Muita animaçao na Barraquinha da Trivia Brasileira, organizada por
Karen e Emily Acher-Howard com a participação das “caipiras” do
CCBU, Adriana Sabino e Maria Inês Dal Borgo.
A Festa Junina já entrou para o calendário da escola Ada Merritt
K-8 e todas as classes, dos dois programas bilíngues participam na
animadíssima comemoração, que aconteceu dia 22 de maio.

The Brazilian Trivia’s booth, organized by Karen and Emily AcherHoward, was very lively and had the participation of CCBU’s
“caipiras” (hick girls), Adriana Sabino and Maria Inês Dal Borgo.
The Junina Party is already included in Ada Merritt’s calendar. The
whole school, classes of the two programs participated in the lively
celebration, that happened on May 22.

importantes.
Logo no início do mês, membros do
Conselho do CCBU, subiram ao palco do
Amaturo Theater em Fort Lauderdale para
receber o nono Brazilian International Press
Award, em nome de todos os associados
do Centro Cultural. Este troféu do “Pequeno
Jornaleiro” foi em reconhecimento do
Pavilhão Brasil-Minas Gerais na 25a. Feira
do Livro de Miami, como o melhor evento
cultural de 2008.

A barraquinha do CCBU na Festa Junina da escola Ada Merritt foi, novamente
este ano, um grande sucesso. Os alunos do programa de português se
aglomeraram na barraca para participar da Trivia do Brasil, respondendo a
perguntas sobre fatos históricos e geográficos brasileiros. A celebração desta
tradicional festa brasileira contou com a participação de toda a escola – alunos
dos programas de português e de espanhol. E demonstrou que o programa de
português, apoiado desde o seu início, pelo Centro Cultural, é reconhecido e
apreciado por toda a comunidade da escola Ada Merritt.
CCBU no Divã - BRAFF 2009
O CCBU apresentou a ótima comédia Divã, um dos filmes do 13o
Festival Brasileiro de Cinema. O Colony Theater estava cheio e o público
riu muito com a história de uma mulher nos seus quarenta anos que, por
curiosidade, inicia terapia e muda sua vida. Os atores Lilia Cabral e Cauã
Reymond participaram da sessão

CCBU In Therapy - BRAFF 2009
CCBU presented the excellent comedy In Therapy, one of the 13th.
BRAFF’s films. The Colony Theater was full and the public laughed a
lot with the story of a woman in her 40’s who out of curiosity begins
therapy and changes her life.

Encerramos o mês com a celebração do aniversário de 12 anos do Centro
Cultural, numa bela festa, no Restaurante Rusty Pelican, em Key Biscayne.
Durante a celebração, apresentamos uma mostra prévia do 13o Festival de
Cinema Brasileiro (5 a 13 de junho), e homenageamos parceiros importantes
do CCBU, entre estes, as duas primeiras bolsistas do Fundo de Bolsas
CCBU-ODEBRECHT-TAM, do Miami Dade College. A festa foi, também uma
oportunidade para relembrar, junto com nossos associados e amigos, fatos
relevantes da história do CCBU & fazer um balanço do ano que passou.

Na primeira semana de junho representei o Centro Cultural na reunião da Rede
de Brasileiros, uma reunião preparatória para o segundo encontro “Brasileiros
no Mundo”, organizada pela Secretaria de Comunidades Brasileiras no Exterior,
que acontecerá nos dias 27 e 28, no Palácio Itamaraty, no Rio de Janeiro, aberta
a todos os interessados nos assuntos de brasileiros que vivem no exterior. Na
reunião preparatória, convocada pelo Pastor Silair de Almeida, na Primeira Igreja
Batista da Flórida e um dos representantes dos brasileiros da América do Norte,
representantes de diversas entidades comunitárias, culturais e de negócios
propuseram temas para compor a agenda do encontro em agosto. Como
representante do CCBU, manterei os nossos associados informados sobre o
desenrolar dos preparativos para esta reunião.
Apesar das atuais dificuldades económicas, continuamos motivados a marcar
a presença brasileira nesta comunidade, e esperamos contar com o apoio e a
participação de nossos associados para atingir este objetivo.

May was marked by important celebrations.
At the beginning of the month, members of CCBU’s Board of Directors, were
on the Amaturo Theater’s stage, at the Broward Center for the Performing
Arts, to receive, on behalf of all Centro Cultural’s members, its ninth Brazilian
International Press Award. This new “Little Newspaper Boy”, was awarded in
recognition for the Brazil-Minas Gerais Pavilion at the 25th Miami Book Fair, as
the Best Cultural Event in 2008.
Once more, the CCBU’s booth at the Junina Party at Ada Merritt K-8 Center,
was a success. The Brazilian Trivia attracted many students of the Portuguese
Program, who had fun (and earned prizes), answering questions about Brazilian
historical and geographical facts. The whole school – students from the
Portuguese and Spanish programs, participated in this traditional Brazilian
festivity, demonstrating that, the Portuguese program, supported since its
inception by the Cultural Center, is recognized and appreciated by the entire
Ada Merritt’s community.
The month closed with the celebration of the Cultural Center’s 12th anniversary,
at a beautiful party, at Rusty Pelican Restaurant, in Key Biscayne. During the
evening we presented a preview of the 13th. Brazilian Film Festival (June 5 to 13),
and honored important CCBU’s partners, among them the two first recipients
of the CCBU-ODEBRECHT-TAM Scholarships, at the Miami Dade College. The
party was also an opportunity to remember, with our members and friends the
relevant events of the past year and of CCBU’s history.
On the first week of June, I represented the Cultural Center, at the Brazilians’
Network’s meeting, a meeting to prepare a list of items to be included in the
agenda of the big event “Brazilians in the World”, organized by the Department
of Brazilian Communities Abroad of the Ministry of Foreign Relations, that will
take place at the Itamaraty Palace, in Rio de Janeiro, on August 27 and 28. The
“Brazilians in the world” meeting is open to all interested in discussing the
matters regarding Brazilians living abroad. At the preparatory meeting, hosted
by Pastor Silair de Almeida, at the First Baptist Church of Florida, who is one of
the representatives of the North America Brazilians presented and discussed the
suggestions of items to be included in August’ s agenda.
Notwithstanding the challenging economic times, we at CCBU remain motivatet
to mark the Brazilian presence in this community and invite our members to join
in this effort, with their ideas and participation.

Na quinta-feira, 28 de maio, o Centro
Cultural Brasil-USA da Florida celebrou
seu aniversário de 12 anos, num
coquetel no restaurante Rusty Pelican,
em Key Biscayne.
O tema da noite foi a celebração da
magia do cinema e uma das atrações
da noite foi a mostra de trailers dos
filmes do 13o Festival de Cinema
Brasileiro (Junho 5-13).
Associados e amigos uniram-se ao
Presidente Honorário, Embaixador
Luiz Augusto de Araujo Castro, à
Presidente Adriana Sabino e membros
do Conselho, para relembrar
momentos importantes da história
do CCBU, homenagear parceiros
especiais do Centro, usufruindo da
maravilhosa vista e ambiente tropical
deste tradicional restaurante de Miami.

On Thursday, May 28, the Brazil-USA
Cultural Center celebrated its 12th
anniversary at a cocktail reception, at the
Rusty Pelican, in Key Biscayne.
The evening’s theme was a celebration
of the magic of movies and one of the
attractions was the preview of the films
featured in the upcoming 13th Brazilian
Film Festival (June 5-12).
Members and friends joined the Honorary
President, Ambassador Luiz Augusto de
Araujo Castro, Consul General of Brazil
in Miami; the President, Adriana Sabino
and Board Members, to remember
special moments of CCBU’s history, to
honor special partners, and to enjoy the
amazing view and tropical ambiance of
this traditional Miami spot. Several guests
followed the suggested dress code and
dressed as favorite movie characters,
adding a fun element to the party.
