VAURIEN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
NOTICE OF RACE
The Vaurien World Championship for boats of the class Vaurien will be held in Portugal, in the city
of Viana do Castelo, from 23 to 30 July, 2016.
The Organising Authority will be Clube de Vela de Viana do Castelo (CVVC) with the collaboration
of the Câmara Municipal de Viana do Castelo (Viana do Castelo City Council).
1. RULES
1.1. The regatta will be governed by:
(a) The rules as defined in the ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS).
(b) For the Vaurien Class, the two turns of RRS 44.2 are modified by one turn.
(c) No class rules are changed under RRS 87.
2. The prescriptions of the NA that apply will be posted on the official Notice Board.
2. ELIGIBILITY
2.1. Competitors must comply with the ISAF Regulation 19, Eligibility Code.
2.2. Competitors with Portuguese nationality or with legal residence in Portugal shall also
comply with the eligibility prescriptions of the Federação Portuguesa de Vela (Portuguese
Sailing Federation).
3. ADVERTISING
3.1. In accordance with ISAF Regulation 20, boats shall display at all times a sticker with the
event sponsor advertising provided by the Organising Authority.
4. CLASSES TO COMPETE
4.1. The regatta is open to all boats of the Vaurien class, selected by their National Class
Association to compete in the World Championship as provided in the Vaurien Worlds
Championship rules.

6. ENTRIES
6.1. The Organising Authority establishes a minimum of 60 boats entered in the Vaurien class
and 120 for the celebration of the event.
6.2. The entry form must be sent to Clube de Vela de Viana do Castelo before 23rd June 2016,
24:00 UTC+2:00.

7. ENTRY FEES
7.1. The entry fee is 150€ per boat.
A cheque made out to CVVC or a copy of the bank transfer document (clearly indicating the
boats it belongs to) to the account indicated below must be sent before the entry deadline.

7.2. Entry fees will not be refunded.
7.3. The Organising Authority reserves the right to accept entries after the established deadline.
These entries may have to pay a more 100% entry fee.
8. COMPETITORS REGISTRATION
8.1
Each competitor must sign personally the Registration Form at the Race Office before
12:00 on 24th July 2016.
8.2. Registration is subject to the presentation of the following documents:
a) Sailor Federation licences.
b) A valid passport or ID-card for each person on board with a picture of the person, the
name, the gender and the date of birth.
c) Third party liability insurance policy covering a minimum amount of 1.500.000,00€ per
event of equivalent.
8.3. Documents and sailing instructions can be collected from 13 hours, on the previous day of the
first race scheduled, from the Race Office after fulfilling the requirements mentioned above.

9.2. Competition format:
The competition format and will consist of a series of 15 schedule races and will be described
in the Sailing Instructions.
9.3. A minimum of 4 races must have been completed to validate the event.
9.4. The courses to be sailed will be Triangle Courses.
9.5. The target time for each race is 1 hour.
9.6. The sailing instructions will be available at the registration.
10. SCORING
10.1.RRS Appendix A, Scoring, will apply.
10.2.One race is required to constitute the event and award the prices.
10.3.Four races are required to be completed to constitute a World Championship series and
award the title World Champion.
10.4.For the junior ranking, a separate series score will be made for the Junior fleet only based on
the finishing places of Junior boats in the World Championship.
10.5.For the feminine ranking, a separate series score will be made for the Feminine fleet only
based on the finishing places of Feminine boats in the World Championship.
10.6.For the master ranking, a separate series score will be made for the Feminine fleet only based
on the finishing places of Feminine boats in the World Championship.
11. INTERNATIONAL JURY
An International Jury will be proposed and appointed by the Organising Authority in
accordance with RRS 91. The decisions of the International Jury shall be final in accordance
with RRS 70.5.
12. MEASUREMENT and INSPECTION
12.1.Each boat shall produce a valid measurement certificate.
12.2.All boats will be checked for compliance with the Class Rules.
Boats, sails, rigging and crews must be at the disposal of the Measurers at their respective
parking from 9:00 hours on 23rd July to 12:00 hours on 24th July 2016.
12.3.Measurements will take place scheduled equipment inspection committee. Upon arrival,
latest 24 July, 2016, 12:00, a representative of the boat should contact the Regatta Ofice to
get the time and place of the inspection. At the assigned time the boat, sails, spars, foilings
and rigging should be represented in dry state for inspection.
12.4.The following identification signals, on both sides of the main sail, will be checked:
a) Junior: black circle of 250 mm diameter on the top part of the main sail.
b) Female: red rhombus of 250x400mm diameter on the top part of the main sail.

c) Master: blue or black equilateral triangle of 250mm side (pyramid position) on the top part
of the main sail.
12.5 Any boat or equipment may be re-inspected the event.
13. BERTHING
13.1. Boats shall be kept in the assigned places in the boat park.
14. RADIO COMMUNICATION
14.1. Except in an emergency or using equipment provided by the Organising Authority, a boat
that racing shall not make voice or data transmissions and shall not receive voice or data
communication that is not available to all boats.
15. TITLE AND PRIZES
The responsible person of the winning boat of the championship acquires the title “World
Champion Vaurien Class 2016”.
16. OFFICIAL LANGUAGE
The official language of the regatta will be English. In case of discrepancy, the original text of
the RRS and the Class Rules will prevail. For this Notice of Race, the Sailing Instructions text
will prevail.
17. LIABILITY
All those participating in this regatta do so under their own risk and responsibility.
The Organising Authority or any person or body involved in the organisation of the event
rejects any responsibility whatsoever for any losses, damages, injuries or inconveniences
that may occur to persons or things, both ashore and afloat, as a consequence of the
participation in the races covered by this notice of race.
Attention is drawn to Fundamental Rule 4, Decision to Race, RRS Part 1 which establishes:
"The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers
alone”.
