, with Carlos Martins,
Tomás Pimentel, Edgar Caramelo and the brothers Pedro and
Mário Barreiros, with whom he recorded the LP Ao Encontro, in 1988.
In 1987, with the support of the Gulbenkian Foundation, he
debuted with the Decateto de Mário Laginha, during the August Jazz festival; the compositions and the arrangements
were all his. That same year he was considered the best Portuguese Jazz musician.

Câmara Municipal de Loulé, vão levar a efeito a campanha
“Doce do Amor” no âmbito das comemorações do Dia dos
Namorados a 14 de Fevereiro.
A partir do 05 de Fevereiro estarão disponíveis no comércio associado, os “Doces do Amor” que serão distribuídos
gratuitamente junto daqueles que realizarem compras para a sua namorada ou namorado no valor estipulado pelo comerciante.
O “Doce do Amor” é uma produção exclusiva para a CentroLoulé e terá depois de confeccionado ou uma mensagem
ou um prémio no seu interior.
Os prémios e as mensagens são alusivos ao Dia dos Namorados, podendo assim serem oferecidos ao respectivo
apaixonado/a.
In connection to Valentine’s Day on the 14th February, CentroLoulé will develop a campaign together with ACRAL and with
the support of Loulé City Council called “Love Sweets”.
As of the 5th February, the “Love Sweets” will be available in
the joining establishments and distributed as a free gift for
those who buy gifts for their sweetheart spending an amount
specified by the merchant.
The “Love Sweets” will be produced exclusively for CentroLoulé
and will contain either a message or a small prize.
Both the prize and the message will be allusive to Valentine’s
Day and may thus be offered as a gift to the purchaser’s sweetheart.

A Volta ao Algarve em Bicicleta já se tornou num ponto de
referência na área desportiva não só na região mas também no nosso país.
Hoje em dia a “Algarvia” ganhou de tal forma projecção
internacional, que a grande maioria das equipas de topo
mundiais fazem questão de participar na prova organizada pela Associação de Ciclismo do Algarve.
Alberto Contador vencedor do Tour de França e o último
a vencer no Algarve, não estará presente nesta edição
da prova, mas estarão outros de idêntico gabarito, desde sprinters, roladores e trepadores, vários são os profissionais que escolhem a Volta ao Algarve para iniciar a sua
época velocipédica numa prova por etapas.
O concelho de Loulé terá uma vez mais a etapa rainha com
a chegada ao alto do Malhão no dia 18.
The Tour of the Algarve has become a point of reference in
the field of sports, not only in the region but in the whole
country.
Today, the international projection of the “Algarvia” is such
that the majority of the world top teams find it important to
participate in this sports event organized by the Algarve Biking Club.
Alberto Contador, winner of the Tour de France and the last
racer to win in Algarve, shall not be present in this edition of
the event, but other professional racers of similar calibre, including sprinters, rouleurs and climbers, choose the Tour of the
Algarve stage race to initiate their bicycling season.
The race’s queen stage will once again be in Loulé County, with
the climb of the Malhão on the 18th.

Brondby e Odense, da Dinamarca, Elfsborg e Helsingborg,
da Suécia, são as quatro equipas que participam na primeira edição da “The Atlantic Cup”, nos dias 27, 28 e 31
de Janeiro e 3 de Fevereiro, que terá como palco o Estádio Algarve.
Este evento nasce de uma organização conjunta do ex-jogador benfiquista e internacional sueco, Stefan Schwarz,
e da Sporting Events Limited, com o apoio da Câmara Municipal de Loulé.
No derradeiro dia do torneio, 3 de Fevereiro, há uma jornada dupla, com os encontros Elfsborg-Odense, às 17h00,
e Helsingborg-Brondby, às 20h00. No final será apurado o
vencedor do torneio, seguindo-se a entrega dos troféus.
Segundo a organização, as excelentes condições de treino das equipas na região algarvia e a hospitalidade portuguesa são factores que poderão abrir caminho a que este
torneio volte a acontecer nos próximos anos.
Brøndby and Odense, from Denmark, Elfsborg and Helsingborg,
from Sweden, these are the four teams that will participate in
the first edition of the “The Atlantic Cup”, on the 27, 28 and 31
January and 3 February, staged on the Estádio Algarve.
This event is the result of the joint organization between
former Benfica and international Swedish player, Stefan
Schwarz, and Sporting Events Limited, with the support of
Loulé Municipal Council.
On the last day of the tournament, February 3, there will be a
double event: the game between Elfsborg and Odense at 5.00
pm and the game between Helsingborg and Brøndby at 8.00
pm. The winner of the tournament will be determined in the
end and the trophies handed to the champions.
According to the organisation, the excellent training conditions offered to the teams in the Algarve and the hospitality
of the Portuguese are factors that could pave the way for this
tournament to take place again in the coming years.

Há um outro Algarve por descobrir. Na Freguesia do Ameixial há lugares idílicos onde o homem vive em harmonia
com a natureza. É o caso do sítio de Revezes, junto à Ribeira do Vascãozinho.
Rodeado de azinheiras e sobreiros, com algumas amendoeiras que dão ao local uma rara beleza, Revezes fascina o
visitante. A maioria das casas está desabitada porque muitos habitantes da aldeia partiram para outras terras ou já
faleceram.
Os “resistentes” que ficaram são todos idosos. Manuel Joaquim de 71 anos nasceu na freguesia de Martinlongo,
concelho de Alcoutim, mas veio morar para Revezes aos
24 anos. Reformado, ligado à área da construção, gosta de
viver aqui pelo sossego do lugar e por estar familiarizado
com a vida do campo. Um papagaio cinzento é a sua grande companhia e mantém com ele “conversas” interessantes.
Nestas zonas do interior a generosidade das pessoas combina com a tranquilidade do ambiente e a paz que ele
transmite.

There is another Algarve that remains to be found. In the
Ameixial Parish there are idyllic places where man lives in harmony with nature. This is the case with Revezes, next to the
Vascãozinho Brook.
Surrounded by holm-oaks and cork-oaks as well as almond
trees that convey a rare beauty to the place, Revezes charms
the visitor. The majority of the houses are uninhabited because many of their former residents have either moved to
other places or have deceased.
The “resistant” who stayed behind are all elderly people.
Manuel Joaquim, 71 years old, was born in Martinlongo Parish, Alcoutim County, but moved to Revezes at the age of 24.
Retired from the building industry, he enjoys living here because of the quietness of the place and because he is familiar with country-life. He has a grey parrot for company, with
which he carries interesting “conversations”.
The generosity of the people in these inland areas matches the
quietness of the surroundings and the peace they convey.

Luís de Sousa Faísca nasceu a 25 de Agosto de 1884 em Loulé, e faleceu a 27 de Maio de 1965, em Faro, onde residia.
Filho de Manuel Martins de Sousa Faísca e de Maria das Dores de Sousa Faísca, casou a 28 de Dezembro de 1910 com
Genoveva Maria de Brito Farrajota.
Formado em Direito, exerceu a profissão de advogado. Governador Civil de Faro por três vezes, em 1921, 1921-22 e
1922, foi eleito deputado na legislatura de 1925, pelo círculo de Silves, nas listas do Partido Democrático.
Foi Presidente da Comissão Administrativa da Câmara Municipal de Loulé de 10 de Maio de 1911 a 10 de Fevereiro de 1912.
No seu mandato regista-se a preocupação com a alfabetização da população através da criação de escolas do ensino
primário. Regulamentou-se o descanso semanal por edital
de 18 de Agosto de 1911.
Considerado um dos maiores advogados do Algarve, com
uma sólida formação humanista aliada a uma vasta cultura jurídica, dedicou-se de forma exemplar à sua profissão,
sempre fiel aos princípios políticos que o nortearam desde a sua juventude.
Fez parte do grupo dos intransigentes quando das greves
académicas de 1908.

Luís de Sousa Faísca was born on the 25 of August 1884 in
Loulé and died in Faro, where he lived, on the 27 May 1965.
He was the son of Manuel Martins de Sousa Faísca and Maria
das Dores de Sousa Faísca; on the 28 December 1910 he married Genoveva Maria de Brito Farrajota.
He had a degree in law and worked as a lawyer. He was appointed Civil Governor of Faro three times, in 1921, 1921-22
and 1922 and he was elected MP in 1925 for the Silves constituency, on the list of the Democratic Party.
He was Chairman of the Administrative Commission of the City
Council of Loulé between 10 May 1911 and 10 February 1912.
During his mandate, because of his concern with the literacy of
the population, several primary schools were built and weekly
rest was regulated by edict dated 18 August 1911.
Considered one of the greatest lawyers of Algarve, with a solid humanistic background associated to a vast legal culture,
he dedicated himself to his profession in an exemplary manner, always faithful to the political principles that guided him
from the times of his youth.
During the 1908 academic strikes he was part of the intransigent group.

Em 12/03/1991 a autarquia decidiu recuperar o topónimo de lugar, cuja origem se deve à Ermida de Nossa Senhora do Pilar, situada nesta artéria, junto à antiga Porta
de Faro.
Numa planta de 1935 aparece esta artéria referenciada como Rua João Cabrita da Silva, uma vez que fica anexa ao
largo homónimo.
O perímetro amuralhado da urbe louletana possuía, na
Idade Média, oito portas: a Porta de Silves e a Porta Nova
junto ao rossio e Horta d’El-Rei, dando acesso aos percursos que se dirigiam a Quarteira, Albufeira e prolongavam
até Silves e Lagos; a Porta de Faro que dava acesso àquela
cidade e ao porto de Farrobilhas; a Porta da Vila, orientada para o caminho de Tavira; a nordeste, as Portas do Concelho e do Postigo; a Porta de Portugal, para quem vinha
de norte e a Porta da Traição.
Durante o séc. XVII em três portas do Castelo, as de Portugal, da Vila e de Faro, foram edificadas três ermidas, respectivamente a de N.ª S.ª da Conceição, N.ª S.ª do Carmo e
a de N.ª S.ª do Pilar.
On the 12/03/1991 the municipality decided to recover the
place toponymy, which origin is attributed to the Nossa Senhora do Pilar Hermitage, located in this passage, next to the
former Faro City Gate.
On a town plan from 1935, this passage is mentioned as
João Cabrita da Silva St., as it opens on to the homonymous
square.
The walled town perimeter of the Middle Ages had eight gates:
The Silves Gate and the Nova Gate, located next to the square
and to Horta d’El-Rei and which gave access to the roads leading to Quarteira and Albufeira that extended as far as Silves
and Lagos; the Faro Gate that gave access to the city with the
same name and to the Farrobilhas port; The Vila Gate, oriented
towards the road to Tavira; on the northeast side the Concelho Gate and the Postigo Gate; and the Portugal Gate for those
coming from north and the Traição Gate.
During the 17th Century three hermitages - N.ª S.ª da Conceição, N.ª S.ª do Carmo and N.ª S.ª do Pilar - were created in
three of the Castle Gates, namely the Portugal Gate, the Vila
Gate and the Faro Gate.

“No dia 2 do corrente caiu sobre esta região uma abundante
camada de neve. Começou a cair pelas 13 horas e levou assim sem cessar até às 22,30 horas, ficando árvores, telhados
e campos, totalmente cobertos por um manto deslumbrante
de alvura. A noite apesar de ser em altura de escuro, tornava-se clara, motivado ao tapete branco e espesso que tudo cobria.
A espessura na estrada e nas ruas era de 12 a 15 centímetros
e em outros lugares atingia 30 a 40 centímetros.
O aspecto era deslumbrante e encantador, jamais aqui onde
é raríssimo cair neve, pois a última vez que tal se verificou foi
em 13 de Janeiro de 1945.
A camioneta que fez a carreira entre Loulé e Benafim passando por aqui, a muito custo conseguiu completar a carreira.
A rapaziada durante todo o dia se entreteve a construir bonecos de neve, tendo esta levado bastantes dias a derreter.”
“On the 2 of this month a large amount of snow fell on this region. The snow began to fall around 1 p.m. and continued,
relentlessly, until 10.30 p.m., leaving trees, roofs and fields completely encased in a dazzling white shroud. Although it was the
dark time of the year, the night became clear owing to the thick,
white carpet that covered everything.
The layer of snow on the roads and streets was between 12 and
15 cm, while in some places the snow reached as much as 30
to 40 cm.
Everything looked dazzling and charming, here where it very
seldom snows, in fact the last time it snowed was on 13 January 1945.
The bus, which covers the route between Loulé and Benafim, had
great difficulty in completing the connection.
The children had a good time all day long, creating snowmen
that took several days to melt.”

Com o objectivo de divulgar o trabalho de valorização do
património religioso desenvolvido pela Autarquia de Loulé em colaboração com as Paróquias do concelho e a Santa
Casa da Misericórdia, no âmbito da conservação e restauro
de Arte Sacra, apresentamos este mês a imagem de Santa Margarida, pertencente à Igreja de Nossa Senhora da
Assunção, Alte.
Outrora orago de uma pequena ermida situada no sítio de
Santa Margarida, freguesia de Alte, esta imagem pode inserir-se na época barroca, pelas suas características formais e iconográficas.
Santa Margarida de Antioquia é também invocada na Europa Oriental como Santa Marina. Filha de um sacerdote
pagão e idólatra, foi educada por uma ama extremamente
católica e seguiu o caminho do cristianismo que a levou à
santidade. Julgada pelo “crime de ser cristã”, o martírio da
jovem Margarida foi terrível e o seu sofrimento tão grave
e tão profundo que a ele se acrescentam factos lendários:
visitada no cárcere por Satanás, em forma de um dragão
que a engoliu, conseguiu sair do seu ventre, firmando contra ele o crucifixo que trazia nas mãos. Acabou por morrer
decapitada no dia 20 de Julho de 290, com a idade de quinze anos. Santa Margarida é invocada pelas mulheres grávidas e pelas pessoas com problemas de estômago.
With the aim of divulgating the religious heritage valorisation that has been carried out by the Municipality of Loulé
in cooperation with the county parishes and with the charity organisation Santa Casa da Misericórdia within the
scope of the preservation and restoration of religious art,
this month we present an image of Saint Margaret that belongs to the Nossa Senhora da Assunção Church in Alte.
The former patron of a hermitage located in the locality of
Santa Margarida, in Alte parish, this image can be inferred to
the Baroque period owing to its formal and iconographical attributes.
Saint Margaret of Antioch is also invoked in Eastern Europe,
just as Saint Marina. The daughter of a pagan priest and idolater, she was raised by an extremely catholic nanny and followed the path of Christianity that led her to sainthood. Tried
for the “crime of being a Christian”, young Margaret’s martyrdom was appalling and her suffering so severe and profound
that legendary facts have been added to it: visited in prison by
Satan in the shape of a dragon that swallowed her, she managed to escape by pressing the crucifix she was holding in her
hands against the belly of the beast. In the end she was beheaded, at the age of fifteen, on the 20 July 290. Saint Margaret is invoked by pregnant women and by people with stomach
problems.

from our varied regional gastronomy extracted from the book
“Gastronomy of Loulé County” .

Ingredientes
1 kg de Amêijoas; 200 g de farinha de milho; 100g de toucinho fumado; 100g de chouriço; 100g de presunto; 1 dl de
vinho branco; sal q.b. e pimenta q.b.
Ingredients
1 kg clams; 200 g cornmeal; 100g smoked bacon; 100g smoked
pork sausage; 100g de smoked ham; 1 dl white wine; salt and
pepper to taste.
Preparação
Mergulham-se as carnes em água fria, 3 ou 4 horas antes
da sua confecção. Numa tigela lavam-se as amêijoas, de
preferência de tamanho médio, em água fria, a fim de as
libertar de impurezas que possam conter. Em seguida, cobrem-se com água do mar (ou salgada), deixam-se ficar
cerca de 4 a 5 horas. Corta-se o toucinho e o presunto em
tiras pequenas e o chouriço às rodelas, fritam-se numa frigideira, em lume brando. Retiram-se as amêijoas da água
e cozem-se num tacho cerca de 8 a 10 minutos, cobertas
de água. Escorre-se o líquido onde cozeram, tendo o cuidado de o passar por um passador fino. Tiram-se os miolos
das amêijoas e deitam-se num tacho, juntando-lhes o caldo da cozedura e o vinho leva-se ao lume, deixando ferver
um pouco. Peneira-se a farinha de milho com a ajuda duma peneira. Retira-se o tacho e, fora do lume, adiciona-se
a farinha para não grumar. Leva-se novamente ao lume e
deixa-se cozer, mexendo de vez em quando. Juntam-se as
carnes e serve-se bem quente.
Preparation
Soak the meat in cold water for 3 or 4 h hours before preparation. Wash the clams in cold water in a medium sized tin,
this will allow any impurities they may have to be expelled.
Leave them – covered - in seawater or salty water for about
4 - 5 hours. Cut the bacon and the ham in small strips and
the sausage in slices and fry them in a pan over low heat.
Place the shells in a boiler, cover them with water and cook
them for about 8 to 10 minutes. Reserve the water, in which
the shells were cooked and pass it through a sieve. Remove
the clam meat from the shells and return it to the boiler, add
the broth and the white wine, place it on the fire and bring
to a boil. Run the flour through a sieve. Remove the pot from
the heat and slowly add the cornmeal, stirring to make sure it
does not get lumpy. Return to the heat, stirring occasionally.
Add the meat and serve hot.
