Stations of the Cross
Tuesday, April 15│ 7:00pm
On the Tuesday of Holy Week, April 15th, our Confirmation candidates invite the entire parish
community to participate in the Stations of the Cross. The students will present a prayerful reflection on the passion and death of Jesus Christ on his walk to Calvary. The presentation of the
Stations of the Cross will follow the 6:30pm Mass and begin at 7:00pm.

A Semana Santa é o tempo realmente perfeito para reflectir no extremamente generoso amor que Deus nos concedeu através
da Paixão do Seu Filho. É a ocasião perfeita para elevar o nosso agradecimento a Deus especialmente através das celebrações
eucarísticas. É uma maneira perfeita de dar graças e também os serviços disponíveis para nos reunirmos juntamente em
oração. Quinta-Feira Santa celebramos a Missa da Ceia do Senhor às 7:00pm. Na Sexta-Feira Santa, “A Via Sacra” será celebrada às 3:00pm. O serviço de Sexta-Feira Santa começa depois da procissão do “Enterro.” A Sexta Feira é o único dia que a
Missa não é celebrada.
Tecnicamente também não é celebrada no Sábado Santo, por ser a celebração da Vigília que realmente começa depois do sol
pôr e é já considerado parte do próximo dia. No Sábado à noite é a celebração da Mãe de todas as Vigílias, é a Vigília
Pascal. Como é admirável entrar na Igreja em escuridão completa. A Vigília começa com o acender do Círio Pascal. Ao
cantar o Exsultet é cantado com toda a congregação com as velas acesas ao lembrar o nosso Baptismo e a morte de Cristo
para que possamos morrer e ressuscitar com ele na ressurreição. A Vigília Pascal começa às 8:30 p.m. O resto do horário
continua a ser o habitual no Domingo da Páscoa às 8:00am, 9:45am, 11:30am e 7:00pm.

Greetings,
Holy Week is such a perfect time to reflect on the exceedingly generous love that God lavishes on us through the Passion of
His Son. It is the perfect time to bring our thanks to God especially through the Eucharistic celebrations, which are our perfect way to give thanks. On Holy Thursday we celebrate the Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7:00pm. On Good Friday “The
Way of the Cross” will be prayed at 3:00pm on Friday. The Good Friday service will begin following the procession of the
“Enterro” at 7:00pm. Good Friday is the only day that the Mass is not celebrated.
Technically it is not celebrated on Holy Saturday either, as the celebration of the Vigil begins after sunset it is considered part
of the next day. The Easter Vigil, the Mother of All Vigils is celebrated on Saturday evening. How awesome it is to enter the
church in complete darkness. The Vigil begins with the Blessing of the fire and the illumination of the Paschal Candle. As
the “Exsultet” is sung all in the congregation have their candles lighted as we recall our Baptism into the death of Christ that
we might also rise with him in the Resurrection. It truly is a Sacred Time. The Easter Vigil will begin at 8:30 p.m. The
rest of the schedule remains as usual for Easter Sunday at 8:00am, 9:45am, 11:30am and 7:00pm.

Meet Fr. Art.
Bringing Christ’s Presence to the Frontlines
A native of Brookline, Fr.
Arthur “Art” Calter grew
up as the youngest of five
children. Following the
example of his two older
brothers who became
priests, Fr. Calter entered
St. John’s Seminary in
1951. Upon his ordination,
Fr. Calter poured himself
into ministry at parishes in
Marlborough, Salem, Needham, and Braintree. With the
war in Vietnam gaining momentum, Fr. Calter was struck
that so many young men in his parishes were being
drafted. Moved by the desire to bring the presence of
Christ to the trenches, Fr. Calter became a Chaplain in
the U.S. Army. He served two tours of duty embedded
with infantrymen and marines in the jungle where he
would celebrate up to twelve Masses in one day.
Fr. Calter’s time in Vietnam prepared him for a different
kind of battle back at home—his next assignment in
South Boston where he served as pastor of St. Augustine
Parish during the height of the busing crisis. In a career
spanning more than five decades, Fr. Calter has been a
pastor at five parishes and has worked with thousands
of families and individuals. He currently resides at Regina
Cleri, a retirement home for senior priests in Boston, where
53 residents represent 1.2 million days of priesthood.
