Ethos Institute’s 2009 International Conference
Sustainable Technology Showcase will present differentiated alternatives to be
sustainable in the cities
Coming from all over Brazil, technologies will be presented Jun 15-18 at Hotel
Transamérica
São Paulo, May 2009 – Alternative energies, removal of CFC from refrigerators,
differentiated methodology for PET bottles recycling, heat recovery and intelligent
lighting are just some of the innovations that will be shown at the 2009 International
Conference’s Sustainable Technology Showcase, to be held Jun 15-18 at Hotel
Transamérica, in São Paulo. Coming from all over the country, these social
entrepreneurs will now have the opportunity to exchange experiences and put forward
solutions that can be used anywhere.
NGO Sociedade do Sol, from São Paulo, presents solar energy used to generate comfort
and income to Brazilian families, with the possibility of heating the shower water in a
simpler and cheaper way. Also from São Paulo, Essencis Soluções Ambientais S.A. offers
a system that enables the removal of 99.5% of the CFC from polyurethane foams of
refrigeration systems.
The city of São Paulo also presents a technology developed with the support of CEFAC Associação Assistencial em Saúde e Educação, in partnership with hearing impaired
collaborators of the African NGO Godisa, which will enable the manufacturing and
production of hearing devices rechargeable through solar energy. Another technology,
Sensor ActiLume, developed by Philips, will allow 75% energy saving with a system that,
besides detecting motion to turn on the room lights, balances lighting according to the
amount of natural light in the room. A plug and play system makes it applicable to any
room.
From Minas Gerais, representing the R&D sector of CEMIG (Minas Gerais Power Utility)
in partnership with PUC-MG (Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais), comes the
heat recovery system for electric showers, which recovers residual heat of the shower
water for previous heating of the shower’s water inlet, which enables the reduction of
2,400 W in the shower’s energy consumption.
From Rio de Janeiro, after some negotiations in the United States and represented by
Coca-Cola Brazil, comes to the Showcase a technology that allows purification of PET
recycled material so that it can be reused by the food industry using less water and
energy than other PET production systems for the same purpose. Another advantage is
that even vegetable oil containers can be recycled by this procedure.
“The most interesting fact of all theses technologies is that there is a lot of innovation
and these solutions can contribute to eradicating a local, national and maybe even
world problem,” says João Gilberto Azevedo, member of the Showcase’s Trustees
Committee and Ethos Institute’s Executive Manager - Development and Advice.
The 2nd Sustainable Technology Showcase is a free event that runs parallel with the
Ethos Institute International Conference. The Sustainable Technology Showcase will be
