Brotherly Love and Companionship
Among Masonic Bodies.
Unlike other places, Freemasonry in Santa Catarina, despite some moments of turbulence
created by issues of national interest, always lived in a brotherly and harmonious way among
the three regular Masonic Bodies..
This harmonious and brotherly way of living together, in a very particular way created
a masonry territory sharing, which can be confirmed through history under several events
that were organized and treaties that were signed, etc., as well as by the daily routine of the
subordinated Lodges which, in a great number, use the same Temples and have their sessions
together.
The history of the Grand Orient of Santa Catarina (GOSC), The Most Worshipful Grand
Lodge of Santa Catarina ( MWGLSC) and the Grand Orient of Brazil – Santa Catarina ( GOBSC), are intimately connected, what created, through the years, this brotherhood living and this
territory sharing.
The Origin of Masonic Bodies in Santa Catarina
The Grand Orient of Santa Catarina – GOSC, become unaffiliated of GOB – Grand Orient
of Brazil, in 1973, originates directly from the Special Delegation which represents the GOB
in our State. Accordingly to some authors, in the beginning of the 1900’s there was already
a Special Delegation of the Grand Master of the Order in the State of Santa Catarina. Some
prominent Freemasons were nominated “Deputy of the Grand Master”, for example, Nereu de
Oliveira Ramos, who in May of 1925 was appointed to the position by the act nº7 of the General
Grand Master.
The official opening of GOSC was on April, 12th, 1950, with the presence of Freemasons
of several lodges from the States of Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, São Paulo, Rio
de Janeiro and Minas Gerais; Grand Masters of Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, São Paulo and from
Bahia; representative committee of the Grand Orient of Brazil and also, the Sovereign General
Grand Master of the Grand Orient of Brazil
The creation of The Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Santa Catarina – MWGLSC, takes
us to the foundation of the “DEUTSCH FREUNDSCHAFT” Lodge (German Friendship), in
the beginning of 1855, by German and Switzerland immigrants. In 1856, members from this
first lodge founded the “ZUM SÜDLICHEN KREUZE” (To the Southern Cross), both in the
East of Joinville. In 1859 there was an amalgament of these two Lodges and they adopted the
title of “AMIZADE AO CRUZEIRO DO SUL”. These Lodges had been affiliated to the Grand
Lodge of Hamburg – Germany; Grand Orient of Brazil and Grand Lodge of Rio Grande do Sul
through the years. This Lodge, together with Freemasons of the Lodges “Acácia Itajaiense”,
“President Roosevelt”, “14 de Julho”, “Cruzeiro do Sul” and “Fraternidade Blumenauense”,
participated in the foundation of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Santa Catarina, on April,
21st, 1956, in an act presided by Br. Fernando Vieiro, who was the Grand Master of the Grand
Lodge of Rio Grande do Sul, in a session held in the temple of the Lodge “14 de Julho”, in
Florianópolis/SC.

After the problems in the elections for General Grand Master of GOB, in the year of
1973, the Grand Orient of Santa Catarina, along with other State Grand Orients from nine
States, disengaged from “Central Power”, organizing the so called “Grand Masters College of
Brazilian Masonry”. After that, The Grand Orient of Brazil was represented in Santa Catarina
by a Delegation under the act nº 3.598, of August, 20th, 1973, with Br. Francisco Antônio
Evangelista appointed to the place of Special Deputy. In April 5th, 1979, under the Decree
nº 2.637, the reinstallation of the Grand Orient of Santa Catarina’s State was authorized, and
Br. Rubens Vitor da Silva was appointed State Grand Master. In December, 3rd, 2005, the
State Freemason Assembly approved a constitutional amendment changing the denomination
to Grand Orient of Brazil – Santa Catarina (GOB-SC).
Because of the problems with the elections and the creation of the Grand Masters College
of Brazilian Masonry, a meeting of the Powerful Assembly of GOSC was held on May, 29th,
1973. As a result from this meeting there was the enacting of a new Constitution for the Grand
Orient of Santa Catarina, declaring it an “autonomous, independent, sovereign, symbolic, legal,
regular, legitimate Masonic Body, with no subordination to the Grand Orient of Brazil or to any
other Masonic Body”. To inform the Orient, the following proclamation was published in the
Monthly Newsletter:

Ten State Grand Orients – Rio Grande do Sul, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Santa Catarina, Mato
Grosso, Rio de Janeiro, Distrito Federal, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte and São Paulo exhausted all
resources in order to keep their relations with the Grand Orient of Brazil.
Now, in the meeting of the Sovereign Congregation, on May, 27th, 1973, E\V\ The General
Grand Master convened the State Grand Masters not to masonry host and understanding, but to go
further with the attitudes of confrontations and abuse, which are unworthy of being received.
Given the impossibility of being more compromise than were the attitudes of the EEm\
Grand Masters, without fatal losses for the harmony, concept and masonry prestige, they decided
to break relations with the Grand Orient of Brazil, in order not to remain under prestige an anti-masonry administration, which reached the maximum of arrogance, outraged and arbitrariness.
Therefore, the ten Grand Orients above, broke relations irreversibly with the Grand Orient of
Brazil, fact accomplished since last May, 27th.
The reformulation of the masonry organization in the States has already started, as also did
the Grand Orient of Santa Catarina, here under the standards given by the Masonry Legislative State
Assembly, in meetings held on May 28th and 29th.
Our work and all our senses develop now, with greater warmth and cheer, in order to lead
again the Sublime Order in the trail of the universal masonry principles. There is also the urgent need
to give the Nation our anonymous contribution to its progress and development, and for this we rely
in the effort of all our Brother Masons.

Other decrees and important acts were published this same day, May 29th, all of them
related to the new directions of the Grand Orient of Santa Catarina. Maybe the most important of
them all was the decree nº 03/73 which, in its first article, determined that “the Grand Orient of
Santa Catarina will no more accept any determination of the Grand Orient of Brazil, especially
the ones after May, 29th, 1973 E\V\”.
DECREE Nº 03/73
The Em\ Grand Master, Br. MIGUEL CHRISTAKIS, making use of the attributions of art.
42, item 2, of the Constitution of the Grand Orient of Santa Catarina, Powerful State Congregation,
in the meeting of May 29th, 1973 E\ V\
DECREES
1st Art. - The Grand Orient of Santa Catarina will no more accept any determination of the
Grand Orient of Brazil, especially the ones after May, 29th, 1973 (E\V\).
2nd Art. - Until further notice, any contributions or gatherings of any nature or kind for the
Grand Orient of Brazil are suspended.
3rd Art. - The contributions to the Grand Orient of Santa Catarina that for any reason are
improperly collected to the Grand Orient of Brazil will remain a responsibility of the payer who
shall pay the debt within the date appointed by the Administration of the Grand Orient of Santa
Catarina.
4th Art. - Any initiation made without the proper “Placet” of the Great Secretary Administration
will be invalid for the Grand Orient of Santa Catarina.
5th Art. - The validity of all actual registers are extended indefinitely, or until further notice,
with no more need of renewal, since the fellow is regular, and so declared by the W. Master.
6th Art. - The semiannual word will be sent after June 30th.
7th Art. - All contrary dispositions are repealed and all proper communication must be done
[...].
Many authors, when refer to the process happened after the election of 1973, call this
period as the “Split in the Brazilian Masonry. The term “schism” is still the most used, but it
needs a reformulation. According to Br. Christian Farias Santos, member of Lodge “Acácia
dos Campos” and Assistant Secretary for International Relations of GOSC, the term “split” ,
“was given by GOB in 1927, with the Grand Lodges”. According to him, “there is a division
when there is a separation inside a Masonic Body, only under an administrative point of view.
There is no masonic jurisdictional dispute. If such dispute happens the correct term is ‘schism’,
when the declared masonry situation is totally irregular. However, it is being understood by
split a disparate movement, non organized, as if several lodges were participating, a key that is
usually pressed due to the uncomfortable situation in our State, as GOB had to put a Delegation
here after GOSC’s dissociation. A term which must not be used is ‘schism’, as there wasn’t
jurisdiction dispute”. Brother Christian suggests the term “ dissociation”, because GOSC, “as
an autonomous Masonic Body, regular and legitimate dissociated from the Federation that
constitutes GOB. It didn’t questioned masonic jurisdiction or entered in a dispute for it. It kept
all masonry protocols, even allowing the Lodges to choose if they would remain with GOSC or
if they would rather move to the Delegation”. As we refer to and quote another authors when we
talk about this period, we kept the term ‘division’ in the quotations and references.

Fraternal Living among Masonic Bodies through History
Discussions about the Order
In researches made recently, on the celebrations of GOSC’s 60th anniversary, we found
out that joint events among Masonic Bodies started in 1956, soon after the creation of the
Grand Lodge of Santa Catarina. In a meeting of Worshipful Masters organized by GOSC they
“discussed, aligned and approved the new paths for Catarinense Freemasonry, which were
convenient for the Order”. When the meeting was over, a lunch was offered at Lira Tenis Club,
in the capital of the State, with the presence of the Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Grand
Lodge of Santa Catarina.
“Mason’s Day”
In the next decade, new events are registered, especially on the celebrations of August,
20th, the “Mason’s Day”. In 1965, with the collaboration of the Grand Lodge of Santa Catarina,
a Public Session was held in the auditorium of the Justice’s Palace. This solemnity had
the presences of the Grand Master and Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Santa
Catarina, illustrious members of the State Board, of the Masonic Egregious Court of Law, of
the Powerful Legislative State House, members of the Administrations of the Grand Lodge,
Worshipful Masters, as well as representatives of the Lodges “Luz e Verdade 3ª”, “Paz e Amor
5ª”, “Fraterniade Blumenauens”, of “Sublime Capítulo de Joinville” and a great number of
Freemasons, ladies and guests. The money of the “Solidarity Collection” was sent to the
Charity’s Box of Florianópolis.
Newsletter
The publications of news of the Grand Lodge of Santa Catarina on GOSC’s official
newsletter started this same year. These publications were related, first, to the news about the
elections for its Grand Master and, latter, to the publication of candidates for the initiation in the
Lodges under jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of Santa Catarina. This kind of publication and
newsletter, latter, also included the actual Grand Orient of Brazil – Santa Catarina.
Investment Fund
We found in this same period the existence of a “State Investment Fund”, organized by the
“Humanitas Benevolent Society”, based in the city of Blumenau, which’s administration was
shared by Brothers from the Lodges of “Fraternidade Blumenauense” and “Justiça e Trabalho”.
The first one was subordinated to the Grand Lodge of Santa Catarina and the second, to GOSC.
The Visit of GOB’s Grand Master’s
Another important event was the visit of the Sovereign General Grand Master of the
Grand Orient of Brazil, Brother Álvaro Palmeira, who was returning from another event in the
State of Rio Grande do Sul, in December, 13th, 1965. In this same day a Public Session was
held in the Industry Palace’s Auditorium, with the presence of a great number of Brothers from
several Lodges, and also the Most Worshipful Grand Master and the Deputy Grand Master of
the Grand Lodge of Santa Catarina. We would like to call attention to the closure of works on

this day. When the Masonic authorities were leaving, the Sovereign Grand Master left the place
“hand in hand” with GOSC’s and Grand Lodge’s Grand Masters. They went towards the rooms
of Lira Tenis Club, where a dinner was offered.
Grand Master’s Inauguration
In the Session Magna for the Inauguration of Brother Miguel Christakis as GOSC’s Grand
Master, in June 28th, 1969, the Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Santa
Catarina was present. In his speech, Brother João Pedro Nunes thanked for the invitation and
showed his “satisfaction to be present in this magnificent party”.
The Catarinense Masonic Movement
In the year of 1983, when flooding occurred in the State of Santa Catarina, the damage
made by the rain and flooding were huge, leaving many homeless people. Some of them were
Brothers under GOSC’s jurisdiction and other Masonic Bodies. They lost all their possessions.
As the quickest action for the occasion, a meeting was held, with the presences of all
administration of the Grand Orient, the Worshipful Masters of Lodges in the Capital and the
Grand Master of the Grand Orient of the State of Santa Catarina – GOESC, Brother Rubens
Vitor da Silva, and the Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Santa Catarina – Brother José
Abelardo Lunardelli, and their related Administrations.
Of this meeting, held inside GOSC, came a “proclamation” document and the creation of
“Catarinense Masonic Movement for Brothers”, which’s mission was give assistance, through
specialized committees, to all Brothers who was injured, no matter to which jurisdiction he
would belong to. A “Calamity Fund” was planned to be ruled, and the money would come from
the balance of the sums donated in calamities.
From then on, regular meetings among the three Masonic Bodies kept on going, providing
their integration with visits to the Lodges and participation in social and cultural events organized
by Sister’s Masonic Bodies.
About this historical moment, Brother Lúcio Nelson reports:
When we assume the Grand Orient in 1981, I didn’t know the Grand Master of the Grand
Lodge of Santa Catarina, Abelardo Lunardelli [...]. Then, there was a big coincidence, as Vady
was a tax inspector [...] José Abelardo Lunardelli was tax inspector and Rubens Victor da Silva,
from GOB, was tax inspector and I, myself was also a county tax inspector. [...] So, I told Vady
to talk to them and to arrange a meeting. A dinner was scheduled with the three Grand Masters,
when Brother Lucio asked about the “absurd” situation. According to him, all of them were
Brothers and work colleagues. Therefore, each one of them gave his opinion about the matter,
in order to solve the problem. It was settled that, from that moment on, they would do whatever
they could to “settle things right”.
Masonic Benevolence and Moneybox
After the meetings reported above, other important initiatives took place, such as the
participation in meetings in the Temple of the Grand Lodge of Santa Catarina, looking for
alternatives to consolidate the “Masonic Benevolence “and the “Charity’s Box”.

“The Plumb” Magazine (“O Prumo”)
The Grand Master Samuel Fonseca decided as one of the primary goals of his mandate the
re-edition, in a new phase, of the magazine “The Plumb”, which’s last number circulated in the
second semester of 1973. In this new phase, “The Plumb” remained an organ of disclosure of
news from the Grand Mastership and from the Lodges of the Grand Orient of Santa Catarina, as
well as “also a way to propagate the ideals of the Masonic thought, not only of GOSC but also
from every Mason, even from other jurisdictions”.
An agreement with INAMPS
A committee arranged among the Lodges “Templários da Justiça”, “Estrela do Sul” and
“Luz Serrana”, the last one from the Grand Lodge of Santa Catarina, all of them from the Orient
of Lages, obtained for the National Institute of Medical Assistance and Welfare (INAMPS),
actual Health System – SUS, a Child ICU, with eight beds, for the Child Hospital “Seara do
Bem”. This was made through the person of Brother Luiz Alberto Silveira, who was then
Regional Superintendent of that institution.
Title of Masonic Merit for the PMSC
In April, 12th, 1985, the Title of “Masonic Merit” was given to the Military Police of
Santa Catarina. During an event held in April, 29th, GOSC honored the Military Police of Santa
Catarina, offering the title on its dedication and relevant services given to Freemasonry, in the
year that its 150th foundation was celebrated. In the solemnity, Grand Master Samuel Fonseca
was accompanied by Grand Masters of the Grand Lodge of Santa Catarina and Grand Orient of
the State of Santa Catarina - GOB.
The Union of the Catarinense Freemasonry
Under Brother Samuel Fonseca’s administration there was a great approximation between
the three Masonic Bodies of Santa Catarina. This approximation started during the previous
administration, when Brother Lúcio Nelson Martins was the Grand Master, and it served as an
example for all Brazilian Freemasonry.
In a public message at the Newsletter, the Grand Master exalted this union between
GOSC, the Grand Lodge of Santa Catarina (Grand Master José Abelardo Lunardelli) and the
Grand Orient of the State of Santa Catarina - GOB(Grand Master Rubens Victor da Silva),
“fighting for a bigger ideal, in the expectancy to realize hopes and feelings that are demanding
for the Masonic community of Santa Catarina”.
The three Grand Masters had the purpose to unite all Freemasons, no matter the
jurisdiction. The continuity of this idea of union led to the publication of an important text,
bringing all Freemasonry, especially the Freemasonry in Santa Catarina, to participate in the
discussions and debates.

INVITATION
The Freemasonry Grand Masters of Santa Catarina, represented by the GRAND ORIENT
OF THE STATE OF SANTA CATARINA, GRAND LODGE OF SANTA CATARINA and GRAND
ORIENT OF SANTA CATARINA, in the name of their respective Jurisdicitions have the honor and
the pleasure to invite Your Excellency for the ceremonies on the COMEMORATIVE SESSION OF
THE NATION’S WEEK.

Florianópolis, August 3rd., 1986.
With the invitation above, the Freemasonry in Santa Catarina lived a new and original
experience, from the beginning of the so called “Triangle Operation”.
There was a change in the Freemasonry thought in Santa Catarina, regarding the ecumenical
coexistence among the Masonic Bodies, which coexisted separately only by borders which
were “purely administrative”.
The several cycles of “Triangle Operation” helped to pacify, unite, integrate and develop
all Brothers, no matter to what Jurisdictio they belong, allowing the History of Freemasonry in
Santa Catarina to be changed by the exemplary behavior of Grand Masters of Grand Orient of the
State of Santa Catarina- GOB, of the Grand Lodge of Santa Catarina e of GOSC, respectively,
through Brothers Rubens Victor da Silva, José Abelardo Lunardelli and Samuel Fonseca.
The commemorative session of the Nation’s Week with the three Jurisdictions, on
September, 4th, 1986, at Alvaro de Carvalho Theatre, was one the most expressive facts in
the union of the”Catarinense Masonic People” since the proclamation sent to all Masons in
October, 1985.
According to the message, the Freemasonry in Santa Catarina was represented, from then
on, by Masonic Bodies “sisters by tradition, by conscience, by identity of objectives, by unity
of thought, by cohesion of feeling, by historical past and by the desire of all Brothers”.
Treaty of Fraternal Relations and Friendship
At August, 14th, 1987, the Grand Master of GOSC, during a meeting with Brothers James
Gilson Berlim and Elmo Bittencourt, respectively, Grand Masters of the Grand Lodge and
Grand Orient of the State of Santa Catarina, presented the draft of the “Treaty of Fraternal
Relations and Friendship” for appreciation and posterior agreement of the three State Masonic
Obediences.
This action strengthened the “action flow” of the Secretary of International Relations.
Under the management of Brother Vady Mello, strategies were put into action in order to build
a cooperation policy, with reciprocal strengthen and growth of the three Masonic Bodies of the
State of Santa Catarina, as well as of other States. The signature of treaties of fraternal relations
and friendship was one of them.

For this, some basic directions were taken, which were:
- To base GOSC’s work not on prominence but to put all work on proposals which were
presented and discussed in the utmost equality and fraternity among Masonic Bodies;
- Every project that comes from this will be implicitly approved by Masonic Bodies;
- The joint work among Masonic Bodies should be in favor of initiatives and activities
which would improve Masonry’s knowledge and their level at Masonic and social’s plans;
- Implementation of the experience’s sharing system;
- Protocol transcription in which Masonic Bodies agree with the proposed objectives and
with favor for the philosophical unit, without detriment of the administrative particularities of
each Masonic Body;
- Realization of a series of visits, studies, researches and planned meetings;
To put some of these objectives into action a meeting was held with the Grand Masters of
Grand Orients of Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná and Santa Catarina, respectively, Milton Barbosa
da Silva, Areli da Silva Correia and Francisco Vady Nozar de Mello. Together in Florianopolis,
at GOSC’s Temple, on September 8th, 1987, the three Grand Masters discussed an agenda with
several issues:
- sociological, institutional and administrative aspects of the Grand Orients;
- the position of the Masonry Institution towards the institutional, economical, educational
and social phenomenon, inside and outside the Masonic Bodies;
- integration with other Masonic Bodies, non confederate, in order to establish methods
of action which would result in “Recognition Terms”, with similar content;
- increase the connection between Confederate Masonic Bodies in the South Region, in
order to give better support to the administrations of the Grand Orients; and
- problems with the Grand Masters College of Brazil’s Masonic Confederation.
1ª General Assembly of the Fraternity
This Assembly was held at the same time with the “1st Seminary of Studies and Masonic
Orientation”, at June, 24th, 1989. After the meeting, a proclamation was published to all
Brothers of the State:

We, Elmo Bittencourt, Grand Master of the GRAND ORIENT OF THE STATE OF SANTA
CATARINA, James Gilson Berlim, Grand Master of the GRAND LODGE OF SANTA CATARINA
and Francisco Vady Nozar de Mello, Grand Master of GRAND ORIENT OF SANTA CATARINA,
Masonic Bodies, Sisters by TRADITION, by CONSCIENCE, by IDENTITY of Objectives, by
UNITY of thought and by COHESION of feelings.
Considering the passage of Winter’s Solstice of the Year of 5.989 of the V\ L\”
Considering the commemorative date of the day of Saint John, Masonic Patron;
Considering that we are all in a Fraternity General Assembly.
Together and in a coordinate way, WE DECIDE:
1 - To salute all Lodges and Masons on the celebrations of such significant events;
2 - To reaffirm our purposes of LIBERTY, EQUALITY AND FRATERNITY;
3 - To reaffirm our conviction in the principles that we adopted, as Masons, of standard of
living, rule of moral conduct, recommended in our Temples;
4 - To establish that on future winter solstices Masons of Santa Catarina will gather in Table’s
Lodge;

5 - To indicate a Permanent Committee with six (6) Brothers, two (2) of each Masonic
Body with all powers, to present proposals which will materialize what is written in this document,
resumed in Masonic Unity.
ADOPTION OF A PUBLIC SQUARE AND CONSTRUCTION OF AN OBELISK
In October, 17th, 1990, a “Special Committee” of GOSC was created to perform a project
that aimed the adoption of a Public Square and the construction of a Masonic obelisk in the
State’s Capital.
A cooperation term was signed between the Prefecture of Florianopolis and the three
Masonic Bodies. The Prefecture was represented by the Mayor, Mr. Antonio Henrique Bulcão
Viana, and the Catarinense Freemasonry was represented by Brothers José Carlos Pacheco,
José Abelardo Lunardelli and Elmo Bittencourt, respectively Grand Masters of GOSC, Grand
Lodge and GOESC.
The agreement determined the performance of services of urbanization in the adopted
square, according to the parameters authorized by Municipal Law nº 2.668, of September, 28th,
1987.
Among the several items in the signed agreement, we highlight:
CATARINENSE FREEMASONRY promises to execute, under its total and full responsibility,
and to its exclusive expenses, as a way of cooperation with the city, the services of maintenance,
conservation and improvement of the equipments of leisure and culture or green area of the road
system, located in the confluence of Paulo Fontes Avenue with João Bertoli Street.
All improvement or proposal for the adopted area shall be previously submitted to the
approval of the Municipal Secretary of Urbanism and Public Services.
Improvements:
- Construction of monuments: Rough Stone
- Execution of Mosaic Floor
- Execution of “Petit Pavet” pavement, around the perimeter area.
This present Term of Cooperation will be valid for 1 (one) year, from the date of its signature,
and can be prorogated, automatically, for equal and successive periods of 1 (one) year, unless one of
the parties will manifest against the prorogation due to 30 (thirty) days.
The monument cornerstone came to be thrust, with the construction of a scaffold where
the Masonic obelisk would be put, but, as the necessary resources for its maintenance weren’t
directed, and there was a necessity of alteration in local traffic, the cornerstone was taken, and
this was the end of this first initiative.
The project was planned to be in a nearby place where today is a Masonic monument in
the Capital.
Fraternization and Masonic Seminary
In order to show that “the Catarinense Masonic family works and improves united” the
Grand Master of three Masonic Bodies in the State, when closed their activities of the Masonic
year of 1991, made a closure with “golden key, making this catarinense conquer of us a national
example and, all united, will wait for the celebrations of the end of the year”.
It was scheduled for December, 6th the thrust of the “cornerstone” of the Masonic
monument, in a public square adopted by Freemasonry, according the program distributed to

the Lodges.
Under GOSC’s coordination, there was a fraternization of Catarinense Masons at the
Paula Ramos Sport Club, no matter what Masonic Body, including a fraternal, beneficent and
commemorative dinner.
In the next day, December, 7th, it was held the “4th Catarinense Masonic Seminary”,
which had as main theme the discussion of ritualistic procedures, parameters and Masonic and
social fraternity.
1st Seminary of Symbolic Masonry Among Masonic Bodies.
In October, 16th, 1992, GOSC came together with the Lodges “Ordem e Trabalho” nº
0787, subordinated to GOESC, “Duque de Caxias”, subordinated to GLSC, and “Ordem e
Trabalho” nº 03, subordinated to GOSC, sponsors of the “1st Seminary of Symbolic Masonry
Among Masonic Bodies”, under the coordination of Brother José Castellani.
The opening ceremony occurred at the Auditorium of the State Court of Auditors, with
the presence of Masonic authorities and a great number of guests.
GOSC’s Grand Master Inauguration
The new inauguration of Brothers José Carlos Pacheco as Grand Master, with Deputy
Grand Master Brother Lúcio Nelson Martins, was scheduled for June, 26th, 1993, at the Temple
of the Lodge “Fraternidade Catarinense “, in the Capital of the State.
In a message for the Grand Orient, Brother José Carlos Pacheco mentioned his first
mandate and the effective union of the Catarinense Masonry:
Three years passed and Masonry in Santa Catarina lives today a new and original experience
from the beginning of “TRIANGLE OPERATION”.
We lived moments which were rich of experiences that have provided us with a change in
Masonic thought in Santa Catarina and a national example on ecumenical coexistence, allowing
that in our State, Masonic Bodies live separated only by limits which are purely administrative. The
several cycles of the “TRIANGLE OPERATION” helped to pacify, unite, integrate and develop all
Brothers, no matter to what Masonic Body they belong, allowing the History of Masonry in the State
of Santa Catarina to be changed by the exemplary action of Grand Masters and the fraternal behavior
of catarinense masons.
In order to continue this union, Brother José Carlos Pacheco invited Brother Antonio de
Gouveia Medeiros, Grand Master of GOESC, and José da Cruz Medeiros, Grand Master of
the Grand Lodge of Santa Catarina, to keep on looking for the same common ideal, that is, the
“institutionalization of an Universal Masonry”.
Meeting of Leaders of the Masonic Lodges
On June, 18th, 1996, at the Auditorium of the State Court of Auditors, the Grand Masters
of Masonry in Santa Catarina, in the name of their respective Masonic Bodies, (GOSC, GOESC
and GLSC), invited the Worshipful Masters, Past Masters, Past Grand Masters, Past Deputies
of Grand Masters and Administration of the three Masonic Bodies, as well as Presidents of
Constituted Masonic Powers, for the so called meeting “interactive Masonry”.
This first meeting, in Florianopolis, had the following program:

1st Speeches of Grand Masters of the three Masonic Bodies;
2nd Discussion on the desired directions for Masonry;
3rd Speeches of Worshipful Masters and guests.
At this meeting was created a permanent committee of “Interactive Masonry”, with the
objective to elaborate and guide the execution of the flowchart of the activities prioritized by the
Lodges of Metropolitan Florianopolis, and, in due time, provide the routing of these proposals
to the leaders of “Inter-Comittee”, so that the Grand Mastership, in due time, could arrange
identical procedures in the other regions of the jurisdictions, with approval of the Masonic
Body.
Celebrations of Mason’s Day and the Independence Week
After the decisions made in a joint meeting with State Masonic Bodies, on September,
4th, 1996, Grand Master Edelson Naschenweng edit the act nº 20/GOSC/96-99, referent to the
necessity of guidance of the Worshipful Masters of Obedience Lodges, for the celebrations on
the “Mason’s Day” and “Nation’s Week” and the “Ritualistic Feast” on the end of the year.
About the celebrations on “Nation’s Week”, as it was always done, they would happen
under the coordination of one of the Masonic Bodeis, with the participation of the others.
The committee responsible for the event would be composed one representative of each
Grand Orient, appointed by their Grand Master.
In 1995, the coordination of the event on celebrating the “Nation’s Week” was GOSC’s,
in 1996 it was under GOESC and, in 1997, the coordination was under GLSC, and so on.
This example of union among Obedience was evident also in the realization of a Joint
Meeting of GOSC and GLSC, in celebration of mother’s day, in 1997.
Another joint meeting was held by GOSC’s Lodges and the Grand Lodge at November,
19th, 1997, to celebrate the 47th anniversary of the Lodge “14 de Julho”. The meeting was held
at GOSC’s Temple, exactly in the same place where the “14 de Julho” Lodge was founded, at
November,17th, 1950.
The day of May, 30th, 1998 will also go down in the History of Catarinense’s Masonry by
one of the most significant examples of union between two Masonic Obedience; the consecration
of the Temple where the Lodges “Zezinho Cascaes” , under GOSC’s jurisdiction, and “ Sentinela
do Vale”, under the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of Santa Catarina, would gather. Both
Lodges got together through an organization, the “Cultural Center Bento Gonçalves Ledo”,
and, together, they build their Temple.
GOSC’s NEW CONSTITUTION
At the time of GOSC’s Constituent Assembly, and held the two last Sessions, when all
presented emends were discussed and voted, all the Constitution’s project was finally approved.
The promulgation occurred in a “Special Meeting” held in December, 11th, 1999,
at the Castelmar Hotel Room, in Florianopolis, when more than two hundred Masons were
present, counting authorities and guests. In the table that presided works were Brothers Edelson
Naschenweng, GOSC’s Grand Master, Walmor Backes, Grand Master of Grand Orient of the
State of Santa Catarina, as well as other Masonic authorities.

GIVEN AND PLOTTED
On September 4th, 2000, during the Magna Session to Celebrate Brazil’s Independence,
under the auspices of Grand Orient of Santa Catarina, Grand Orient of the State of Santa Catarina e
Grand Lodge of Santa Catarina.
The referred treaty was signed to continue some actions proposed “all of them towards
commonwealth”. It also had the objective to start joint work in order to “strength, more and

more, the feeling of protection and prevalence of the family, mother cell of society’s moral
values”.
With these Masonic ideals, an Educational Foundation was created.
To fulfill this term, Brothers Santo Zacarias Gomes,from GOSC, Ib Silva, from GOESC,
and Luiz Rocetti Lunardelli, from GLSC founded the “HERMON Foundation”.
[...] The historical General Assembly to create the Foundation was held at April, 21st,
2001, in Florianopolis, at the Castelmar Hotel, with the presences of Grand Master Edelson
Naschenweng (GOSC), Wilson Filomeno (GLSC) and Walmor Backes (GOESC/GOB). There
were also present the Secretary for Education and Sports of the State of Santa Catarina, Teacher
Miriam Schlickmann, representing the Governor Espiridião Amim, the Deputy Grand Masters,
Luciano Aurélio Winck (GOSC), IB Silva (GOESC – GOB) and Airton Edmundo Alves (Deputy
of Grand Master of GLSC), and also 400 guests, among Brothers and their wives of the Lodges
under the three Masonic jurisdictions [...].
Hermon Foundation is “a juridical entity of private law, nonprofit, comprised of some
150 Masonic Lodges of the three Masonic Bodies of Santa Catarina, including more than 50
towns in the State”, to act in the areas of education, health and social assistance, offering better
life conditions to the catarinense society. It is present in more than 50 towns of the State, with
the participation of some four thousand volunteers, in the areas of education, health and social
assistance.
Manifestations and public events
The government plan of the Brothers Getúlio and Rubens had also an “external plan”
which was the amplification of GOSC’s presence in the media, “speaking, as always, about
issues of collective interest in order to provide society with a better understanding about the
Order”.
To put this into action, a manifest was signed by Grand Master Walmor Backes, of GOB-SC, and Airton Edmundo Alves, of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Santa Catarina, to
alert all Brothers about the “Spurious Lodges that were emerging in Santa Catarina and in
Brazil, without any commitment with the principles of the Order, which deserved special care
and attention”.
The campaign against corruption was also another movement with great participation
of Grand Orient. “The Order started to mobilize, initially, organizing for an efficient reaction,
not only against corruption but also against violence, another real social epidemic that strikes
Brazilian society”.
In mid 2006 three public events were held: a Session of Debates; a Commemorative
Sessions on the “Peace Day” and a Commemorative Solemnity on the “Day of the Catarinense
Press”.
Traditionally remembered by the Masonry in Santa Catarina and by the Catarinense Press
Association – ACI, the “Day of the Catarinense Press” was celebrated on July, 28th, date in which
circulated, in 1831, the first newspaper in the State, “The Catharinense”, published by Brother
Jerônimo Coelho. The solemnity happened at “Praça XV de Novembro”, in Florianopolis, near
to the monument that honors him, with the presence of authorities, masons and journalists, as
well as guests and public.

250 YEARS OF MOZART ’S ANNIVERSARY
In the year of 2006 there was a celebration for the 250 years of anniversary of Joannes
Chrysostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus, known as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, born on January
27th, 1756, whose music is “always remembered by its magic, with a significant value for
Masonry”.
The Opening of that Masonic year of GOSC was remembered by the presentation of the
Municipal Orchestra of Florianopolis, at the Temple of the Lodge “Ordem e Trabalho”, with
songs of this memorable composer, among them the “Magic Flute”, conducted by Brother
Carlos Alberto Angioletti Vieira.
The Magna Public Session of official opening of the “Masonic Year” of Grand Orient
of Santa Catarina, held in the night of March 6th, was honored by civil, military and Masonic
authorities of the three State Masonic Bodies, families and guests, with more than 300
participants.
Jerônimo Coelho’s Masonic Year
The year of 2006 was remembered in GOSC’s history as the “Jeronimo Coelho’s Masonic
Year”, with the commemorations of the bicentennial anniversary of the founder of the press
and of the first Masonic Lodge in Santa Catarina, congregating State Government, the three
Masonic Bodies, as well as a great number of organs and public and private entities, under the
coordination of the first, to remember the significant history of this illustrious man, born in the
city of Laguna.

Bodies to appoint one or more Sessions, economic or special, dedicated to the Bicentennial
Anniversary of Mason Jerônimo Coelho [...].

Several events were made. In the night of September, 27th, the Historical and Geographic
Institute of Santa Catarina – IHGSC held a Solemn Commemoration Session. The attraction
was the presence of a great grandson of Jerônimo Coelho, Colonel Manoel Soriano Neto, who
was in Santa Catarina especially for the celebrations of the bicentennial.
In the morning of September, 30th, a military solemnity was held at the 63rd Infantry
Battalion of the Brazilian Army, located in Bairro Estreito, in Florianopolis. Soon after the
solemnity opening, Brother Getúlio Corrêa read the authorization act for the functioning of the
Lodge “Concórdia” (soon after named “Cordialidade”), founded in 1931 by Jerônimo Coelho,
signaling the arrival of the Masonry to what was then the Province of Santa Catarina. After that
Colonel Manoel Soriano Neto, great grandson of Jerônimo Coelho presented a sketch of his
ancestral, remembering his most important deeds, as a military, statesman and Mason.
The act was honored by several Brothers of the three Masonic Bodies of Santa Catarina.
Construction of the Masonry Monument
A great number of Masons were at the audience with the Prefecture of Florianopolis, on
April, 20th, 2006, which discussed the construction of a monument to the Catarinense Masonry
in the Capital of the State.
In the morning of September 4th, the monument was inaugurated. State and Municipal
Authorities, as well as a great number of Brothers from the three Masonic Bodies, including
their Grand Masters, Brother Airton Edmundo Alves, of the Grand Lodge of Santa Catarina,
and Waltoir Menegotto, of the Grand Orient of Brasil/SC, were present at the solemnity.
The monument is located in an area nearby the Fernando Machado Square, downtown
Florianopolis, where there is a card identifying the monument, with references of the three
regular Masonic Bodies of Catarinense Masonry. Over the platform, in a capsule that is also a
cornerstone, daily newspapers were put, as well as coins, publications and Masonic and city
documents.
RELATIONS AMONG MASONIC BODIES
The Grand Mastership of GOSC intensified the policy of national and international
relations, having as one of the strands the issue of Masonic regularity.
In order to go forward institutionally, GOSC established, objectively and clearly, this
policy in its jurisdiction, according with the traditions, international norms and requirements.
It predicted also that, at Masonic interchange among Masonic Bodies of sisterhood Masonic
, GOSC would designate its “Friendship Guarantees” and, reciprocally, would receive the
“Friendship Guarantees” from Obedience of Sisterhood Masonic Potencies, activating or re-activating Treaties of Recognition and Friendship with Masonic which were part of the system
of Brazilian Masonic Confederation - COMAB, of the Grand Orient of Brazil - GOB and of
Brazilian Symbolic Masonry Confederation – CMSB and Interamerican Masonic ConfederationCMI and of Regular Masonic Grand Lodges with jurisdictions in other countries.
According to Grand Master: “In a national context, GOSC has been acting intensely to
continue the policy of integration and fraternity with Grand Orient of Brazil and Brazilian
Grand Lodges. In a continual fraternal and progress relationship, GOSC, with the
Grand Lodges of Santa Catarina and the Grand Orient of Brazil/SC, have, as well as punctual

administrative actions and actions through the Hermon Foundation, continued to practice the
realization of joined events. In special the one related to the Day of the Independence of Brazil,
besides strengthening joined positions into the community”.
We can quote some of them, in special:
1 – Joined Proclamation during the annual event organized by the Grand Lodge of Santa
Catarina, held at Orient of Blumenau, in 2008;
2 - Honors to Jerônimo Coelho, which took place on July, 28th, 2009, in Florianopolis,
at “Cruz e Souza” Palace and at “XV de Novembro” Square. The event had the presence of
countless civil and military authorities. Grand Master Rubens Ricardo Franz made a speech
in the name of the Grand Lodge of Santa Catarina, of Grand Orient of Brazil/SC and of Grand
Orient of Santa Catarina.
3 - Another joint manifestation occurred with GOSC and the MRGL/SC, during a “Call”
for the “Independence Day”, published at the catarinense press on September, 7th, 2009:
According to Grand Master, “in this context of national relationship, the continuous strength
of Brazilian Masonic Confederation – COMAB, is fundamental, together with their pairs:
Brazilians Confederation of Symbolic Masonry – CMSB and the Grand Orient of Brazil –
GOB”.
OPENING OF MASONIC YEAR OF 2009
In the year of 2009, the Grand Orient of Santa Catarina restarted its activities on January,
2nd. According to the Grand Master “it was done on right time, exactly so that we can prepare
all work and logistics needed to fulfill our objectives and goals in attention to the desires and
necessities of the Grand Orient”.
In the occasion, the Grand Mastership started the process of symbolic opening of the
Masonic year of 2009 in each of the State’s Districts. The process was initiated in Laguna and
ended in Florianopolis on March, 16th, when some 750 Brothers of the three Masonic Bodies of
Santa Catarina (GOB/SC, Grand Lodges and GOSC) packed the auditorium of the Legislative
House to honor the joint ceremony of “Opening of the Masonic Year”.
The event was brightened by a lecture made by Brother Salomão Ribas Júnior, exPresident of the State Audit Office, and member of the Lodge “Ordem e Trabalho”, under the
jurisdiction of GOSC, with the theme: “Crisis, Ethic and Society”.
PUBLIC MANIFESTATIONS
During his mandate, Grand Master Rubens Ricardo Franz “tried to intensify GOSC’s
official manifestations, taking advantage of all strategic moments of institutional presence”.
Brother Rubens remembers here some manifestations, besides the ones that are already
registered:
1 - At the Legislative House of the State of Santa Catarina – ALESC, at August, 20th,
2008, during the allusive session of “Mason’s Day”, in honor to all three Masonic Bodies of the
State (GOB/SC, MRGL/SC and GOSC);
2 - At the Legislative House of the State of Santa Catarina - ALESC, at September, 30th,
2009 during the allusive session of “Mason’s Day”, in honor to the three Masonic columns of

the State (GOB/SC, MRGL/SC and GOSC).
ELEUTÉRIO / CATARINENSE MASONIC ACADEMY OF LETTERS
The Catarinense Masonic Academy of Letters gathers Masons affiliated to the three
Masonic Bodies of Santa Catarina: GOSC, GOB/SC and GLSC. It results from the ideal of a
little group of Masons, more precisely, of twelve members of the Symbolic Lodge “Regeneração
Catarinense”, under GOB/SC’s jurisdiction, founded in 1859, the oldest Masonic Lodge in
activity in the State of Santa Catarina.
In the early afternoon of April, 21st, 1989, those Fellows met in an agreeable rural
property, located at Cacupé, which was owned by one of them, Brother Antonio de Lara Ribas,
Colonel of the Military Police of Santa Catarina, Under the initiative of Brother Sérgio Bopré,
aided by Brother Alcides Tavares, the group was invited and met in order to create a Masonic
Letter Academy. The intentions, objectives and means of the institution that they intended to
create were discussed. Once everything was settled, the first administration of the Academy was
formed and the foundation record was written as follows:
“On April, 21st, 1989, at two o’clock, gathered the ones signed below in the house
of Colonel Antonio de Lara Ribas, in Cacupe, an agreeable property in the Island of Santa
Catarina, Florianopolis, State of Santa Catarina, with the objective of creating a Masonic
Academy of Letters.
22 After some discussions on the issue, we consider the enterprise a very responsible one
and therefore, all that are initially committed to the idea will have to put all their strength in
order to achieve maximum success with this entity that we intend to create. As all agreed, we
considered the Masonic Academy of Letters founded. After that, we read the Statute’s project
which, under careful analysis, was approved.
From then on, the referred Statutes will rule the recently created society which will
be nominated ( Catarinense Masonic Academy of Letters), which’s objective is the study of
symbolic and philosophic degrees of masonry and the research of its history and of its uses
and traditions. Its direction was elected and was formed as follows: President: Mr. Julio Doim
Vieira, Vice-President: Teacher Hercílio de Faveri, Secretary: Mr. Sérgio Boppré, Treasurer:
Mr. Ignácio Queiroz, Librarian: Mr. Nilo da Silva Velloso. The following Central Committee
was also elected: Mr. Gustavo Zimmer, Mr. Alcides de Assunção Tavares, and Mr. Rui Olímpio
de Oliveira as effective members and Dr. Rubens Victor da Silva, Doralécio Soares and Sr. Edy
Leopoldo Tremel as Alternates. For President of Honor of the Academy, by unanimity, was
elected Cel.Antônio de Lara Ribas,
one of the most ancient and active Brother in Catarinense Masonry. The direction will
decide the calendar of meetings for the current year and will take all necessary steps to start the
Academy activities. Having no further issues to discuss, the present record was written, read,
agreed and signed by all presents”.
The following Brothers were present:
Antonio de Lara Ribas, Julio Doin Vieira, Sérgio Boppré, Ignácio Queiroz, Hercílio de
Faveri, Rui Olimpio de Oliveira, Rubens Victor da Silva, Gustavo Zimmer, Doralécio Soares,
Nilo da Silva Veloso, Alcides de Assunção Tavares and Edy Leopoldo Tremel.
Since that day, the Catarinense Masonic Academy of Letters is at work, admitting new

members affiliated also to the other two Masonic Bodies of our State, Grand Orient of Santa
Catarina e Grand Lodge of Santa Catarina, always spreading and defending the Masonic ideals
of liberty of expression, agreement, tolerance and fraternity, high lightening the Masonic
characteristics that unite us, no matter the different administrative attachments.
In its internal rule, the expanded objectives of the Academy are clearly stated: “THE
ACADEMY, as a Mason literacy association, having the objective to work for the progress
of the culture and the Masonic letters in general, looks for the realization of the following
attributions: a) the study of philosophy of the symbolic and superior degrees of Masonry;
b) the research of history and uses and traditions of the Masonic Order;
c) the promotion of conferences and speeches about Masonic themes, science, art and
general culture;
d) the cultivation of the high moral principles of the Masonic Order;
e) to develop Masonic researches, studies and conferences, permanent and under the
solicitation of Masonic entities;
f) to promote Masonic courses of history study and interpretation, symbolism and
ritualism, under the direction of specialized teachers;
23 g) equidistant of Masonic Bodies, it will try to unite Masonic intellectuals from the
State and Brazil, to promote the exchange of ideas and the advantages of team work;
h) to defend by all means the rights of Masonic writer and his work;
i) to promote cultural interchange among masons and Brazilian and international Masonic
entities, participating, even just as an observer, of congresses, conferences and meetings”.
Its membership is composed of forty members, and the patrons of each Chair are chosen
among the most representative names of the State’s Masonic life.
The Catarinense Masonic Academy of Letters meets regularly four times a year, in
quarterly sessions and in as many extraordinary sessions as are necessary, all of them convened
by its president.
If there are vacancies, any regular Mason, no matter which Masonic Body, can be
appointed to the Direction by three effective members, under merits recognition in several areas
of activity, of intelligence and Masonic culture, having performed works of recognized merits;
literally, culturally or educationally.
Following its internal rule, the Academy, through its members, interacts with the Masonic
community of the State, giving its contribution always when invited, through speeches,
seminaries, articles and books, always pursuing the contribution in the production and
preservation of Masonic culture, in all aspects.

– COMAB visits the Office of Central Power The Grand Master of the
Grand Orient of Santa Catarina and President of the Brazilian Masonic
Confederation – COMAB, Brother Rubens Ricardo Franz, visited today
(19/02/2009), in the morning, the Office of Central Power of the Grand
Orient of Brazil.
Brother Rubens was welcomed by GOB’s General Grand Master, Sovereign Brother Marcos José da Silva, who guided him in a visit to the
GOB’s Central Power Office and thanked the cherished Brother Rubens
for the visit, making himself available in the Order’s favor.

For the tribute, the Worshipful Master of the Lodge receives an allusive plate, with the
register of the presences of Brother Marcos José da Silva (General Grand Master of GOB),

Master of GOB/SC).

Assembléia Legislativa presta homenagem
A
Assembléia Legislativa dedicou uma
sessão solene para homenagear a Maçonaria catarinense pelo transcurso
do Dia do Maçom, comemorado desde
2005 no dia 20 de agosto. A geração de maçons
se sucede a cada dia lutando pelos direitos humanos, contra os opressores e as desigualdades”, ressaltou o deputado Jorginho Melo.
O Parlamento catarinense entregou
placas comemorativas aos grão-mestres da
Grande Loja de Santa Catarina, José Domingos Rodrigues; do Grande Oriente de Santa
Catarina, Rubens Ricardo Franz; e do Grande
Oriente do Brasil, Ib Silva. Para Rodrigues,
a homenagem tem um significado singular, já que lhe proporciona compartilhar tal
momento em prol da paz, da fraternidade e
da justiça. Segundo ele, a Maçonaria tem o
propósito de lutar por todos os povos, sem
distinção de fronteiras. “Na qualidade de cidadãos livres, que lutam pelo bem-estar da
humanidade, devemos cada vez mais nos
convencermos do nosso dever e reafirmar o
compromisso da ordem.” Ele aproveitou a
ocasião para enfatizar a necessidade dos maçons terem consciência das injustiças sociais
que assolam o país, para que, assim, possam
adotar posições firmes e corajosas em defesa
dos direitos dos brasileiros, de acordo com
os ensinamentos maçons. “A nossa crença representa a esperança de felicidade do nosso

nosso meio, os antiéticos e os imorais. Essa
é a nossa grande missão.”
O segundo homenageado da noite declarou ter um sonho. “Gostaria que todas as
pessoas do mundo fossem maçons”, disse
Ib Silva, reforçando os discursos anteriores
que destacaram o trabalho maçônico pela
busca da perfeição, do bom comportamento,
da prática do amor e da fraternidade. “Devemos respeitar a dignidade de cada pessoa, ter
compromisso com a ética e com a moralidade, amor à família e crença no grande arquiteto do universo.” Silva ainda observou que
cada maçom deve exercer o seu papel social
na missão de transformar o mundo. E desejou: “Que todos possam dizer de nós, irmãos
unidos na luta de um mundo melhor”. Por
sua vez, Franz agradeceu o espaço concedido pela Assembléia Legislativa e fez coro às
palavras proferidas anteriormente. “A Maçonaria tem como objetivo o aperfeiçoamento
moral, espiritual e cultural do homem”.

Conclamamos aos cidadãos brasileiros
que apóiem o livre exercício da cidadania e a necessidade do compromisso de
todos para com a Ética e para com a moralidade
pública.

para que neste momento político nacional escolham os candidatos que atuem
com ética, com decência, com lisura, com correção
e com honestidade, sob pena de comprometermos,
de forma grave, o futuro das próximas gerações.

para que lutem por uma Política Tributária justa neste País. Que se promova
o aumento da base de contribuição, uma melhor
participação de Estados e Municípios no “bolo tributário” e conseqüentemente pela redução da carga
tributária deste País, que é uma das mais altas do
mundo, sem a equivalente contrapartida de serviços
ao cidadão. O volume que é arrecadado, dia após
dia, bate recordes de arrecadação mês após mês, e
é consumido sem que a sociedade perceba os benefícios a ela gerado, visto que os graves problemas
com segurança, educação, saúde, transporte, etc...
continuam presentes em nossas vidas.

Conclamamos aos cidadãos brasileiros,
a trabalharem pela inclusão social, harmônica e fraterna. Visto que vivemos
em um País de injustiças seculares, em que a desigualdade figura como algo permanente e natural e a
pobreza parece resistir aos discursos e às políticas
que pretendem erradicá-la. Não é mais possível desconhecer ou ignorar essa realidade. A população,
contrariamente aos princípios constitucionais, está
sendo segregada em classes e categorias cada vez
mais díspares, incompatíveis com sociedades democráticas, com as melhores tradições republicanas
e com a natureza do convívio harmônico e fraterno
do povo brasileiro.

Ao finalizarmos, esperamos que este manifesto ecoe, em todos os cantos e recantos, como um brado pela consciência dos
nossos cidadãos, para que atuem pela preservação
e observância das suas escolhas, dentro de critérios
onde se preserve a ética e se garanta a moralidade
em nosso País.
6.
As reformas que este País tanto necessita
não devem ser apenas política nem apenas ética. Deverá ter um sólido embasamento moral, doutrinário, idealístico, buscando a
adequada formação de caráter, patriotismo e ainda
os sentimentos de dever e humanidade.
Nestes pressupostos estão contidos os princípios e preceitos maçônicos, a que devem recorrer os
nossos deputados na elaboração das leis. Cumprenos despertar nos cidadãos o valor da ética social.
Não nos deixemos dominar pelo comodismo, pelo
desânimo, pela desesperança.
Orgulhemo-nos de ser corretos e envergonhemo-nos da prática de ações condenáveis.
Preservemos, a todo o custo, o sistema de moralidade que nos incute a Ordem Maçônica.
Este é o pensamento do Grande Oriente de Santa Catarina, suas lojas e seus obreiros, unidos numa
cruzada moral pela restauração da lisura, da probidade e da correção na vida pública e social, para que

Franz e Tissot visitam Irmãos ligados à atividade política

O Grão-Mestre Rubens Ricardo Franz e o Grão-Mestre Adjunto, Alaor Tissot, visitaram no
dia 16 de dezembro os Irmãos
Jorginho Mello e Joarez Ponticelli,
ambos deputados estaduais. Os
assuntos discutidos foram o novo
Código Florestal do Estado e a formação de Regiões Metropolitanas.
Os Irmãos parlamentares se colocaram à disposição para discutir
os temas com os Obreiros e com
a população em geral em todas as
regiões do Estado.
No mesmo dia, Franz e Tissot
visitaram o Irmão Hugo Hoeschl,
Presidente do CIASC (Centro de
Informática e Automação do Estado de Santa Catarina), cuja gestão
tem sido elogiada por diversos
segmentos da sociedade, em âm-
bito nacional. A conversa girou
em torno de novas tecnologias
desenvolvidas pelo CIASC que
podem ser aplicadas ao GOSC.
Já em janeiro, o Grão-Mestre, acompanhado do Irmão José
Carlos Pacheco, presidente do
Tribunal de Contas de Santa Catarina, fez uma visita de cortesia
ao Irmão Gean Loureiro, presidente da Câmara de Vereadores
de Florianópolis. O objetivo foi o
de parabenizar o Irmão Loureiro
pela sua reeleição e por ter assumido o comando do Legislativo
municipal da capital. “Certamente o Irmão Gean vai imprimir em
sua gestão à frente da Câmara de
Vereadores de Florianópolis os
ideais da nossa Ordem”, declarou

Maçons dão exemplo na administração
do Hospital Santa Otília, em Orleans
A
situação do Hospital Santa Otília era
muito delicada. Os funcionários estavam com os salários atrasados há
dois meses quando os maçons das lojas Toneza Cascaes (GOSC) e São João Batista
(Grandes Lojas) decidiram se unir e assumir
a sua administração. Hoje a instituição paga
salários e encargos sociais em dia e conseguiu
fazer investimentos de mais de meio milhão
de reais na melhoria de sua infra-estrutura.
Tudo começou com os Irmãos Gilberto
Pieri e Luiz Carminati, presidente e secretário do Conselho do Hospital. Quando perceberam que a administração da instituição
não ia bem, resolveram fazer um desafio aos
Obreiros das duas Lojas da cidade, que prontamente toparam o desafio. O Irmão Ricardo
Rodrigues assumiu a presidência da diretoria,
tendo auxílio dos Irmãos Jocondo Crocetta
Neto (Vice-Presidente), Ângelo Alberton Júnior, Guido Pizzolatti (Tesoureiro), Juci Araújo
(Tesoureiro-Adjunto) e Ênio Galvane (Secretário-Adjunto). Fazem parte ainda do quadro os
Irmãos Alcimar Jung (Diretor Administrativo)
e Carlos Alberto Bússolo (Contador).
Formada a equipe, os Obreiros foram à
luta e conseguiram melhorar cada vez mais o
hospital, enxugando e otimizando a equipe. O
trabalho que antes era feito por 68 pessoas hoje
é realizado por 35 funcionários, sem perda de
qualidade e agilidade. Os pacientes atendidos
pelo SUS têm, cada vez mais, atendimento
equiparado aos pacientes particulares. E a folha de pagamento é quitada sempre no último
dia útil de cada mês, religiosamente.
Além disso, os Irmãos conseguiram movimentar os políticos e as entidades sem fins lucrativos da região Sul, como o Rotary e o Lions
e buscaram recursos para investir na melhoria
da estrutura física do hospital. Foram investidos R$ 240 mil na reforma e ampliação do
centro cirúrgico. Outros R$ 120 mil foram
aplicados na reforma e ampliação da entrada,
recepção e várias salas do hospital. A reforma
dos quartos e banheiros custou R$ 25 mil e
outros R$ 130 mil renovaram os equipamentos médicos da instituição.
A administração dos Maçons tem sido tão
eficaz que, nos últimos anos, o hospital se tornou referência na cidade, ao honrar sempre o
13º salário e o pagamento do mês de dezembro
antes do Natal. Possibilita, assim, aos funcionários e seus familiares, melhores condições
financeiras para as Festas de final de ano. E faz
a alegria do comércio local.
O saneamento das contas passou ainda
pelas questões fiscal e trabalhista. Foram quitados alguns parcelamentos e os remanescentes estão sendo pagos em dia, possibilitando
a aquisição de Certidões Negativas, tanto da
Receita Federal quanto do INSS, importantes
para recebimento de subvenções e outras ajudas financeiras do poder público.

Hospital Regional Alto Vale
Uma história de
dedicação e conquistas
A história da construção do Hospital Regional Alto Vale começou em 1979. Depois
de seguidas interrupções nos trabalhos, em
1990 o então prefeito Nodgi Pellizzetti criou
por lei uma Comissão Especial, formada por
vários segmentos da sociedade, para cuidar
das obras. Esta Comissão, totalmente desvinculada do poder público e administrada pela
comunidade, passou a promover campanhas,
shows, rifas, pedágios, churrascos e outros
eventos, para levantar dinheiro para a construção. Paralelamente, trabalhava-se também
na busca de recursos municipais, estaduais e
federais. Infelizmente, sem obter muito êxito
junto ao poder público.
A conclusão da obra ficou mais próxima
com a posse do governador Vilson Kleinübing, que assumiu o compromisso de terminar a obra. Além de cumprir esta promessa,
na gestão dele o Estado adquiriu todos os
equipamentos hospitalares para o HRAV. Importantes também foram as doações recebidas
em dinheiro ou em materiais de construção,
tanto das pessoas quanto das empresas. Em 26
de março de 1994, depois de quase 15 anos
em construção, o Hospital Regional Hospital
Regional Alto Vale finalmente foi inaugurado.

A participação da maçonaria
Desde a sua criação, a Fusavi conta com
a participação direta, ativa e decisiva de
maçons rio-sulenses, das Lojas Luz do Vale
(GOSC) e Plácido Olímpio de Oliveira (GOB/
SC). Alguns deles também dirigiram e dirigem
a instituição, como o atual presidente, Irmão
Cláudio Ropelato, empresário e Obreiro da
Luz do Vale. Nestes quase três anos da gestão
do Irmão Ropelato, já foram investidos cerca
de R$ 5 milhões no hospital. Foram adquiridos equipamentos de última geração para todos os setores e feitas reformas na estrutura
física das UTIs adulto e pediátrica, no centro
cirúrgico, no setor de informática, no sistema
de elevadores e na implantação do setor de
engenharia hospitalar. O valor investido em
novos equipamentos chega aos R$ 3 milhões.
A reforma e ampliação de 13 para 20 leitos da
UTI adulto totalizaram mais de R$ 1,5 milhão.
Os investimentos em equipamentos, reformas
e ampliação das salas de informática, das voluntárias e implantação da engenharia clínica
somam mais R$ 660 mil. Com recursos próprios do hospital, recentemente foram adquiridos oito ventiladores pulmonares, que serão
usados na UTI adulto.
O Hospital Regional Alto Vale funciona num prédio com dez andares. É
uma instituição filantrópica mantida
pela Fundação de Saúde do Alto Vale do
Itajaí – Fusavi. Conta com uma equipe
de 130 médicos, 530 colaboradores e 60
voluntárias. Possui 228 leitos e atende
cerca de mil pessoas todos os meses.
95% destes atendimentos são feitos pelo
SUS. Ele é realmente um hospital regional, pois dá assistência à população de
28 cidades do Alto Vale do Itajaí em todas as complexidades médicas. Na área
de cirurgia cardíaca vai além, abrangendo pacientes de 68 municípios.
23 entidades e clubes de serviço com
direito a voto participam do conselho
curador e da assembléia da Fusavi. Esta
forte presença de representantes de todos
os segmentos da comunidade na administração do HRAV, voluntariamente, é
uma das razões do sucesso alcançado.

Assembléia Legislativa, prestigiando a cerimônia conjunta de Abertura do Ano Maçônico, dia 16 de
março.
O evento, sugerido e estimulado pelo Irmão Rubens Ricardo
Franz, foi coordenado conjuntamente com os Grão-Mestres e
Grão-Mestres Adjuntos de todas as
Obediências. O Irmão Salomão Ribas Júnior, ex-presidente do Tribunal de Contas do Estado, palestrou
sobre Crise, Ética e Sociedade,
sendo aplaudido de pé pelos presentes ao final de sua explanação.
Estiveram prestigiando o evento, além de Irmãos das três Obediências e de todas as partes do Estado, os Irmãos José Carlos Pacheco
(presidente do Tribunal de Contas
do Estado), João Eduardo Souza
Varella (presidente do Tribunal de
Justiça do Estado), Jean Kuhlmann
(deputado estadual), Gean Loureiro (presidente da Câmara de Vereadores de Florianópolis), Valdir
Cobalchini (secretário de Estado
de Coordenação e Articulação) e
Adriano Zanotto (secretário municipal de Florianópolis).
O Grão-Mestre Rubens Ricardo Franz ressalta que o sucesso
do evento solidifica ainda mais
a união entre GOSC, GOB-SC e
Grandes Lojas. União esta firmada
já nos anos 80, conforme a própria
leitura de documento conjunto
emitido pelas três Obediências
de Santa Catarina em 1985, mostrando que a união e harmonia dos
Maçons catarinenses, independente da Potência à qual pertençam,
vem de longa data. Desta forma, os
Grão-Mestres das três obediências
ratificaram os termos lidos, consolidando ainda mais a Maçonaria
Unida Catarinense.

Para o Grão-Mestre Rubens
Ricardo Franz, foi um ótimo

aumento de 16,67% no valor
do capital, com redução de
17,61% no valor pago por Irmão”. Ele ressaltou, ainda, que
“há muito a ser feito nesta área,
mas o resultado obtido é significativo face a nossa realidade
de sinistros e faixa etária dos
Obreiros”.
Prosseguem as inscrições para os concursos literário e musical
promovidos pelas Secretarias de Cultura e
de Educação do GOSC.
Os Irmãos Mestres podem inscrever até três
títulos em cada uma
das três categorias do 1o
Concurso Lindolf Bell de Literatura
Maçônica: Aprendiz, Companheiro
e Mestre. Os artigos devem ter de
duas a cinco páginas e versarem
sobre algum dos temas de estudo
de cada Grau, conforme o anexo do
regulamento. A inscrição estendese até 30 de julho.
Já o concurso para escolha do
Hino do Grande Oriente é aberto a
todos os Irmãos. Serão escolhidas
letra e melodia, para comemorar
os 60 anos da entidade. As inscrições devem ser feitas até o dia 30
de agosto. Cada participante tem o direito
de inscrever até duas
composições. As inscrições podem ser feitas
individualmente ou em
parceria, com um Irmão
compondo a letra e outro
fazendo a melodia. No
dia 12 de setembro será
feito o julgamento das composições, com apresentação ao vivo das
músicas para a comissão julgadora.
O(s) vencedor(es) receberá(ão) R$ 3
mil de premiação, além de troféu e
diploma. Os demais participantes

Contra a corrupção
Ato reúne milhares nas ruas de Florianópolis
Crianças e adolescentes de escolas de diversos municípios do
Estado participaram da mobilização
da campanha “O que você tem a ver
com a corrupção”, no dia 27 de março, em Florianópolis. O movimento,
liderado pelo Ministério Público,
tem o apoio do GOSC. Diversão,
atividades educativas, shows musicais e encenação com os atores
da Rede Globo Milton Gonçalves
e Rafael Almeida fizeram parte da
programação do evento até o final
da tarde.
Marcado inicialmente para
ocorrer no dia 9 de dezembro, Dia
Internacional de Combate à Corrupção, data instituída pela Organização das Nações Unidas (ONU),
o evento foi transferido em razão
das fortes chuvas que atingiam o
Estado ao final do ano passado.
O ator e Irmão Milton Gonçalves diz que aprendeu a importância da honestidade ainda menino,
com a mãe, que o fazia devolver até
mesmo “um toco de lápis” se ele
chegasse em casa sem poder explicar a origem do “presente”. “Eu não
gostava, claro, mas só mais tarde
aprendi como isso era importante”.
Aos 71 anos de idade, a lembrança se transformou na convicção de que o caminho para a
recuperação da sociedade passa
pela conscientização das crianças.
Foi o que o motivou a se engajar na
campanha “O que você tem a ver
com a corrupção?” e tornar-se um
de seus militantes mais entusiasmados. Impressionaram muito o

Conclamação da Maçonaria catarinense no Dia da Independência
O Grande Oriente de Santa Catarina
(GOSC) e a Muito Respeitável Grande Loja
de Santa Catarina (MRGL/SC), irmanados
ao Grande Oriente do Brasil (GOB/SC), que
formam a Maçonaria catarinense, dirigemse ao povo do nosso estado no Dia da Independência.
A Maçonaria brasileira nasceu sob a
égide dos ideais libertários, da democracia e da verdade. Neste sentido os Maçons,
além de serem guardiões destes postulados
junto à sociedade, devem crer e atuar para
que isto efetivamente ocorra. A Maçonaria
não pode e nem fica indiferente à ação política e social. Atua, dentro de seus padrões
éticos, para manter as grandes conquistas
sociais da humanidade.
A Nação lutou para a conquista de sua
liberdade, para crescermos como um país
livre e independente. Agora, em pleno início do Século XXI, lutamos contra os desmandos e a corrupção praticada por uma
minoria de maus brasileiros, os quais deveriam primar como exemplos de cidadania e
decência, priorizando o bem estar do povo

A corrupção cancerígena e o descrédito
que se instalou nos poderes da República,
com a falta de respeito à coisa pública e

Finalizando, exortamos para o brado
pela consciência dos nossos cidadãos, para

Ação externa: recuperação do porto de Itajaí
O GOSC articulou a formação de um grupo
de Irmãos para que busquem a verdade sobre a
recuperação do Porto de Itajaí. Após obter informações concretas e verdadeiras sobre o caso, o
Grande Oriente pretende se articular para agir
concretamente no sentido de auxiliar o andamento dos trabalhos.
A situação atual do porto é constrangedora,
pois em 1983, o terminal foi reconstruído em sete
meses, depois dos devastadores efeitos das en-
chentes que castigaram o Estado, especialmente
o Vale do Itajaí. Agora, passados nove meses das
últimas inundações, vivenciou-se um ‘jogo de empurra’ entre várias autoridades ligadas à obra. Finalmente os trabalhos foram retomados, mas a demora prejudica em muito a economia do Estado.
O Grão-Mestrado também está se mobilizando para cobrar do poder público obras importantes para a segurança e o bem-estar da sociedade
catarinense, como a construção do novo presídio

Jerônimo Coelho
Homenagens ao patrono da Maçonaria Catarinense
Aconteceram no dia 28 de julho, em Florianópolis, vários atos
comemorativos da passagem dos
203 anos do nascimento de Jerônimo Francisco Coelho, patrono
da Imprensa e da Maçonaria catarinenses. Esta data marca também
o Dia da Imprensa, por ter iniciado
no dia 28 de julho de 1831 a circulação do primeiro jornal do estado,
O Catharinense, criado por Coelho.
As homenagens foram organizadas em conjunto pela Maçonaria, 14ª Brigada de Infantaria Motorizada do Exército, Associação
Catarinense de Imprensa, Instituto
Histórico e Geográfico de Santa
Catarina e a Academia Catarinense de Letras. Coelho era também
militar, tendo alcançado o posto
de Brigadeiro, que atualmente corresponde à patente de General. Foi
um dos responsáveis pela criação
da Força Pública de Santa Catarina, hoje Polícia Militar.
Natural de Laguna, Coelho foi
colaborador do jornal Aurora Fluminense, do Rio de Janeiro. Quando voltou para Santa Catarina,
usou esta experiência para fundar
o primeiro jornal do Estado. Foi
também pioneiro na Maçonaria,
integrando a primeira Loja catarinense, a Concórdia, criada em
1831 em Florianópolis.
Nosso Irmão foi, ainda, fundador da Sociedade Patriótica Catarinense, tendo sido seu primeiro
presidente. A entidade tinha como
objetivos congregar homens probos e que defendiam uma independência de fato para o Brasil,
contra as investidas de Portugal,
combatendo também as oligarquias e o despotismo da época.
Mesmo com os elevados cargos que exerceu, Jerônimo Coelho morreu pobre, quase nada
deixando aos seus herdeiros. Tal
pobreza levou o historiador catarinense Almirante Henrique Boiteux a escrever: “Pobre nasceu;
de mãos limpas viveu e com elas
puras morreu. Viveu sua honradez
e probidade, uma vida sem fausto
e sem luxo; acomodava-se às suas
circunstâncias e a muitos que lhe
estranhavam aquele modo de pro-

ceder, contentava-se em dizer: A
minha pobreza é a minha riqueza”.
Estiveram presentes ao evento
o secretário de Estado do Turismo,
Esporte e Lazer, Gilmar Knaesel,
representando o Governador Luiz
Henrique da Silveira, o prefeito da
Capital, Dário Berger, o presidente do
Tribunal de Contas do Estado, Irmão
José Carlos Pacheco e os Comandantes da Polícia Militar de Santa Catarina e da 14ª Brigada do Exército. A
solenidade contou com apresentação
da Banda de Música do 63º Batalhão
de Infantaria do Exército, cujos componentes trajavam o uniforme de
meados do século 19.
O Grão-Mestre do GOSC, Rubens Ricardo Franz, discursou em
nome das três Potências Maçônicas regulares de Santa Catarina.
No seu discurso, pediu à sociedade brasileira que se mire no exemplo de Jerônimo Coelho, conclamando-a a:
1. Apoiar o livre exercício
da cidadania e a necessidade do
compromisso de todos para com
a Ética e para com a moralidade
pública.
2. Preservar as liberdades de
expressão e de imprensa.
3. Nas próximas eleições, escolher candidatos que atuem com
ética, e honestidade, sob pena de
comprometermos, de forma grave,
o futuro das próximas gerações.
4. Lutar por uma Política Tributária justa, que promova o aumento da base de contribuição,
uma melhor participação de Estados e Municípios no “bolo tributário” e a conseqüente redução da
carga tributária brasileira.
5. Trabalhar pela inclusão social, harmônica e fraterna.

Sessões conjuntas aproximam Potências regulares
S
eguindo orientação do GrãoMestrado do GOSC, nossas
Lojas têm realizado diversas Sessões
conjuntas, unindo Obreiros de diferentes Oficinas do nosso Grande
Oriente e também Irmãos do GOB e
das Grandes Lojas. Trata-se de uma
prática saudável, dentro do espírito
pregado pelos Irmãos Rubens Franz e
Alaor Tissot, de gerar mais interação
entre as diversas Oficinas do GOSC
e também unir as três Potências, que
formam “as três grandes colunas da
Maçonaria Brasileira”.
No Sul do Estado, nossos Irmãos realizaram uma sessão conjunta das Lojas Ciência e Trabalho
(Tubarão), Zezinho Cascaes (Braço do Norte), Templários da Boa
Ordem (Jaguaruna) e Energia das
Águas (Gravatal). Também estiveram presentes Obreiros de outras
potências da região e do Rio Grande do Sul. O evento aconteceu em
Tubarão no dia 24 de junho, dia de
São João, nosso padroeiro, com a
participação de dezenas de Irmãos.
Em Brusque, as Lojas Ordem
e Progresso e Brusque Deutsche
Loge, ambas jurisdicionadas ao
GOSC, participaram com as demais Lojas do GOB/SC e MRGL/
SC daquele oriente, de um Jantar
Ritualístico em comemoração ao
Solstício de Inverno, no dia 21 de
junho, às 20 horas, numa sala reservada do Clube de Caça e Tiro
Araújo Brusque. Participaram 84
Irmãos da região, independente
de Potência e Rito. O Grão-Mestre
Rubens Ricardo Franz prestigiou o
Encontro, com os Oficias do GOSC:
Mariogold Lickfeld, Tarcisio Giroleti, Carlos Krieger e Gilberto Rau.
Ainda em Brusque, a Loja Ordem
e Progresso no 25 (GOSC), realizou
no dia 06 de julho Sessão conjunta com a Loja Luz e Harmonia nº
3347, jurisdicionada ao GOB/SC,
praticante do Rito Brasileiro. A Sessão foi precedida de uma reunião
ordinária do Conselho de Mestres
Instalados das Lojas de Brusque,
uma entidade supra-potências.
O Grão-Mestre também participou do jantar ritualístico das Lojas
do GOSC da região de Blumenau,
no dia 22 de junho, marcando o
solstício de inverno. Estiveram
presentes mais de cem Irmãos das
Lojas Justiça e Trabalho, Cavaleiros
da Luz, Templários da Arca Sagrada e Artífices da Sabedoria, além
do Triângulo Templários do Vale.
No Alto Vale do Itajaí, um Jantar de Mesa foi realizado em Rio
do Sul, reunindo Obreiros de três
Lojas do GOSC: Luz do Vale, Pedra
Áurea do Vale e Ardósia do Vale,
uma do GOB/SC (Plácido Olimpio
de Oliveira) e outra das MRGL/SC
(Acácia Riosulense).
Já em Curitibanos, os Irmãos
das Lojas Cinzel, Estrela do Planalto, Luz Templária e Terceiro
Milênio, em parceria com o Capítulo DeMolay Estrela do Terceiro Milênio e Bethel Iris Manuji,
promoveram no domingo, dia 21
de junho, seu primeiro almoço de
confraternização, reunindo mais
de 500 pessoas no Centro Comunitário Frei Eliseu Tambosi. O lucro
do churrasco será revertido em
favor da beneficência. O sucesso
foi tão grande que os Veneráveis já
estão pensando em tornar o evento
anual. "O objetivo principal foi alcançado, que era aproximar a Maçonaria da comunidade e quebrar
estigmas que algumas pessoas criaram a respeito da nossa Instituição.
Com o sucesso desse almoço, para
o ano que vem, podemos abrir a
mais pessoas", comemora o Venerável Mestre José Henrique da Costa.

Senado realizou sessão especial para comemorar a passagem do Dia do Maçom, no dia 20 de agosto
Grão-Mestre fala em Sessão Especial do Senado
O
Senado Federal, a pedido
do senador Irmão Mozarildo Cavalcanti, realizou sessão
especial em comemoração ao Dia
do Maçom, no dia 20 de agosto. O
Irmão Rubens Ricardo Franz, GrãoMestre do GOSC, na condição de
vice-presidente da COMAB, foi
chamado a falar em nome desta.
Durante os discursos de senadores
e de Maçons, a ética na política e a
atual crise enfrentada pelo Senado
foram os temas mais abordados.
Diversos senadores falaram a
respeito da importância da Ordem
para a história e a atualidade brasileiras. Álvaro Dias (PSDB-PR) destacou a importância da verdade,
um dos valores básicos da Maçonaria, nesses tempos de “mentira”,
em que se discute qual autoridade
fala a verdade. O senador criticou
a atuação do Conselho de Ética,
que ele acredita estar colaborando
para consagrar a imoralidade no
país.
Cristóvam Buarque (PDT-DF)
conclamou a Maçonaria a contribuir para o surgimento de um
“novo Brasil”, um “Brasil Limpo”,
contemporâneo com o mundo
inteiro, que mude em diversos
aspectos, sobretudo na área da
educação. Segundo o senador, a
Maçonaria pode ser uma força
capaz de ajudar a tirar o Brasil do
atraso em que se encontra, como
ocorreu em outros momentos no
país.
Autor da proposta de homenagem, o Irmão Mozarildo Cavalcanti (PTB-RR) destacou a “verdade e
a tolerância” como valores da Maçonaria que poderiam ser incorporados à política brasileira. “Nossa
democracia precisa ser muito mais
permeada por essa tolerância; não
se pode dividir a sociedade entre
esquerda, direita e centro, entre
brancos, negros e índios. Precisamos ter, realmente, tolerância e saber que somos todos iguais”.
Valdir Raupp (PMDB-RO)
lembrou a presença marcante da
Maçonaria na história do país,
citando como exemplo a própria
data em que se celebra o Dia do
Maçom. Nesse dia, em 1822, uma
assembleia-geral maçônica no Rio
de Janeiro votou em favor da independência do Brasil.
Jayme Campos (DEM-MT)
disse que o maior segredo dos integrantes é desvendado nas suas
próprias ações, que é fazer desinteressadamente o bem ao próximo,
fazendo o bem à Humanidade. Romeu Tuma (PTB-SP) prestou homenagem a seu pai, que fundou lojas em São Paulo e teve “uma vida
dedicada ao relevante papel social
que a Maçonaria dirige no estado”.
O senador Efraim Morais
(DEM-PB) defendeu que o Dia do
Maçom conste do calendário cívico brasileiro. A instituição, observou ainda, introduziu padrões
éticos e morais e tem por objetivo
ampliar a cultura e a visão espiritual das pessoas. “É uma instituição que historicamente agrega
homens de saber que buscam o
bem comum”, destacou, ao explicar que a expressão mineira “uai”
tem origem na senha de acesso às
reuniões inconfidentes, iniciais
das palavras união, amor e independência.
Mão Santa (PMDB-PI) também
lembrou o papel da Maçonaria nos
mais importantes movimentos libertários do Brasil. A senadora
Rosalba Ciarlini (DEM-RN) disse
que a Maçonaria incentiva a observância de valores morais e de princípios humanistas, uma vez que,
disse ela, o ser humano é naturalmente inclinado ao bem. Cícero
Lucena (PSDB-PB) destacou a contradição entre o avanço tecnológico e as condições em que vivem as
pessoas, especialmente as menos
favorecidas economicamente.

devem priorizar em sua atividade

Já o Grão-Mestre do Grande
Oriente do Brasil (GOB), Irmão
Marcos José da Silva, sugeriu
maior participação da Maçonaria
na vida política brasileira. Em sua
opinião, todos os acontecimentos
políticos devem contar com a presença de maçons para que avaliem
e apóiem projetos que sigam os
princípios maçônicos, bem como
rejeitem as propostas contrárias
aos ideais fraternos.
Franz revela que a COMAB
discutiu muito a participação dos
Irmãos no evento, por conta dos
últimos acontecimentos no Senado. “Mas chegamos à conclusão
que mesmo em terreno árido e repleto de asperezas, o maçom tem
que fazer a sua parte. É cômodo
gritar e discursar na zona de conforto. Aliás, os maçons da história
que usamos como referencial, atuaram no ‘campo de batalha’ e não
com o pijama”, revela. Ele completa que “não é por conta da má ação
de alguns que podemos colocar em

Unidos na beneficência
As Lojas Maçônicas do Planalto Norte Catarinense (Canoinhas e
Três Barras) uniram-se num projeto
de beneficência em conjunto com
o objetivo de melhor atender as
necessidades das entidades sociais
da região. As Oficinas Liberdade e
Justiça e Fraternidade Tresbarrense
(ambas do GOSC), Estrela de Planalto e Cavaleiros de Contestato
(GOB), criaram uma Comissão de
Beneficência. Este grupo de Irmãos
está programando quatro eventos
para este ano.
A primeira promoção conjunta
das Lojas foi um Almoço Solidário,
que contou com a participação de
aproximadamente 700 pessoas. O
resultado financeiro do evento foi
destinado para duas entidades assistenciais, uma Canoinhas e outra
de Três Barras. A segunda promoção
foi uma feijoada. O empenho dos Irmãos fez com que fossem vendidas
mil porções de feijoada. O resultado
da promoção serviu para auxiliar
mais duas entidades. Outros dois
eventos já estão programados, bem
como também já foram selecionadas
as entidades a ser ajudadas.
Florianópolis
Outra sessão conjunta entre Lojas de diferentes Potências aconteceu no Oriente de Florianópolis. Reuniram-se os Irmãos das Lojas Lysis Brandão da Rocha no 104 e Fênix do Sul, ambas do GOB/
SC e a Loja Frank Shermann Land no 100, do GOSC.

Centenas de Irmãos das três Potências
Maçônicas regulares participaram da Sessão Solene da Assembleia Legislativa em
comemoração ao Dia do Maçom, no dia 30
de setembro. O Irmão Jorginho Melo homenageou as Potências regulares catarinenses,
entregando placas comemorativas para os
três Grão-Mestres presentes.

No discurso que proferiu em nome
da Ordem, o Grão-Mestre Rubens Ricardo
Franz ressaltou o compromisso da Maçonaria com a liberdade de expressão, de imprensa e de pensamento. Lamentou a censura prévia imposta ao jornal O Estado de
São Paulo pela Justiça, a pedido do presidente do Senado, José Sarney. E expressou
a indignação dos Irmãos com os ataques à
ética e à moral que têm sido assistidos pela
sociedade brasileira.
Franz criticou a inação de muitos Irmãos, dizendo que “o inconformismo nos
chega. Toma as rodas de conversas. Toma
assento nas nossas Lojas”. E exortou a sociedade a agir: “diante das revelações escabrosas apresentadas pela imprensa nacional avaliem, e pela força do vosso voto,
retirem de cena, para todo o sempre, todos
aqueles que denigrem a classe política e
envergonham o cidadão de bem e a nossa
querida Nação Brasileira”. O Grão-Mestre
do GOSC lembrou ainda das campanhas
que nosso Grande Oriente tem abraçado,
