inglês os adjetivos e os
advérbios podem aparecer
nos graus normal,
comparativo e superlativo.
COMPARATIVO
1) COMPARATIVO
DE IGUALDADE:
AS( tão) + ADJETIVO/ADVÉRBIO
+ AS(quanto) (em frases
afirmativas)
Ex.:
Jane is as tall as Mary.
My sister is as smart as Carol.
He sings as bad as John.
NOT AS/SO +
ADJETIVO/ADVÉRBIO + AS
(emfrases negativas)
Ex.:
Jane isn't so (as) tall as Mary.
He doesn't sing so (as) bad as John.
2) COMPARATIVO DE
INFERIORIDADE:
LESS (menos) +
ADJETIVO/ADVÉRBIO +
THAN (do que)

Ex.:
Jane is less tall than Mary.
Carol is less intelligent than her sister.
3) COMPARATIVO DE
SUPERIORIDADE
a) adjetivos ou advérbios com mais de
uma sílaba:
MORE + ADJETIVO + THAN
Ex.:
Brooke is more beautiful than Michele.
Steves is more intelligent than Ann
b) adjetivos e advérbios com uma só
sílaba:
ADJETIVO + ER/IER-Y + THAN
Ex.:
John is smaller than Peter.
Steves is funnier than Ann.
4) SUPERLATIVO DE
INFERIORIDADE:
THE LEAST + ADJETIVO
a) adjetivos ou advérbios com
mais de uma sílaba:
THE + MOST + ADJETIVO
Ex.:
Carol is the most beautiful of the
school.
Sylvia is the most intelligent girl I know.
b) adjetivos e advérbios com
uma só sílaba:
THE + ADJETIVO + EST/IEST-Y

Ex.:
Carol is the youngest of her classroom.
5) CASOS IRREGULARES:
Alguns casos fogem à regra, pois
modificam
por completo o seu radical.
Estes devem ser memorizados.

NOTE:

1. Palavras terminadas em consoantes /
vogal/
consoante dobram a última consoante
antes de receber -er ou -est.

Ex.:
hot - hotter - the hottest
big - bigger - the biggest

2. Palavras terminadas em -e recebem apenas
-r e -st.
Ex.:
large - larger - the largest
wide - wider - the widest

3. Palavras terminadas em -y precedido de
consoante trocam o -y por -i ao receber er e -est.
Ex.:
happy - happier - the happiest
ugly - uglier - the ugliest
