The CIGALA (Concept for Ionospheric-Scintillation Mitigation for Professional GNSS in Latin
America) project, financed by the European Commission in the context of their FP7 program,
ended in February 2012. A network of 8 multi-GNSS stations with capability of monitoring the
ionosphere, especially scintillation, was installed in the Brazilian territory. This network
continues in operation, building up an important database that provides means of investigating
the occurrence and effects of ionospheric scintillation. In this presentation the project will be
described in detail, with emphasis on its main results, including mitigation of scintillation
effects on GNSS positioning, as well as insight on how this database can be accessed and used
for related research work.
