The isolation of Trindade is the first surprise for those
who (1)
of this island lost in the Atlantic. At 1,140 km
(710mi) east of the Brazilian state of Espírito Santo and
four days
(2)
by boat, its closest neighbors are the
Martin Vaz archipelago, 32 km (26 mi) away and Britain's
Ascension Island, a distant 1,800 km (1,170 mi). Trindade
is certainly one of the most inacessible parts of Brazil (3)
, this is not its only remarkable aspect. The tiny island (8,2
sg, Km in area), discovered in 1501 by Portuguese
navigator João da Nova, is (4) by the Brazilian Navy, and
hides a kind of beauty (5) constantly competes with its
strangeness.
