Diogo de Lucena Trustee Born March 8, 1949, in Lisbon, Portugal, he is an Electrical Engineer by Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (1972) and obtained a Master of Science (1976) and a Ph.D. (1978) in Engineering Economic Systems by Stanford University. His academic career began at the Instituto Superior Técnico and later on he joined the Faculdade de Economia, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, where he is now a Professor of Economics. He has also been Visiting Professor at Stanford University. He is the author of several publications and participated in many Conferences and Seminars, in Portugal and abroad. His main areas of interest were initially the Economics of Uncertainty and Information and the Economics of Telecommunications. Later, he worked in the Economics of the Welfare State, namely in the financing of the Social Security, Health and Education. At Faculdade de Economia of Universidade Nova de Lisboa, he was member of the Comissão Instaladora, Dean for Students Affairs, Director of MBA Programme, Academic Dean and Director. He was also member of Comissão Instaladora of the Faculty of Law and Vice-Rector of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. He has been a consultant for private and public institutions and organisations, such as: Banco Fonsecas & Burnay, Citibank, MDM, CTT/TLP, Marconi, EPAL, Associação Portuguesa de Casinos, Instituto de Comunicações de Portugal, Empresa Geral de Fomento, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Ford Foundation, Ministries of Finance, Economy, Employment and Welfare, Prime-Minister. He is former member of the Board at Banco Mello, COVINA and Galeno Participações, President of the Board at Easysoft/Audaxys, President of the Fiscal Board at RUMOS and former Chairman of the General Meeting at EDP. He took part in several Advisory Boards, namely at IMPÉRIO, José de Mello Saúde, UIF-International Finance Union, Reditus, FLAD - Portuguese-American Foundation for Development, Instituto de Gestão de Fundos de Capitalização da Segurança Social (Portuguese Institute for Welfare Funds Management) and at Portugal Telecom. He was Trustee at Aljubarrota Foundation, member of the Scientific Advisory Board at Merck Sharp & Dhome Foundation and member of the General Board and co-founder of the Portuguese Institute for Corporate Governance. He is member of the Advisory Board of the Portuguese newspaper Público. Member of Jury of Pessoa Prize (since 2002) and of A. Sedas Nunes - Social Sciences Prize (2007). In 2007 he has been elected Corresponding Member of the Academia das Ciências de Lisboa (Academy of Sciences of Lisbon). He is Trustee of Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, since January/1999.
