Strong synergies in the Aerospace sector for competitiveness [2007-2013]
Setting the scenario for competitiveness of Space players, together with
Aeronautics and Clean Sky programs :
 60 Portuguese entities from the aerospace sector are participating in
FP7 Space, aeronautics or Clean Sky projects
 25% of those are participating in more than 2 of these programs
 DANOTEC (Defense), PEMAS (Aeronautics) and PROESPAÇO (Space) are
now federating in a common association AED (Aeronáutica, Espaço e
Defesa) to generate critical mass and international impact
(representing 60 entities, 15000 jobs and 1.5b€ annual turnover)
 Copernicus, Galileo, SST, Space, Clean Sky, Aeronautics are all funding
mechanisms to help explore this potential and dual use of the
Aerospace sector

 FP7 SPACE showed the best performance in Portugal (2% budget return).
 Low performance in Aeronautics (0,8%) and Clean Sky (0,9%), show there
is lot of potential for space players in these programmes
 So far only 3 space players won projects in the 3 themes (ACTIVE SPACE,
GMVIS and INEGI)
 10 players won 2 projects in 2 themes (CRITICAL MATERIALS, CRITICAL
SOFTWARE, DEIMOS, EDISOFT, FCT, FFCUL, INESC ID, IST, ISQ, TEKEVER)
 Industry largely leads in total # participations for the three programs (78)
 Academia leads space participations (48)
 Public entities are not active in aeronautics, only in space (11)
 SMEs are more capable of wining FP7 programs and coordinations
