A crescente importância econômica da atividade esportiva no Brasil e o potencial geográfico
para a prática esportiva no litoral cearense aparecem como uma alternativa viável para o
desenvolvimento local através do esporte. A relevante participação do turismo na economia
cearense proporciona ao Estado um interessante instrumento de distribuição de renda, já que o
efeito multiplicador do turismo afeta quase toda a economia. Uma das maneiras mais eficazes
de promover desenvolvimento local seria buscar desenvolver o que cada região possui de
melhor, aperfeiçoando as vantagens comparativas da localidade. A união do esporte com os
atrativos turísticos do litoral do Ceará atuaria como um indutor de investimentos, qualificando
o produto turístico local. O trabalho é realizado de maneira exploratória, haja vista que
existem poucos estudos sobre a relação entre economia e esporte. Os dados foram
pesquisados em fontes governamentais, sites especializados e em estudos acadêmicos. Com
base nas análises realizadas, conclui-se que a utilização do turismo esportivo como ferramenta
para o desenvolvimento, expande a economia da região arrecadando uma grande quantidade
de investimentos, distribuindo renda e melhorando a qualidade de vida da população.

ABSTRACT
To growing economical importance of the sporting activity in Brazil and the geographical
potential for the sporting practice in the coast from Ceará appear as a viable alternative for the
local development through the sport. The relevant participation of the tourism in the economy
from Ceará provides to the State an interesting instrument of distribution of income, since the
effect multiplier of the tourism almost affects all the economy. One in the most effective ways
of promoting local development would be to look for to develop what each area possesses of
best, improving the comparative advantages of the place. The union of the sport with the
tourist attractions of the coast of Ceará would act as an inductor of investments, qualifying the
local tourist product. The study is accomplished in an exploratory way, have seen that few
studies exist about the relationship between economy and sport. The data were researched in
government sources, specialized websites and in academic studies. With base in the
accomplished analyses, it is ended that the use of the sporting tourism as tool for the
development, expands the economy of the area collecting a great amount of investments,
distributing income and improving the quality of life of the population.
