Ex: -HER parents live in London. -I don’t know where YOUR book is. Seguidos de OWN mais substantivos. Ex: -We have OUR own ideas. -They brought THEIR own dictionaries. Pronomes Possessivos Substituindo a construção adjetivo possessivo + substantivo, para evitar repetições. Ex: -Pedro likes his books. Did you like yours? -Your clothes are new, different mine. Genetive case O genetive case é usado quando quisermos estabelecer uma relação de posse, parentesco, autoria, etc. É representado pelos sinais: ‘s ou ‘ (apóstrofe) ATENÇÃO: Só pessoas ou animais recebem ‘s ou ‘, nunca um objeto. Recebem ‘s: Substantivos singulares, terminados ou não em s. Ex: -The mother of Helen. – Helen’s mother. -The cap oh the boy. – The boy’s cap. Substantivos plurais, NÃO terminaodos em s. Ex: -The toys of the children – The children’s toys. -The jewels oh the women – The women’s jewels. Recebem apenas ( ‘) : Substantivos plurais terminados em s. Ex: -The uniforms of the girls. – The girls’ uniforms. -The stables of the horses. – The horses’ stables. Nomes clássicos, famosos, terminados em s. Ex: -The words of Jesus. – Jesus’ words. -The thoughts of Socratres. – The Socrates’ thoughts. Observações: Pode –se omitir os substantivos shop, office, house church and cathedral na relação genitiva. Ex: - My mother went to the hairdesser ‘ s. (shop) Quando houver dois ou mais possuidores para um elemento só, apenas o ultimo possuidor recebe ‘s ou (‘). Ex: - The father oh Henry and Paul. – Henry and Paul’s father. Quando houver dois ou mais possuidores para mais elementos possuídos diferentes, todos os possuidores recebem ‘s ou (‘). Ex: - The fatherS of Henry and Paul. – Henry’s and Paul’s fatherS. Quando nos referimos, mais de uma vez, na mesma sequência, a um só elemento possuído, este pode ser omitido na segunda vez, substituido por ‘s ou (‘). Ex: -He puts his HAND on his girlfriend’s. Substantivos compostos recebem ‘s no ultimo elemento.Ex: -The farm of my father-in-law. – My father-in-law’s farm. Usamos o genitive case em expressões de tempo, medida e quantidade. Ex: -A week’s holiday. (um feriado de uma semana) -A month’s wage. (salário de um mês) Podemso usar o genitive case se o possuidor for o governo, um lugar ou uma organização. Ex: -The government’s intention. -Brazil’s inhabitants. O genitive case é usado em certas expressões idioáticas. Ex: - For God’s sake. (Pelo amor de Deus) FIM!
