ForTAIPA | ‘Criteria for Conservation Intervention in Rammed Earth Fortresses’ | FCT 2015 (Área cientifica: Ambiente, Território e População – Arquitectura) Consultant Brief Curriculum in English: Fernando Vegas The Architect Fernando Vegas is author of several conservation interventions in traditional and historic buildings, as well as in Spanish Monuments. He has been recently nominated by the Spanish Ministry, as construction director and consultant for specific intervention and conservation actions. He was member of the Expert Committee for the elaboration of the National Plan for Traditional Architecture of the Spanish Institute of Cultural Heritage (IPCE) of the Ministry of Culture and he is presently member of the development Commission of the National Plan for Traditional Architecture of the Spanish Institute of Cultural Heritage (IPCE) of the Ministry of Culture. His intervention at the Torre Bofila, in Bétera, was recently distinguished with the Prize Domus Restauro e Conservazione 2012, the Honorable Mention Europa Nostra 2013, and the Label of Outstanding Earthen Architecture in Europe ‐ Unión Europea. Concerning technical intervention in heritage, he is also author and editor of publications such as: “Aprendiendo a restaurar. Un manual de restauración de la arquitectura de la Comunidad Valenciana” (2011); “Lazos de alarife. Manual sobre técnicas y materiales tradicionales en Málaga y el Norte de Marruecos para la recuperación de su patrimonio común” (2013); and more recently the book “La restauración de la tapia en la península ibérica. Criterios, técnicas, resultados, perspectivas” (2014). He is graduated by the UPV ‐ Universitat Politècnica de València (1990), the same institution where he held his PhD Degree in architecture (2000). He is a permanent professor at the Department of Architectural Composition of UPV since 1998, member of the Academic Commission of the Master in Conservation of Architectural Heritage and the responsible for its international exchange program. Besides the Universidad Politecnica de Valencia, he frequently integrates Master and PhD programmes at the Universidad de Valencia (Spain), Universidad de Venecia (Italia), Universidad de Córdoba (Argentina), Universidad de Tirana (Albania), among other Master’s.
