Nós, ativistas de direitos humanos, reunidos em São Paulo durante o XIII Colóquio Internacional de Direitos Humanos, somos solidários às manifestações que vem ocorrendo no Brasil. Infelizmente, aqui e em muitas outras partes do mundo temos visto repressão brutal aos manifestantes. São os protestos que mantêm a democracia viva. Em nenhuma circunstância fatos isolados de violência podem justificar a repressão das manifestações populares. Entendendo que a criminalização dos protestos viola direitos fundamentais para o exercício da cidadania e da democracia, nós: 1. Repudiamos a repressão brutal e desmedida e as detenções arbitrárias e exigimos o aumento da proteção dos direitos humanos nas manifestações; 2. Denunciamos o uso irresponsável das chamadas armas “menos letais”, bem como o uso de armas letais, e exigimos a regulação do uso de tais armas, pois ambas causam danos irreparáveis; 3. Exigimos a libertação dos manifestantes detidos; 4. Urgimos a investigação e responsabilização não só dos agentes que reprimem as manifestações, mas também dos atores políticos que comandam essas operações, tendo em vista a necessidade de vigilância em relação à imposição de limitações legais e burocráticas ao direito à manifestação. Continuaremos nas ruas. As ruas são nosso lugar! We, activists of human rights meeting in São Paulo, during the XIII International Colloquium of Human Rights, give our solidarity to the protesters in Brazil. Unfortunately, here in other parts over the world we’ve seen brutal repression against the protesters. Protesting is what maintains democracy alive. In any circumstance isolated facts could justify the repression to popular manifestations. Understanding that criminalization of protests violates fundamental rights to the exercise of citizenship and of democracy, we: 1. Reject brutal and unmeasured repression and arbitrary detentions and demand the increasing precision and clarity regarding the scope of the protection of human rights in manifestations; 2. Denounce the irresponsible use of the “less lethal weapons” as well as letal weapons and demand the regulation of the using of these weapons, because it causes irrecoverable damages; 3. Demand the liberation of protestors arbitrarily arrested; 4. Urge the investigation and charging not only the public agents that repress manifestations but also the political actors that command that operations, in view of the necessity of awaking to imposition of legal and administrative limitations on the right to protest.
