PRESENTATION
Located in the city of Guimarães, whose historic
centre has been classified by UNESCO as World
Heritage, and forming part of the group of monuments known as the “Sacred Hill” is the impressive
Palace of the Dukes of Bragança. In 1959, it was
inaugurated as a National Palace and opened to the
public as a museum, exhibiting a collection of Decorative Arts from the 17th and 18th centuries.
Amongst the various collections, attention is drawn
to the group of tapestries from Pastrana, which represent a valuable testimony to the history of the
Portuguese Discoveries; the porcelains from the
Portuguese East India Company; the Portuguese
faience pieces; Flemish and French tapestries; weapons and armour; various paintings and furniture
from the post-Discoveries period
