São Martinho group gets stronger and invests in the
Construction of its third unit
The Group, one of the most important in the sugar-alcohol sector in Brazil, is comprised of mills
Iracema, in Iracemápolis, and São Martinho, in Pradópolis,
and it will have an unit in Goiás until 2008.
São Martinho Group announced this year to the market the construction of its third producing
unit, called Usina Boa Vista, whose works are being started in the city of Quirinópolis, in Goiás.
This unit should start operating in 2008, when 1 million tonnes of sugarcane will be processed,
and it is expected to grind 3 million tones of sugarcane in 2010, initially focusing only on the
alcohol production.
Usina Iracema, operating for 70 years, is the oldest company of the Group and it is located in
Iracemápolis. In 2006, the mill ground 2.54 million tonnes of sugarcane and produced 3.56
million 50-kilogram sacks of sugar and 107 million liters of alcohol. The company has 1,944
fixed employees and harvested, in 2006, 66% of its own sugarcane in an automated process
without burning it.
Usina São Martinho, of Pradópolis, has ground in this crop 6.73 million tonnes of sugarcane,
which makes this unit one of the largest of Brazil and of the world. Founded in 1948, the mill is
also one of the most modern of the country, with stateof- the-art processes in the industrial and
agricultural areas. With 4 thousand employees, São Martinho crops almost 90% of its
sugarcane with machines and without burning, besides having an Environmental Education
Center that admits thousands of students every year.
The concept of a business group has increased in the past years and helped to strengthen its
activities. With a professional management, São Martinho Group is always searching for an
increasingly competitiveness in the markets where it operates.
