Biografia
“The one who hears from childhood, learns to believe the wind blows
the destiny by the sea paths…” so it sang us master Dorival Caymmi.
It was one of those winds, which make fisherman dying of fear
and desire to find the sea queen, that took me next to a shoal of
mermaids, in the sea where the Brazilian sun rises: the city of João
Pessoa, capital of the state of Paraíba.
That’s where I bring the story of this collection. The female fury
on the braiding of the fishing line, in crocheting the hair, on
embroidering threads and beads. The mermaids magic in turning
camurupim fish scales that were before discarded in the garbage,
into jewelry and embroidery. The fury of mermaids with the pollution
of the seas, turned into the first biodegradable thread in the world,
the Amni Soul Eco produced by Rhodia, which in its formulation
allows clothes made from this thread to rapidly decompose after
being discarded in landfill, here transformed into modern and
comfortable mesh by Santaconstancia. The fury of the mermaids
in the latest jacquard bases produced by Innovativ. The mermaids
colors in maquinetado cotton bases of RenauxView.
Odoiá, Janaína and Iemanjá are some of the sea queen names, here
are also called Tereza, Maria, Selene, Agnes, Dorinha, Adriana,
Vitoria, Fátima, Mônica.... these are indeed real mermaids! They can
have any physical type and any skin tone and in times that ageing is
almost a sin, they are beautiful and seductive at any age.
