CARLOS GASPAR
Carlos Gaspar é membro da Direcção do Instituto Português de Relações Internacionais da
Universidade Nova de Lisboa e Assessor do Conselho de Administração da Fundação Oriente. É
docente convidado de Relações Internacionais na Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas da
Universidade Nova de Lisboa e Investigador do Instituto de Defesa Nacional. É, também,
conferencista no Instituto de Estudos Políticos da Universidade Católica Portuguesa e no
Instituto de Estudos Superiores Militares. Director da Revista Relações Internacionais, membro
do conselho de redacção das Revistas Nação e Defesa, Finisterra e Respublica. Antigo
Conselheiro do Presidente Ramalho Eanes (1977-1986), do Presidente Mário Soares (19861996) e do Presidente Jorge Sampaio (1996-2006). É membro do European China Research and
Academic Network e do LSE Ideas África International Affairs Program. Estudou Direito e
História na Universidade de Lisboa e Ciência Política no Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris,
onde obteve o DEA de Ciência Política e Relações Internacionais.

Carlos Gaspar is member of the board of the Portuguese Institute of International RelationsNOVA University of Lisbon and Advisor to the Board of Directors of Fundação Oriente. He is also
Visiting Lecturer of International Relations at the School of Social and Human Sciences of the
NOVA University of Lisbon and researcher at the Institute of National Defense. He has been a
lecturer at the Institute of Political Studies of the Catholic University and the Institute of
Advanced Military Studies. Gaspar is member of the editorial board of the journals Nação e
Defesa, Finisterra and Respublica. He was Counselor to President Ramalho Eanes (1977-1986),
President Mário Soares (1986-1996) and President Jorge Sampaio (1996-2006). He is a member
of the China European Research and Academic Network and of the LSE Ideas Africa
International Affairs Program. Carlos Gaspar studied law and history at the University of Lisbon
and Political Science at the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris, where he obtained a DEA in
Political Science and International Relations.
