Esta prova é constituída de um texto técnico-científico em língua estrangeira, seguido de 5 (cinco)
questões abertas relativas ao texto apresentado.
É permitido o uso de dicionário impresso, sendo vedados troca ou empréstimo durante a
realização do Exame.
As respostas deverão ser redigidas em português e transcritas para a Folha de Respostas, utilizando
caneta esferográfica, tinta preta ou azul, escrita grossa.
A Folha de Respostas será o único documento válido para correção, não devendo, portanto, conter
rasuras.
Será eliminado o candidato que se identificar em outro espaço além daquele reservado na
capa da Folha de Respostas e/ou redigir as respostas com lápis grafite (ou lapiseira).
Nenhum candidato poderá entregar o Caderno de Prova e a Folha de Respostas antes de
transcorridos 60 minutos do início do Exame.
Em nenhuma hipótese haverá substituição da Folha de Respostas.
Ao encerrar a prova, o candidato entregará, obrigatoriamente, ao fiscal da sala, o Caderno de
Prova e a Folha de Respostas devidamente assinada no espaço reservado para esse fim.

Preschoolers in Surgery for a Mouthful of Cavities

SEATTLE — In the surgical wing of the Center for Pediatric Dentistry at Seattle Children’s Hospital, Devon
Koester, 2 ½ years old, was resting last month in his mother’s arms as an anesthesiologist held a bubblegum-scented mask over his face to put him under. The doctors then took X-rays, which showed that 11 of
his 20 baby teeth had cavities. Then his pediatric dentist extracted two incisors, performed a root canal on a
molar, and gave the rest fillings and crowns.
Dentists’ Tips for Healthy Baby Teeth
Dentists suggest a number of tips for parents to prevent the decay of baby teeth:
1- Take an infant to a dentist before the first birthday for an assessment of cavity risk, even if the child has
only a few teeth;
2- In general, brush the teeth of children 2 or younger with a bit of fluoride toothpaste twice a day. At 2, start
to use a pea-size dollop;
3- Reduce snacking. Eating any starchy or sugary food causes the pH level in the mouth to drop sharply,
leaving teeth awash in an acid bath — murder on enamel — for 20 minutes until saliva normalizes the pH.
The frequency of exposure to acid is more important than the sugar content of food;
4- Do not share utensils with a child or “clean” a pacifier in your mouth, then give it to your infant.
Devon’s mother, Melody Koester, a homemaker from Stanwood, Wash., and her husband, Matthew, an
information technology manager, said they began worrying about brushing Devon’s teeth only after Mrs.
Koester noticed they were discolored when he was 18 months old. “I had a lot on my mind, and brushing
his teeth was an extra thing I didn’t think about at night,” she said.
Brushing teeth twice a day used to be nonnegotiable, she said, but not anymore. “Some parents say: ‘He
doesn’t want his teeth brushed. We’ll wait until he’s more emotionally mature.’ It’s baffling,” she added.
